Chapter 345: Chapter 345: Ulterior Motive

Officer Li jotted it down. "Alright, I’ll report this back and try to get it finalized as soon as possible."

Regardless, just getting Han Xiaorui’s agreement was a success for them.

Han Xiaorui nodded. "Actually, many dogs are suitable for police training. Big dogs have their advantages, and small dogs have theirs. They can be trained for different situations."

"Our own local Hua Country dogs are great, for instance. There’s no need to exclusively pursue foreign breeds. This would reduce the initial investment, and all that matters is that they’re effective."

Officer Li smiled. "What kind of dog is a ’local Hua Country dog’?"

Han Xiaorui pointed to Dahuang and Heizi, who were lying in the yard. "They’re the native dogs of our Hua Country. They’re low-maintenance and quite good-looking, too."

Officer Li nodded. "You’re right. The things our ancestors left us over thousands of years are all good. Foreign dogs are high-maintenance; they need to eat meat. Even I don’t get to eat meat every day!"

Ye Feng shook his head and chuckled. "You’re getting off-topic. Go back and discuss it amongst yourselves, but whatever you do, don’t do it here at the house. Even though we clean every day, there’s still a smell."

Officer Li gave an embarrassed smile. "Sorry for the trouble. We promise we’ll finalize things as quickly as possible."

After Officer Li left, Ye Feng chuckled softly. "Besides feeling like you have nothing to do during the fishing ban, do you have another reason for starting a police dog breeding base?"

Han Xiaorui nodded. "Yes, of course I do. You’ve seen Pingping and An’an. Their learning ability might not even match that of an average child, but their ability to communicate with animals is incredible."

"Whether it’s with Dahuang and Heizi here at home or those twenty police dogs from before, Pingping and An’an get along wonderfully with them. They even assigned them numbers."

"Some of the dogs look almost identical, but the girls can tell them apart. They have a natural affinity for dogs, and the dogs love Pingping and An’an, too."

"Since they have this talent, I think it should be nurtured from a young age. In the future, even if my Pingping and An’an don’t grow up to be exceptionally smart children, even if they can’t become scientists or doctors, I think they would have no problem becoming police dog handlers."

Ye Feng was taken aback. He hadn’t realized Han Xiaorui was already thinking about Pingping and An’an’s careers when they grew up.

"Honestly, with our financial resources, we can ensure Pingping and An’an live a comfortable life. You really don’t have to worry so much."

Han Xiaorui shook her head in disagreement. "We can leave them money, but money can only guarantee they’ll want for nothing. Having a job they love, one that gives them a sense of accomplishment—that’s what’s most important."

"No one can guarantee we’ll be wealthy our whole lives, but a marketable skill and a steady job can. Besides, having a job gives them a sense of belonging and achievement. That’s something money can’t buy."

"Also, I worry they might not have the ability to manage a large fortune, so having a simple environment and a respectable job would offer Pingping and An’an an extra layer of protection."

Ye Feng smiled, his tone full of emotion. "I finally understand that old saying from my school days: ’Parents who love their children must make far-sighted plans for them.’ It’s absolutely true!"

Han Xiaorui nodded. "Exactly. A fulfilling job is far more important than money. And the key is that Pingping and An’an enjoy it. That’s the most precious thing of all."

Ye Feng thought Han Xiaorui was a wonderful mother. To give Pingping and An’an a good environment for their recovery, she opened a kindergarten and integrated their intervention therapy into its curriculum.

According to Expert Wang’s personal assessment, this approach was far more effective than intervention therapy in a hospital setting alone.

Other parents, even if they couldn’t afford to open their own kindergarten, found that having their children receive special attention from teachers at a kindergarten in the morning, followed by intervention therapy at the hospital in the afternoon, also yielded great results.

This was a major discovery.

Han Xiaorui planned to increase her investment in this area, either by providing funding or finding other ways to help more children like them in the future.

To ensure Pingping and An’an could enroll in school smoothly, she had rebuilt the Jinshan Bay primary and middle schools and even had plans for a future high school.

And now, Han Xiaorui was already considering her children’s future careers, even though Pingping and An’an were only four years old.

"That’s wonderful. I support you completely," Ye Feng said with a smile. "Are you tired? Hungry?"

Han Xiaorui shook her head. "Not tired or hungry. Pingping and An’an are about to finish school. Let’s go pick them up."

"Alright!" Ye Feng agreed.

Pingping and An’an were delighted to see both their mom and dad had come to pick them up.

Ye Feng noticed a car parked at their gate. "Who’s here?"

Han Xiaorui shook her head. "I have no idea!"

But just as the words left her mouth, someone got out of the car.

"Kuno Hiroo? What’s he doing here again?" Han Xiaorui asked, her eyes filled with suspicion. "Didn’t we already give him all the ornamental fish he wanted?"

Ye Feng shook his head. "I don’t know either. I haven’t been working with him recently!"

Just then, Kuno Hiroo spotted Han Xiaorui and Ye Feng. He quickly grabbed a gift from his car and handed it to Pingping and An’an.

It was a doll that was extremely unpopular in Japan. "Hello, Pingping and An’an."

"Hello, Uncle Kuno," Pingping and An’an greeted him politely.

They knew him because Kuno Hiroo visited often.

Han Xiaorui asked, "Mr. Kuno, is there something you need?"

"Can’t I come visit an old friend?" Kuno Hiroo retorted, looking perfectly calm and composed.

Han Xiaorui and Ye Feng exchanged a look and both rolled their eyes.

Kuno Hiroo was the quintessential businessman. Sometimes, Han Xiaorui got the feeling that his business dealings transcended national borders.

If the profit was large enough to entice him, he would sell anything—he might even sell his own soul.

’For a man like that, time is precious. Everything he does has a purpose. How could he possibly be here just to visit an old friend?’

"We’re having braised noodles for dinner. Would you like to try some?" Han Xiaorui asked. If Kuno Hiroo wasn’t interested, he could take that as his cue to leave.

Kuno Hiroo nodded and said with a smile, "Although I’ve never had it, I’m willing to give it a try."

Inside the house, Han Xiaorui brewed them some tea, and they all took their seats.

"Wu Jiao, please make an extra portion of the braised noodles. Kuno Hiroo is staying for dinner!" Han Xiaorui instructed.

Wu Jiao smiled and nodded. "Alright!"

After they were all seated, Kuno Hiroo took a sip of his Pre-Qingming Longjing tea, leisurely waiting for Han Xiaorui to question him.

However, Han Xiaorui and Ye Feng were very patient. They started discussing this year’s tea harvest instead.

In the end, it was Kuno Hiroo who couldn’t sit still any longer. "Aren’t you curious about the purpose of my visit?"

Han Xiaorui retorted, "Didn’t you say you were here to visit an old friend? Are you saying that’s not it?"

Kuno Hiroo chuckled. "Of course, I came to see a friend. But naturally, I also have a small request."

Ye Feng glanced at Kuno Hiroo. "If it’s something you have to be so secretive about, it must be difficult to handle. You might as well not say it."
