Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Talk Less, Do More

Liang Xiaoyu was genuinely happy for Han Xiaorui that Ye Feng was being so proactive.

Not only had he bought the tickets, but he’d also personally escorted them to the station. It was clear his feelings for her were changing.

A good woman like Han Xiaorui deserved to be with a good man. After what she went through with that bastard Yang Jianming, it wasn’t easy for her to get back on her feet.

Granny Cai’s eyes darted about as she grinned from ear to ear.

She finally understood why her daughter-in-law had asked her apprentice, Xiao Chen, to inquire about Ye Feng—it was for Han Xiaorui.

’Excellent!’

Granny Cai reflected that women really should look out for themselves more.

Wu Cuicui mused that while she knew Han Xiaorui, being so pretty and young, would eventually start a new life, she hadn’t expected it to happen so quickly.

Yang Jianguo’s heart ached, and he now understood his second uncle’s sorrow. His younger cousin had no idea how to cherish such a wonderful wife.

Returning home that evening, Yang Jianguo sat in the courtyard, silently smoking.

After putting their daughter to sleep, Wu Cuicui brought a stool over and sat beside Yang Jianguo. "Jianguo, don’t feel so bad for Second Uncle. Jianming and Zhang Lili have already registered their marriage, and their baby is due any day now. You can’t expect Xiao Rui to stay single forever, living only for her children. That’s not how things work in this new society."

Yang Jianguo stubbed out his cigarette with a sigh. "I’m just heartbroken that my cousin is such a good-for-nothing, the damn fool. He had such a wonderful wife and just threw her away. He has a good father, too, but he doesn’t even know how to be a filial son."

"Heaven is watching what we do. He’s already thrown away the greatest blessing of his life. He won’t come to a good end."

Hearing this, Wu Cuicui was filled with emotion. "To be honest, that Ye Feng is better than Jianming in every way, from his looks to the way he handles things."

"Xiao Rui was blind once, but this time, her eyes are wide open. In the beginning, we got close to Xiao Rui because of Pingping and An’an. But look at her now. The way she’s handled things since the divorce... it’s been nothing short of brilliant!"

"From now on, let’s treat Xiao Rui as a friend, not just as family. After all, people have feelings, and Xiao Rui has been so good to me and to our Minmin."

Yang Jianguo nodded. "You’re right. It’s not as appropriate for me since I’m a man. You should take Minmin to visit them more often when you’re free."

"Okay!" Wu Cuicui agreed, leaning against her husband as they looked up at the starry sky together.

One must cherish their blessings.

Everyone is allotted a finite amount of good fortune.

Once you’ve squandered it, it’s gone for good!

Ye Feng took Han Xiaorui and her group of four to the train station. He showed his identification and escorted them right onto the train.

Both tickets were for soft sleeper berths, and both were bottom bunks!

With Han Xiaorui and Han Xiaoqing each taking one of the girls, they could all sleep comfortably. It was very convenient.

"Don’t show off any valuables on the trip. Keep a close eye on the children, especially when people are getting on and off at the stations. Keep your luggage under the bunks so it’s easy to get to."

"When you arrive at Guishi station, go to the ticket office and find a man named Wang Qiang. He’ll have a car arranged to take you home."

"On your way back, just give him a call. He’ll buy your tickets and arrange a time to pick you up."

Ye Feng explained quietly, handing Han Xiaorui a slip of paper with Wang Qiang’s phone number on it.

Ye Feng was interested in Han Xiaorui. He had never said a word about it, but he was quietly doing so much for her behind the scenes.

"Thank you, Ye Feng." For the first time, Han Xiaorui dropped the formality and called him by his full name.

Ye Feng lowered his gaze and smiled at Han Xiaorui. "Xiao Rui, have a safe journey."

"Okay!" Han Xiaorui smiled, nodded, and waved to Ye Feng.

Ye Feng disembarked but remained standing on the station platform, not leaving.

He was speaking with a member of the railway staff, his eyes drifting toward Han Xiaorui from time to time.

Then, the train’s whistle blew, and it began to lurch into motion, slowly picking up speed.

Han Xiaorui looked out at Ye Feng on the platform. "Ye Feng, goodbye! And... thank you."

"You’re welcome!" Ye Feng smiled, his usual stern, rigid expression replaced by a joyful glint in his eyes.

Han Xiaorui watched his tall figure shrink in the distance as the train pulled away. Though they were getting farther and farther apart, she was certain he was still on the platform, watching her.

After a long moment, Han Xiaorui finally pulled her gaze away and sat down on her bunk.

Han Xiaoqing kept her two nieces occupied, careful not to disturb her sister.

’Her sister is always so busy and tired. She should have some time to herself now to think about her own affairs.’

Pingping took out a piece of malt candy and held it out to Han Xiaorui. "Mama, eat."

Han Xiaorui opened her mouth and ate the candy, then began to ask pointedly, "Pingping, An’an, who bought this malt candy for you?"

Pingping grinned. "It was... Uncle."

"Uncle Ye," An’an chimed in. Her verbal skills were still developing, but her memory was excellent.

They could remember things after hearing them just once or twice.

This was an excellent sign.

Having witnessed Ye Feng’s actions, Han Xiaoqing now deliberately asked in front of Pingping and An’an, "Do you like Uncle Ye?"

"We do!" the two children giggled. ’Uncle Ye smiles at us, gives us yummy treats, and Mama lets us talk to him, so of course we like him.’

Han Xiaorui pursed her lips in a soft smile. "It’s still way too early. Don’t rush things."

"I’m not the one rushing, I’m worried you are," Han Xiaoqing laughed. "Mr. Ye doesn’t say much, but he certainly does a lot."

"That’s true," Han Xiaorui nodded. "That’s one of the reasons I have a good impression of him."

The train picked up speed. Pingping and An’an pressed their faces to the window, watching the world rush by. "Building! Tree! Green! Tall! Short..." they chanted, naming everything they saw.

These were all concepts they had learned recently, and their cognitive skills had improved immensely.

The soft sleeper compartment had four bunks, an upper and a lower on each side.

The other two bunks in their compartment were empty for now, so they didn’t have to worry about disturbing anyone.

About fifteen minutes after departure, the train attendant who had been chatting with Ye Feng on the platform came over, carrying a thermos of hot water he had just fetched.

"Comrade Xiao Han, I brought you some hot water. Please let me know if you need anything at all."

Han Xiaorui thanked him, noticing the name tag on his uniform. "Thank you so much, Comrade Yu."

"Don’t mention it," Comrade Yu said with a smile. "Mr. Ye specifically asked me to look out for you."

After Comrade Yu left, Han Xiaorui sighed. "I really owe Ye Feng for this. When I get back, I’ll have to treat him to a meal."

Han Xiaoqing suppressed a grin. "At your place, or at a restaurant?"

"Well... we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it," Han Xiaorui chided, a little flustered. ’My little sister’s been corrupted by Sister-in-law Xiao Yu; now she’s teasing me too.’

Two stops later, new passengers boarded, and two men were assigned to the upper bunks in their compartment.

The attendant came over, moved the two men to different seats, and arranged for two female passengers to take the upper bunks above Han Xiaorui and Han Xiaoqing instead.

It had to be said that Comrade Yu was very thoughtful, but of course, Mr. Ye was even more so.

She had thought that this alone was enough to prove just how considerate Ye Feng was.

But what happened next would show Han Xiaorui once again just how thoughtful this man was—a tough guy with a surprisingly tender heart.
