The Shadow Wolf's Second Life: They Bullied The Wrong Omega
Chapter 70: The Urge To Kill
Edgar’s golden eyes remained dark, unmoving, and entirely unswayed by her tears. He knew his sister far too well. She was repeating those words like it was what she had rehearsed.
"What else did you say to her?" Edgar asked, his voice flat. "If you simply tried to stop her, she wouldn’t have put Jane through my wall."
"But brother, what if she did that so she could escape?!" Valentina cried out desperately.
"Tina," Edgar called out. His tone dropped into an ominously low, suffocating frequency that made her instantly flinch. Her shoulders slouched, and her eyes darted down to the floor in panic. "What did you say to her?"
"I..." Valentina pursed her lips, her fingers trembling against his jacket sleeve. "It was just a harmless little joke about her family! She completely overreacted!"
I watched her pathetic performance with disgusted eyes.
A harmless joke.
Seeing her cling to Edgar, sobbing and playing the victim, made my stomach turn. He was her brother. Of course he was going to take her side. Of course blood was going to protect blood. Expecting anything else from a family of high-ranking Alphas was a foolish waste of time.
I was done talking.
Every muscle in my body coiled tight, and before Valentina could squeeze out another fake tear, I launched forward like a released spring, my target locked entirely on her throat. To protect my family, I had to take out the threat.
Valentina let out a high-pitched horrified shriek, but before my strike could connect, Edgar moved.
His reaction speed was terrifying. In half a second, he shoved Valentina forcefully out of my trajectory, sending her tumbling onto the carpet, and stepped straight into my path.
I couldn’t stop my body at that point. I threw a brutal strike directly at his chest, but instead of blocking or restraining my arms, Edgar wrapped both of his thick arms completely around my upper body, pulling me hard against his broad frame.
"Let go of me!" I snarled, thrashing against his grip as my core temperature plunged even lower.
Edgar didn’t flinch. He tightened his hold, trapping my arms against my sides as his broad hand came up to rest gently at the back of my head, burying my face against his collar.
"I know you’re angry, but calm down, little cat," Edgar whispered softly into my ear, his low voice vibrating straight through my chest. "Don’t bare your fangs. Let me deal with it."
"Deal with it?" I spat coldly, my voice muffled against his jacket, keeping my body rigid as I glared up at him. "She’s your sister. Of course you’ll take her side."
"Brother!" Valentina shrieked from the floor, scrambling back onto her feet with her eyes wide in disbelieving outrage. "What are you doing holding her?! She just tried to kill me! She’s crazy!"
Edgar slowly turned his head toward his sister, his golden eyes cold and unblinking as he kept me securely tucked against his body.
"What was the harmless joke?" Edgar demanded sharply. He could easily tell that whatever this ’joke’ was, it was the exact spark that had me seeking blood.
Valentina froze. She didn’t say anything, her eyes frantically darting toward Jane’s unconscious, battered body on the floor. "I... I don’t..."
"Edgar," I called out softly.
He looked down at me, his golden eyes meeting mine.
"Your sister is so haughty," I whispered, looking straight into his eyes with a dead, unblinking stare that sent a violent chill running straight down his spine. "Who knows if she’ll end up dead in a ditch somewhere on her way home? She would have no one to blame but herself, right?"
Edgar’s breath hitched for a second as the true weight of those words hit him. His head snapped up, his eyes locking onto his sister like a strike of thunder.
"Tina!" he shouted, his voice shaking the entire room. "Did you say that to Brianna?!"
Valentina flinched violently, shrinking back in pure horror. She had never seen her brother so genuinely furious before.
"No! No, not me!" she shrieked, shaking her head frantically in denial. "It was Jane! She said it! Not me!"
I let out a sharp, bitter snort against Edgar’s chest.
"So quick to throw the blame to the next person. That’s so like you, you snake!" I muttered.
"I had no idea she threatened you," Edgar said and I let out a bark of a laugh.
"Believe me, if it were about me, I wouldn’t care in the slightest since I can deal with her whenever she comes at me," I said, my voice dropping into a blood-curdling rasp as I glared at Valentina over Edgar’s shoulder with bloodshot, murderous eyes. "But my father? You want to threaten me with my father?"
My body surged with violent intent, my teeth bared in a cold, lethal snarl. "Count your days, Valentina, because I will definitely kill you."
Once again, Edgar tightened his arms around me, holding me firmly against his chest to keep my lethal impulses in check.
"I’ll handle this, so calm yourself," he whispered into my hair, his low voice vibrating against my ear. "I won’t let you be wronged."
Valentina watched the display in utter disbelief, her mind spiraling into manic confusion. Why was that useless Omega in her brother’s arms? Why was he listening to her? People never listened to Brianna. All Valentina usually needed to do was sob, speak softly as she twisted the facts, and everyone would immediately take her side—because Brianna was nothing more than a pathetic, wolfless Omega capable of nothing. So why...?
Her manicured nails dug so hard into her palms that her knuckles turned white.
Beside her, Stephanie nervously piped up, desperately trying to construct a logical defense for their mess. "She... Jane only said that because Brianna is so useless and hated! She was caught stealing, so she’s naturally going to drag the rest of her family down with her!"
Valentina nodded frantically, grasping onto Stephanie’s words like a lifeline. "Yes! Yes, that’s right, brother! That’s what Jane meant! She was just warning her! If she goes around stealing, her family will end up paying for it."
My eyes burned with pure, murderous intent. Even now! But Edgar’s grip around me remained ironclad, pinning my body in place.
"You say she was stealing?" Edgar asked, his voice deceptively smooth, though the dangerous rumble vibrating in his chest warned of an impending storm.
Stephanie frantically nodded, stepping forward to back up Valentina. "That’s right, Mr. Morningstar! She was snooping around your vanity and—"
"Did you see her steal anything?"
