The Side Character Who Wins by Doing Nothing
Chapter 309: We Are From the Immortal Alliance
’So, these people only started this business a year ago.’
That would explain why there had been no rumors about this in the Cultivation World before.
It wasn’t that they were exceptionally secretive, but simply because they had just begun.
Luo Linlang continued, "Fang Shaoxin’s father kept him in the dark, but he was curious. After accidentally stumbling upon a few things, he managed to learn the identity of one of the people involved."
Her expression turned serious. "That person is also likely involved in transporting Demon Cultivators. He’s only at the Golden Core Stage. His name is Yan He, and he comes from... the Beast Taming Sect."
At this, Luo Linlang couldn’t help but get excited. "See? I told you the Beast Taming Sect was behind this! This basically proves it!"
But Lu Sangjiu showed none of her excitement at discovering the mastermind. Instead, her expression grew grim.
Luo Linlang sensed something was off. Her face tensed. "You... why aren’t you saying anything? Is something wrong?"
Lu Sangjiu pressed her lips together slightly and looked at Luo Linlang. "Before I came, I contacted Xie Ningyuan. He found out Elder Yuan’s identity... He was once an Honored Guest Elder of the Gold and Silver Gate."
The moment she said this, Luo Linlang’s expression froze. "...How can that be?!"
She wasn’t so shocked because she had a favorable view of the Gold and Silver Gate, but because two different sects had now been implicated. This meant things were probably not as simple as she had thought.
’And... it’s likely not just these two. If we keep digging, we might uncover even more sects!’
Lu Sangjiu sighed softly. "Let’s not panic yet. In any case, it’s a good thing that we’ve identified some of the people involved."
As she spoke, she used a Communication Talisman to contact the others, mentioning the name Yan He from the Beast Taming Sect and asking if anyone knew him.
A moment later, Feng Lin replied, "I know him. He’s an Inner Sect Disciple of the Beast Taming Sect. I met him once during my travels, but I heard he unfortunately perished while away from the sect a year ago. Why are you asking about him?"
Hearing the last part of the message, Lu Sangjiu froze. ’Perished?’
She couldn’t help but look at Luo Linlang. "Are you sure that person is Yan He from the Beast Taming Sect?"
Luo Linlang, unaware of Feng Lin’s reply, just looked puzzled. "Of course. Would I lie to you?"
She paused, then added, "Fang Shaoxin personally heard his father call him Yan He, saw that he was often accompanied by a Beast Pet, and also happened to overhear someone mention the Beast Taming Sect when talking to him. There’s no mistake."
Lu Sangjiu’s gaze was solemn. "But... Feng Lin says he’s dead."
’If Feng Lin heard this news, it must have come from within the Beast Taming Sect, meaning that as far as the sect is concerned, Yan He is dead.’
’Yet here he is, alive and well. So... either the entire Beast Taming Sect is compromised, or there’s a mole inside the sect who helped Yan He fake his death.’
After all, Inner Sect Disciples of every sect are required to leave a Life Token at their sect. If they die, the Life Token shatters.
So, it wasn’t enough for Yan He to just create the illusion of his death. He needed someone with access to the Life Tokens to tamper with his at the sect.
’Of course, if the entire Beast Taming Sect is involved, that’s another matter entirely.’
Luo Linlang also realized the implications and rubbed her arms. "Why do I feel like... this whole thing is getting more and more terrifying?"
The Four Great Sects and the Four Small Sects had always been the face of the Cultivation World in her mind, symbols of righteousness.
But now she was suddenly realizing that what she thought was righteous might not be so righteous after all, and that anyone could be compromised.
Her entire worldview was being overturned. How could she not be afraid?
Lu Sangjiu remained relatively calm. "Let’s not think about that for now. We’ve drawn up a series of plans, and we’ll need you to coordinate with us on a few things here..."
「The next afternoon.」
A carriage departed discreetly from the Fang Family estate.
The drivers were two Cultivators, both with Late-stage Golden Core cultivation.
After leaving the Fang Family, they passed through Lu City and headed south.
The journey was uneventful until nightfall, when two people suddenly blocked the carriage’s path. "This is a robbery! Hand over all your valuables, and we might just let you live!"
The two Golden Core cultivators’ expressions changed, but when they noticed that the ones blocking their path were two women, they visibly relaxed a little.
"Why don’t you open your damn eyes and look? One at the Golden Core Early Stage and one at the Late-stage Golden Core, and you think you can mess with us?"
"Scram now, and we can pretend this never happened."
Yan Zui was displeased and was about to say something, but Feng Lin beside her frowned impatiently. "Don’t waste time talking to them. Let’s just do it."
Feng Lin was ruthless and a person of few words; she always chose to fight rather than talk.
So, before Yan Zui could even react, she took out her Golden Bell and brought it down over the carriage.
She didn’t use her Suona, as it was too distinctive. It would be bad if she were recognized.
Seeing this, the two men on the carriage naturally didn’t just sit there and wait for death. They hastily dodged aside, so in the end, only the carriage itself was trapped inside the Golden Bell.
But Feng Lin wasn’t disappointed that she had "missed," since her real target was just the carriage all along... ’Right, protect the people inside first, so I don’t have to worry about them later.’
The two Golden Core Stage cultivators, however, had no such realization. They just thought she had missed and couldn’t help but sneer.
"You’re courting death!"
The two immediately took out their respective Magic Treasures and attacked the women.
However, before their attacks could reach Feng Lin, Yan Zui intercepted them. At the same time, Feng Lin took out a flute and began to play it slowly.
The sound of a flute should be beautiful and pleasant.
But no one could have expected that a perfectly good instrument would sound so different in Feng Lin’s hands!
A grating, unpleasant melody erupted—chaotic and without any structure, yet it carried an attack aimed at their Divine Sense, causing excruciating pain!
Even Yan Zui stumbled. "HISS... Can’t you control it? Don’t hit your own teammate!"
The flute’s melody then became more focused. With its support, it didn’t take long for Yan Zui to knock both men to the ground.
"Tsk. Disobedient prey. Might as well kill them all."
Saying this, Yan Zui made a move as if to strike. The two men were scared out of their wits and finally couldn’t hold back. "Stop! You can’t kill us! We’re from the Immortal Alliance! If you kill us, you’ll be in big trouble!"
The Immortal Alliance!
Yan Zui’s and Feng Lin’s expressions changed simultaneously.
They never would have imagined that the Immortal Alliance, always a symbol of fairness and order, would be involved in the business of trafficking Demon Cultivators!
Both of their faces turned grim. Seeing this, the two men assumed they were scared and gloated arrogantly, "Scared now, are we? It’s not too late to let us go!"
Feng Lin narrowed her eyes. "How can you prove you’re from the Immortal Alliance?"
"I have an Immortal League Token!"
