The Side Character Who Wins by Doing Nothing

Chapter 489: She's Actually a Demon Cultivator

  • Next Chapter

Based on the Ghost Infants’ previous behavior, they seemed to be immune to Spells, but Lu Sangjiu, with her Immortal Demon Attraction, had drawn her own conclusions.

First, she could sense that the Ghost Infants had previously been tinged with the aura of that disc-like Magic Treasure.

But now, perhaps because Lu Sangjiu had seized the treasure, or perhaps because the disc had lost all its power, the connection between them had been severed.

The only reason these Ghost Infants could surge forth again was because of the flute’s melody; they no longer carried that strange aura from before.

Under these circumstances, she figured they might no longer be immune to Spell attacks. It was only natural, then, to test this theory with Immortal Demon Attraction—a technique that was both powerful and relatively easy to cast.

Even if it couldn’t harm them, the resulting shockwave would be enough to hinder them for a moment, giving Lu Sangjiu time to react.

Sure enough, the instant the Immortal Demon Attraction detonated, she heard the piercing wails of the Ghost Infants… ‘It’s working!’

With that, there was no need to hold back. Lu Sangjiu flicked her hand, launching several more Immortal Demon Attractions in quick succession. A cacophony of explosions and agonized shrieks filled the air.

Although these Ghost Infants seemed ferocious and powerful, their methods of attack were actually quite limited.

Had a normal Cultivator faced Lu Sangjiu’s relentless barrage of Immortal Demon Attractions, they would have immediately mounted a counter-attack, provided they weren’t killed outright.

But these creatures lacked intelligence and had few techniques. Unable to reach Lu Sangjiu in time, they could only take the beating passively.

The male cultivator above, playing his Bone Flute, saw the scene unfold below. Veins bulged on his forehead in a mixture of anger and confusion.

‘This person was clearly mediocre just a moment ago. How did they suddenly become so strong?’

‘And what is that technique? The power she’s using feels like neither Immortal Qi nor Demonic Qi. It’s almost like…’

His brow furrowed, but he quickly shook his head, dismissing his own suspicion.

‘How could it be what I’m thinking? Absolutely impossible!’

Yet no matter how furiously he played the flute, under the relentless assault, the Ghost Infants were obliterated one by one, leaving not even a trace behind.

The man suffered another backlash, spitting out a large mouthful of blood. His already pale face turned even whiter.

Just then, Mu Lin and Lie Rufeng moved to Lu Sangjiu’s side. Although she didn’t seem to need any help, they fulfilled their duties as teammates, positioning themselves to guard her from any sudden approach by the others.

After all, they had all been strangers before. Even though they had just fought side-by-side, with the immediate crisis over, who knew if someone might harbor ill intentions? It was best to be cautious.

That furious barrage had indeed taken a heavy toll on Lu Sangjiu.

As the four Ghost Infants turned to ash, she stopped, panting for breath.

Having suffered another backlash, the man above had been about to retreat.

But when he saw that Lu Sangjiu was also pale and seemed to be in a weakened state, a spark of indignation ignited within him.

‘After suffering such a huge loss, am I just going to leave like this?’

His gaze swept over the others, and he decided he still had a chance to take Lu Sangjiu’s life before making his escape.

Gritting his teeth, he suddenly dove downward!

Flying was supposed to be forbidden in the Secret Realm, yet by some unknown means, he descended with an eerie grace, seemingly unaffected by the restriction!

The attack was so sudden that no one saw it coming.

And his target was clear—he was heading straight for Lu Sangjiu!

Lu Sangjiu shot her head up, a flash of intense killing intent in her eyes. ‘He finally took the bait. I’m going to kill this bastard today!’

However, just as she was about to strike, a powerful aura suddenly erupted from nearby!

And… it was Demonic Qi!

Lu Sangjiu’s heart skipped a beat. Her first thought was that the man had an accomplice hidden among their group.

But when she glanced over, she was surprised to find that the powerful Demonic Qi was not directed at her.

Just as the man was about to reach Lu Sangjiu, another figure shot out, intercepted him, and then sped away into the distance!

Incredibly, neither of them was affected by the Secret Realm’s flight restriction. In a flash, their figures vanished from sight.

Only the last echoes of their conversation remained.

The man’s voice was filled with terror. “…It’s you?!”

The woman, however, let out a soft laugh. “I’ve finally caught you. Decided how you want to die yet?”

Lu Sangjiu was stunned for a long moment before it finally registered. The person who had intercepted and carried off the man was… Yan Yu?

It wasn’t just Lu Sangjiu; the others were utterly shocked as well.

Mu Lin’s jaw nearly hit the floor. “She… She’s a Demon Cultivator, too?!”

“How could that be? Why didn’t I notice even a hint of it before?”

Lie Rufeng, by contrast, was relatively calm. He seemed to recall something. “I’ve heard that among the factions of the Demon God Palace, there is one that is mysterious and unfathomable, skilled in the arts of deception. There have long been rumors that its members can disguise themselves as Immortal Cultivators, making them difficult to detect.”

“It seems those rumors may be true.”

Hearing this, Lu Sangjiu couldn’t help but look at Lie Rufeng with curiosity. “What sect is that?”

Lie Rufeng didn’t answer her. Instead, he stared at her, his expression unreadable. “Before we get to that, perhaps Mr. Lu should first explain what methods you use to change your appearance so completely each time?”

Lu Sangjiu froze. ‘Crap, he found me out.’

Of course, after using Immortal Demon Attraction, she wasn’t surprised to be discovered.

Mu Lin, however, looked completely bewildered. “What Mr. Lu? Isn’t his surname Lin?”

Lie Rufeng didn’t explain, and Lu Sangjiu certainly wasn’t about to say anything.

She just gave Lie Rufeng a slightly awkward smile. “Haha… A person has to have a few tricks up their sleeve to get by in the world, don’t they?”

But Lie Rufeng’s gaze was scrutinizing. “But don’t you think the frequency with which you appear before me is a bit high?”

“Or perhaps… you’re approaching me with some other purpose in mind, Mr. Lu?”

‘Now that’s just unfair,’ Lu Sangjiu thought. ‘What other purpose could I possibly have? It’s all just been a coincidence, okay?’

She replied helplessly, “I just happened to run into you. Besides, I haven’t done anything to harm you. There’s no need to be so wary, is there, Mr. Lie?”

That… was true.

But Lie Rufeng thought of his master.

‘Last time, I kept it from my master because of our agreement. But this time… there’s no agreement. Wouldn’t it be wrong not to help him out just this once?’

‘Though it didn’t sound like some deep-seated grudge, his master was normally a very detached person. The fact that he’d even asked about her meant he cared.’

‘And if it’s something he cares about, it’s probably best to resolve it.’

‘Besides, his master wasn’t the cruel or ruthless type who would take someone’s life over a trivial matter.’

Lu Sangjiu felt that the way Lie Rufeng was looking at her had suddenly turned… strange.

She had a bad feeling about this and subconsciously took half a step back.

And just at that moment, the entire Secret Realm began to tremble violently!
