The Smiling Death

Chapter 593: Daily routine

  • Next Chapter

Amon moved through the training ground with a sword held in his right hand, its entire blade enveloped in swirling darkness.

He performed one strike after another as quickly as possible, pushing his swordsmanship to its limits.

A horizontal slash.

[Crescent of Dusk]

A wide, dark arc burst from the blade and tore through the air before crashing into a nearby wall.

BOOM!

The impact echoed throughout the training ground.

The wall was specially constructed for students to practice their attacks, reinforced enough to withstand powerful strikes without being destroyed.

Amon immediately followed up with another attack, swinging his sword vertically.

[Shadow Fang]

Six enormous fangs made of condensed shadow shot forward.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

They slammed into the wall one after another, leaving dark marks across its surface. Then came his third form.

[Black Reaper’s Dance]

Amon’s body began to spin.

His sword moved continuously, producing one slash after another as he channeled darkness into every movement. With each rotation, the surrounding darkness grew denser until a dark whirlwind formed around him.

He continued his sword practice without stopping. He wasn’t simply training his swordsmanship. He was trying to ease his mind.

After everything he had learned about the System and the uncertain future waiting for him, the only thing he could do was become stronger.

Eventually, Amon finally stopped.

"Ha... ha..."

He breathed heavily, sweat trickling down his face.

He had already repeated all three sword forms several times, and the constant use of darkness had exhausted him considerably.

Clap! Clap! Clap.!

A sound of applause came from the side.

Amon turned his head. Standing a short distance away was a beautiful young woman with golden-blonde hair tied into a neat ponytail.

It was none other than Seraphina. Her usually elegant face was completely expressionless, though her mouth was slightly open as if she were trying to say, Oh...

Amon blinked.

"What are you clapping for?"

Seraphina suddenly stopped applauding.

"Huh...? Well..."

She tilted her head slightly. "I heard girls do this while watching their boyfriends train hard."

Amon’s lips twitched.

The way she said it with such a straight face, as if she were simply stating an ordinary fact, made her look unbearably cute.

The training ground was relatively quiet this early in the morning. The other students were training farther away, leaving only the two of them in this particular area.

No one could hear their conversation. For a moment, Amon felt an overwhelming urge to walk over and kiss Seraphina to his heart’s content.

But he managed to suppress it. Instead, he proudly raised his chin.

"Well, I am amazing. You’re pretty lucky to have a man like me."

Seraphina nodded without hesitation.

"Yes."

Amon’s smug smile widened. But then she continued.

"But only if you weren’t such a womanizer."

"..."

Amon’s expression instantly froze.

"I am not!!"

"Hehehe~"

Seraphina finally broke into a soft chuckle as she looked at his flustered reaction.

Amon could only stare at her helplessly. They had been training together every morning ever since they started dating.

Usually, they would begin by sparring with each other. Afterward, they would practice their swordsmanship or magic separately, sometimes exchanging advice whenever one of them noticed something the other could improve.

It had already become a familiar part of their daily routine.

And, despite everything happening around him lately, Amon had to admit. He looked forward to these mornings. They continued training for little longer before leaving the training ground.

---

Amon and Seraphina were now walking through one of the academy’s hallways.

Students were coming and going from their classrooms, filling the corridor with lively chatter. Starting tomorrow, their regular classes would resume. And honestly...

Amon really didn’t want to attend them. He had gotten far too used to training, fighting, and doing whatever he wanted during their break.

Just thinking about sitting through lectures again made him sigh internally. As they continued walking side by side, Seraphina suddenly seemed to remember something.

"Amon! I forgot to tell you something!"

Her sudden voice startled him.

"Huh? What is it?"

Seraphina hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Actually... I told someone other than our friends about you confessing to me."

Amon’s expression immediately changed. "What?! Who? And why didn’t you tell me before?" He lowered his voice and leaned closer to her. "Tell me who it is."

Seraphina glanced around before answering. "Professor Adelia."

"..."

Amon went completely silent. For a moment, his brain seemed to stop functioning.

’Professor Adelia?!’

Seraphina noticed his reaction and looked at him worriedly. "I-I’m sorry. I was confused at the time, and she asked me what was troubling me, so I told her."

She lowered her gaze slightly. "I forgot that you were also trying to make her one of your lovers."

Amon’s eyes widened. He immediately looked around the hallway.

Then, without saying another word, he grabbed Seraphina’s hand and quickly led her toward a secluded area where there were no other students nearby.

"Hey! What are you saying?"

Seraphina looked at him with narrowed eyes.

"I’m just telling you the truth."

"What truth?!"

"You’ve been flirting with her since last year."

She calmly listed the evidence. "And you always called her the most gentle angel in the world. So I thought you were also trying to win her over."

Amon gritted his teeth.

"..."

’She isn’t exactly wrong.’

He had indeed teased Adelia quite a lot in the past. And he had openly praised her as a gentle angel more than once.

Still Amon had no intention of rushing into another relationship right now. Somewhere along the way, after permission from Scarlett he was actually thinking of taking Adelia as well.

’I want to become something first before getting any more lovers.’

He already had enough trouble dealing with Scarlett and Seraphina. Adding another woman into the mix right now would probably make his life even more chaotic.

And considering how complicated things had already become. He definitely didn’t need another headache.

"Listen, I’ll talk with Professor Adelia..." Amon said, then hesitated for a moment. "Did you tell her that you accepted my confession?"

Seraphina shook her head. "No, I didn’t."

She gave him a small smile. "Now go and talk to her. I’ll go meet Eliana and the others."

"Okay..."

Amon nodded. Then, with a completely straight face, he added,

"Also, it’s not like I want to add her to my lovers or anything."

Seraphina stared at him for a moment. "Hehehe..." She covered her mouth and laughed softly.

"Okay, okay. As you say, Amon." She clearly didn’t believe a single word he had just said. "See you later." With that, Seraphina turned around and walked away.

Amon watched her disappear into the crowd of students before letting out a long sigh. "She definitely didn’t believe me..."

He shook his head. There was no point thinking about it now. He had something more important to deal with professor Adelia, Amon immediately turned around and hurried toward the academy infirmary.

A short while later, Amon arrived at the infirmary. The moment he stepped inside, the familiar scent of medicine filled his nose.

Several beds were arranged throughout the large room, while a few healers moved around, treating students who had suffered minor injuries during their training.

Amon’s eyes quickly found Adelia. She was sitting beside one of the beds, treating an injured student.

Her bright-green hair was neatly tied back, and her yellow eyes were focused entirely on her work. Beside her, another healer was assisting her and carefully following her instructions.

Amon didn’t want to interrupt.

So, without saying anything, he quietly walked toward one of the sofas in the corner of the infirmary and sat down.

He leaned back and waited.

Adelia remained completely focused on the injured student.

"Don’t move your arm yet. The wound hasn’t completely healed."

"Yes, Professor."

"Good. Give it a few minutes before trying to move it again."

After finishing the treatment, Adelia finally stood up.

"That should do it."

The student thanked her before getting off the bed.

Adelia turned around. Her eyes immediately landed on the young man sitting quietly on the sofa.

Her entire body froze.

"...Amon?"

She hadn’t expected to see him here. Surprise flashed across her face. Amon simply looked back at her. Adelia quickly composed herself.

"Hello, Amon."

She greeted him with a small smile, though there was a hint of awkwardness in her voice.

Amon smiled nervously and said, "Hello professor, I wanted to talk something important with you, but alone. Just two of us."

She paused in middle of walking.
