Chapter 503 - 443: Seeing the Emperor Again
Chapter 503: Chapter 443: Seeing the Emperor Again
The Northern Plains were as desolate as ever, with a cluster of buildings rising from a vast wasteland.
"Meat for sale!"
"Fresh monster meat!"
The vendors’ calls were incessant. It was less a town than a marketplace, and one of this size was a rare sight in the Northern Plains, as most Barbarian People weren’t accustomed to trading.
Aside from the four cities established by the Demon Sect, the Northern Plains were mostly dotted with scattered Barbarian Villages, like the one Bai Yuan had previously visited.
Bai Yuan walked through the marketplace.
Everyone coming and going was one of the Barbarian People, and with his current physique, he didn’t look the least bit out of place.
Every now and then, people would shoot him looks of awe.
The Barbarian People revered the strong, and the aura of the Great Mastery of Body Techniques radiating from Bai Yuan was enough to make their hearts pound. Because of this, it was nearly impossible for him to run into any trouble.
Soon, a burly Barbarian warrior approached him.
"Great warrior, are you looking to buy something at the market?"
’From the way he spoke, this brawny man must be the manager of this market. His strength is impressive—Peak of Perception.’
The Barbarian People revered the strong, and there was virtually no law or order.
To manage a market like this, one needed immense strength. Otherwise, never mind the Barbarian People themselves, the monsters rampaging through the Northern Plains would have razed it to the ground.
The man’s appearance meant that Bai Yuan’s arrival had already caught the attention of the market’s overseer.
Bai Yuan got straight to the point. "I’m looking for Big Beard."
Hearing those two words, "Big Beard," the burly Barbarian’s expression changed. He shook his head. "Sorry, there’s no one named Big Beard here."
"Then don’t bother. I’ll find him myself."
Bai Yuan took a step forward, moving past the burly warrior.
He wasn’t about to give up so easily over a single sentence from the man.
But the burly warrior sidestepped, blocking Bai Yuan’s path once more. "Great Warrior, Big Beard does not wish to see you."
"So he is here," Bai Yuan said, a smile touching his lips.
When he first arrived in the Northern Plains, he had gone straight to the cabin at the foot of Cang Mang Mountain. But upon arrival, he found the cabin deserted and Big Beard long gone.
He had asked many monsters and men before finally finding a clue to Big Beard’s whereabouts here.
’If I’m going to do business with the Barbarian People, I can’t do it without Big Beard’s support.’
There were two Divine Communication Powerhouses in total among the Barbarian People. One was the Soul Chasing Tower Lord, and the other was Big Beard.
The Soul Chasing Tower Lord was out of the question, so his only option was to find Big Beard.
If Big Beard just gave him some kind of token, the Cao Bang’s future caravans would be able to travel through the Northern Plains unhindered.
He had spent a full half-month in the Northern Plains just to find Big Beard.
The burly warrior said in a heavy tone, "Great Warrior, I must ask you to leave."
His tone was surprisingly polite, as he knew full well that he was no match for the man before him.
Bai Yuan shook his head. "I need to see him."
The burly warrior’s brow furrowed. He knew he couldn’t persuade this man. Just as he was racking his brain in frustration, a voice rang out. "Bai, I truly didn’t want to see you."
Hearing the voice, the burly warrior froze for a moment before turning to look.
He saw a figure even more powerfully built than himself appear from behind.
"War God."
Big Beard waved the burly warrior away. "Bai, it’s been a while. You’ve gotten stronger again, kid."
Bai Yuan grinned. "Senior, I brought you something good."
As he spoke, he took the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow from his back.
When Big Beard saw the bow in Bai Yuan’s hand, his interest was immediately piqued.
He took the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow, brandished it a few times to get a feel for it, then hooked the string with his right hand and pulled with sudden force.
He drew the bow into a full moon!
Bai Yuan was speechless at the sight.
’I always thought that if anyone in the world could draw this Sun-Shooting Divine Bow, it had to be Big Beard.’
Big Beard easily released the bowstring and nodded with satisfaction.
"A good bow."
He had never used weapons, not because they were useless, but because his own body was stronger than nearly any Divine Iron. This bow was one of the few weapons in the world worthy of his attention.
"Senior, as soon as I got this bow, I thought of you. I came all this way just to give it to you."
Big Beard shot Bai Yuan a sidelong glance, then tossed the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow back to him. "It’s a fine bow, but it’s not much use to me right now. You can draw it too, kid. Keep it and use it yourself."
Bai Yuan caught the divine bow and grinned. "Senior, actually, there was something else..."
Big Beard eyed Bai Yuan skeptically.
’Knowing this kid, of course he didn’t come all this way just to deliver a bow. The offer probably wasn’t even sincere.’
Bai Yuan said, "Senior, I’ve found a good business opportunity. Xuan Yang wishes to open trade with the Barbarian People, to exchange goods."
Big Beard said, "Then tell them to come."
Big Beard was already somewhat aware of the matter.
Before the war between the Demon Sect and Xuan Yang, the Barbarian People frequently traded with caravans from Xuan Yang. You could even see Xuan Yang merchants on Cang Mang Mountain.
Bai Yuan explained, "But now that the Demon Sect has withdrawn, the Northern Territory is no longer safe. I was hoping you, Senior, could put in a good word and ask the various powers that be to make things convenient. That’s the only way I can get the food supplies here."
At the mention of food, Big Beard’s interest was instantly piqued.
Ever since he had tasted Bai Yuan’s cooking, everything else had seemed bland and flavorless.
Big Beard unfastened a beast bone from his waist. "Have the caravans carry this from now on. In the Northern Plains, no man or monster will give you trouble again."
Bai Yuan accepted the beast bone, his heart leaping with joy.
’If Big Beard said it was fine, then it was a done deal.’
The issue of trade had been resolved just like that. As long as he could get the goods to the Northern Plains, the rest would take care of itself.
