Chapter 529: Chapter 456: The Real and Fake Demonic Seed

「This day.」

Bai Yuan sat cross-legged in his room, holding the Heirloom Seal of the Realm in his hand.

Ever since obtaining the Heirloom Seal of the Realm, he had been trying to figure out how to integrate this final part into the Divine Palace.

But all his attempts ended in failure.

It was frustrating to have a treasure he couldn’t use.

Bai Yuan could only comfort himself, ’Perhaps the time just isn’t right, or maybe I’m not strong enough yet. I’m sure I’ll figure it out when the moment comes.’

He had just put the Heirloom Seal of the Realm away.

Just then—

Yang Fangyu’s voice sounded from outside the door: "Ah Yuan, there’s a situation in the Northern Plains."

Hearing that it was about the Northern Plains, Bai Yuan immediately stood up.

Before he had even finished speaking, Bai Yuan pushed the door open.

Seeing Yang Fangyu’s furrowed brow, Bai Yuan asked, "Fang Yu, what on earth happened?"

"The Northern Plains have been restless recently. One of Cao Bang’s merchant caravans was attacked by experts from the Demon Sect."

At these words, Bai Yuan’s expression turned grave.

Cao Bang’s caravans traveled under the protection of Big Beard’s Bone Order. In the Northern Plains, almost no one would dare to cross them—except for the Demon Sect.

But the Demon Sect had been quiet ever since Mr. Yuan ascended to the heavens.

He hadn’t expected them to start making moves again.

He scented a conspiracy.

"Do we know why?"

Yang Fangyu shook his head. "Not yet. I’ve sent people to the Northern Plains to investigate. We should have an answer soon."

"Mm."

...

「Five days later.」

News finally arrived from the Northern Plains.

A young man dressed as a merchant knelt before Bai Yuan. "Lord Bai."

Bai Yuan asked, "What news did you gather in the Northern Plains?"

The bond between the Northern Territory and the Northern Plains had been growing stronger. Besides Cao Bang’s caravans, the Northern Territory now sent its own merchants to the Northern Plains to trade with the Barbarian People.

Yang Fangyu had taken the opportunity to plant numerous informants.

This young man was one of them.

The young man looked at Bai Yuan respectfully. "My lord, the attackers were from the Demon Sect, but they’ve been acting under the banner of the Demon Sect’s Saint Heir."

Yang Fangyu frowned.

"Demon Sect Saint Heir?"

The Demon Sect had fought Xuan Yang for many years. He considered himself fairly knowledgeable about the sect, but he’d never heard of them having a Saint Heir.

Bai Yuan said calmly, "Continue."

"I only heard this from some of the Barbarian People. They say a Saint Heir has appeared who wants to unite the Demon Sect and restore its former glory."

The word "appeared" struck a chord.

Bai Yuan and Yang Fangyu exchanged a look.

Yang Fangyu asked uncertainly, "A Holy Seed?"

This so-called Saint Heir of the Demon Sect was remarkably similar to the Holy Seed that had previously wreaked havoc in Ling Province.

Bai Yuan’s heart sank.

He had already confirmed from Mr. Yuan that there was no such thing as a Holy Seed. Or rather, any member of the Demon Sect who could reach the Demon God realm was, in effect, a Holy Seed.

Everything that had happened in Ling Province was a fabrication orchestrated by Mr. Yuan.

But Bai Yuan had rejected it all, and he never imagined someone else would pick up the mantle.

Yang Fangyu pressed on.

"And this Demon Sect Saint Heir... what’s his background?"

The young merchant shook his head. "The Saint Heir is extremely mysterious. Very few people know anything about him. I’ve only heard that the Tianxin Sect Leader has already appointed him as his successor."

Hearing this...

Yang Fangyu was even more astonished.

He hadn’t expected the so-called Demon Sect Saint Heir to have already won the support of the Tianxin Sect Leader.

The Demon Sect was comprised of two main branches.

The Celestial Heart Sect’s power was in no way inferior to the Soul-Chasing Tower’s. Their respective leaders were arguably the two most influential figures in the Demon Sect, second only to the Sect Master himself.

No one would believe that the Demon Sect’s high command was unaware of this.

Yet, the Demon Sect had made no official response, an attitude that was quite telling.

’Could it be that the Holy Seed is real after all?’

"Alright, you’re dismissed."

Seeing that he couldn’t get any more information, Yang Fangyu simply waved his hand, dismissing the young merchant.

He turned to Bai Yuan. "Ah Yuan, what should we do about this Saint Heir who’s appeared out of nowhere?"

"Keep gathering intelligence."

"Alright."

Yang Fangyu nodded.

The Demon Sect was a colossus. Under Mr. Yuan’s meticulous cultivation, its military strength was nearly equal to half of Xuan Yang’s. If such a massive force were to march south, it would be a fatal blow to the current Xuan Yang.

As he watched Yang Fangyu leave, Bai Yuan’s eyes narrowed slightly.

’Saint Heir... Holy Seed...’

He had avoided the identity of the Holy Seed like the plague.

He never expected someone would willingly take up that mantle. It was truly surprising.

’I’d like to see just who this person is.’

...

「The Northern Plains, upon an endless wasteland.」

A dilapidated little wooden cabin stood silently on the vast earth.

CREAK.

The courtyard gate was pushed open.

A young man in fine clothes and an old man in a black robe that obscured his face walked into the small courtyard.

The wooden cabin was in a state of disrepair, looking as if it might collapse at any moment.

A strong gust of wind could have wiped the entire place from existence. Only the orchids in the courtyard seemed to be flourishing.

"So this is where Mr. Yuan lived?"

The young man curiously plucked an orchid leaf.

The old man in the black robe spoke in a hoarse voice, "Yes, this is it."

"It doesn’t seem particularly special."

The young man glanced around, eager to know what kind of person the never-before-seen Mr. Yuan truly was.

After all, every single person he met adopted a look of reverent awe—a look he despised—the moment they heard the name "Mr. Yuan."

The black-robed old man didn’t answer.

When Mr. Yuan was alive, he himself had only been allowed to enter this courtyard a handful of times.

Besides the Soul Chasing Tower Lord and the Sect Master of the Demon Sect, almost no one was qualified to enter this courtyard. That included him, even though he was the Tianxin Sect Leader.

He gazed at the young man before him.

His eyes were profound.

’Holy Seed...’

Those two words surfaced in the Tianxin Sect Leader’s mind.
