Chapter 89: 89 bloody battle

bloody battle

Thousands of them were spread along the sides, some holding swords.

Others carried bows, and the archers had already prepared their arrows.

The wounded warriors remained standing, and at the center of that formation stood Thesira, her body covered in wounds.

Blood flowed down her arm, while a deep cut ran across part of her side.

Her breathing was heavy.

She had spent an absurd amount of spiritual energy during the battle.

But she was still standing, and the sword remained in her hand. Thesira slowly raised her head.

Her eyes met Varkhan’s, and for several seconds, neither of them spoke.

Then a faint smile appeared on her face. It was not a smile of provocation.

It was simply the expression of someone who had finally completed a stage of a plan.

Thesira raised her sword.

"Now."

The word was quiet, but the Medusas heard it, and a green signal rose into the sky.

Dozens of points of light crossed the mountains. The soldiers looked up and then heard footsteps.

First came dozens, then hundreds, then thousands.

From the slopes emerged Medusas that had been hiding behind the rocky formations.

They descended from the mountains like a wave.

Some carried swords.

Others held spears, while the archers took positions at higher elevations.

Tempered Body warriors concentrated spiritual energy into their weapons.

The Profound Elemental warriors advanced even more quickly, their bodies moving far beyond the capabilities of an ordinary warrior.

Some leaped several meters at once, while others crossed dozens of meters in mere moments.

The racial difference also became evident. The Medusas were extremely agile, their bodies weaving between the soldiers.

The poison-coated swords cut through armor, while poisoned arrows pierced shields.

And the eyes of the most powerful warriors began to glow green as the Lizardmen raised their shields.

"Defensive formation!"

The shout came too late.

The first ranks were struck.

A Medusa leaped onto a shield, spun her body in the air, and descended with her sword. The blade pierced the neck of a Lizardman.

Another warrior concentrated spiritual energy into her arms and unleashed a technique toward a line of enemies.

The impact opened a gap. The Beastmen immediately responded, and one of them roared and charged forward.

His physical strength, reinforced by spiritual energy, caused his sword to smash through a Medusa’s shield.

She was sent several meters backward.

Another Beastman entered the opening and attacked two warriors at the same time. One of them blocked.

Her sword broke, and the second attacked the enemy from the side. The Beastman’s claws tore through her shoulder before he was struck.

The battle was no longer a retreat. Now it was a massacre on both sides—five thousand against thousands.

The numbers were even.

But there was still something far more important: the high-level cultivators. Varkhan felt the pressure change.

Rhaena did as well, and both looked toward the mountain. Three figures slowly descended.

The three new elite cultivators of the Medusas.

Elyra.

Kaelia.

Lyssara.

Not long ago, they had been severely wounded warriors. Now, each possessed the aura of the tenth stage of Profound Nascent.

Varkhan remained motionless, and Rhaena slowly tightened her grip on one of her swords.

"Three..."

Her voice came out almost as a whisper. Varkhan bared his teeth.

"So that’s what this was. You hid your trump cards well."

The three did not advance immediately. They stopped before the enemy forces.

Elyra held a long sword. Kaelia kept both hands free, spiritual energy snaking around her arms.

Lyssara remained slightly behind, her eyes fixed on the two commanders.

Rhaena stepped forward.

"You were hiding tenth-stage cultivators."

Elyra calmly replied.

"We weren’t hiding them."

"Then where were they?"

"That information is none of your concern."

Varkhan let out a short laugh.

"Waiting until we put five thousand soldiers inside a trap."

Elyra did not answer.

That was enough.

Varkhan’s expression changed.

"Rhaena."

"I know."

The two advanced at the same time. Their spiritual energy exploded, and the ground cracked beneath their feet.

In an instant, they disappeared. The three Medusas reacted at the same time.

Clang!

Elyra blocked Rhaena’s sword. The impact sent a wave of energy across the battlefield.

Kaelia appeared beside Varkhan.

The enormous Beastman spun his body and struck with tremendous force.

Kaelia crossed her arms.

Spiritual energy enveloped her body as the attack landed.

BOOM!

She was pushed several meters backward but remained standing.

Varkhan narrowed his eyes.

"You just reached this level, didn’t you?"

Kaelia wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth.

"So what?"

"Then you still don’t know how to use your power."

She smiled.

"Perhaps."

The spiritual energy around her increased.

"But you don’t know mine either..."

She charged forward.

The confrontation between the five cultivators erupted, and none of the nearby soldiers could follow their movements.

They disappeared and reappeared among the rocks, each clash causing the ground to tremble.

Every strike carried enough energy to kill dozens of cultivators from the lower realms.

Rhaena attacked Elyra with her two curved swords. She was fast, extremely fast.

Her dark-green scales reflected the light as she spun her body and attacked from different angles.

Elyra blocked the first strike. The second passed close to her face.

The third was deflected.

On the fourth, Rhaena managed to cut her arm.

Blood flowed.

Elyra retreated.

Rhaena advanced.

"You still haven’t completely mastered this power."

Elyra tightened her grip on her sword.

"I don’t need to control it completely."

She raised her eyes.

"I only need to control it enough."

Spiritual energy exploded.

Elyra’s sword tore through the air. However, Rhaena blocked it. The impact caused her legs to sink several centimeters into the ground.

While the two fought, Varkhan faced Kaelia and Lyssara. The Beastman was brutal, and every strike seemed to carry the strength of a spiritual beast.

His fist struck Lyssara.

She narrowly dodged.

The shockwave destroyed part of the rocky formation behind her. Kaelia attacked from behind.

Varkhan turned and blocked.

"You three really believe you can defeat me?"

Lyssara appeared above him.

"No."

She descended with a spiritual technique.

"We’re only preventing you from reaching our warriors."

The technique struck.

Varkhan was partially buried in the ground for several seconds. No one could see him.

Then a massive hand emerged from between the rocks.

He climbed out.

Blood flowed down his forehead, but his eyes were filled with fury.

"So that’s it."

He looked at the three of them.

"You’re not trying to kill me."

Kaelia replied:

"Not yet."

Varkhan roared. Spiritual energy exploded around his body, and the pressure forced dozens of soldiers from both sides to retreat.

"Then I’ll kill you first!"

He charged forward.
