Lu Da understood then. He had crippled the Little Gangster Girl and the man with glasses in front of everyone, striking fear into the hearts of his own men.

It was, without a doubt, the most irrational thing he had ever done.

“I… I was just trying to save my own skin! I would’ve died otherwise! I never really wanted to cripple you. It was that… that Divine Doctor! He forced me to do it! It was him! If you’re going to blame anyone, blame him!”

STOMP!

The Little Gangster Girl slammed her foot onto Lu Da’s head and said pointedly, “I bet you never expected this, did you? The one who healed us… was also him!”

Just then, Li Yang walked over, clapping his hands. He smiled and said, “Lu Da, what a surprise, isn’t it?”

Lu Da was a formidable figure in his own right. Otherwise, he never would have amassed so much power in the underground Jianghu, let alone held his ground for so long. Hearing all this, he knew he had fallen completely into Li Yang’s trap.

His eyes went bloodshot when he saw Li Yang approaching. “Damn it, it was all you! You did this on purpose, you bastard!”

Li Yang stood before him and said coldly, “Of course it was on purpose. But who told you to be so arrogant in my presence? If you hadn’t come after me, why would I have bothered with you?”

Lu Da gasped for breath, consumed by regret.

‘The man saved my life,’ he thought. ‘I should have just thanked him, given him a few million, and been done with it. Why did I have to repay his kindness with malice? And look at me now.’

“Brother, I was blind… I failed to recognize your importance,” Lu Da swallowed hard, pleading with Li Yang. “You’re a bigger man than me, please, just forgive me. I really didn’t mean it. I just wasn’t thinking straight when I did all that. I swear it’ll never happen again. I can guarantee it. This is the last time, I swear I’ll never do it again. Please, believe me…”

Li Yang’s smile was wide. “Whether or not I believe you doesn’t really matter to you anymore,” he said cheerfully. “Besides, you’re much more useful to me dead.”

With that, Li Yang turned and walked away. “Sister Wen, I’ll leave the rest to you. This has nothing to do with me.”

Wen Ru stepped in front of Lu Da. A knife had appeared in her hand.

“Lu Da, you destroyed my family and then took me by force. Did you really think I was so spineless? That I would just let you toy with me forever?” Wen Ru’s voice was soft, but it carried a tidal wave of hatred. “I never gave up on getting my revenge. Now, you will finally die by my hand.”

“Wen Ru, you bitch—”

Before he could finish the word, the knife in Wen Ru’s hand was already buried in his throat.

Lu Da’s eyes bulged as he died, his face a mask of disbelief.

And so, a tycoon of his era met his end.

Wen Ru turned to face the men. “Lu Da was a man without honor who harmed his own brothers,” she declared. “I have eliminated him to uphold the principles of our Jianghu. If anyone objects, speak now.”

Everyone lowered their heads. Not a single person dared to say a word.

“Good. From now on, I’m in charge!” Wen Ru’s gaze swept over them. “If any of you want to challenge me for this position, you can also step forward.”

Still, no one dared to step forward.

“Then you’d all better fall in line!” the Little Gangster Girl roared, kicking Lu Da’s corpse. “From now on, you answer to Sister Wen!”

…

From a distance, Li Yang heard their shouts and sighed.

‘This was probably the most I’ve ever wanted to kill someone.’

‘That Lu Da really did deserve to die. I came all the way from Chaling to save his life, and what does he do? He tries to have me killed. Seriously, what was going through his head? He ended up in this state, but he really can’t blame me for it.’

Of course, after taking care of this, Li Yang had no intention of getting any more involved. His only goal was to eliminate the threat so they wouldn’t come looking for trouble again.

So, with the matter resolved, Li Yang went straight back to his hotel to sleep.

He slept soundly and didn’t wake up until ten the next morning.

When he woke up, he found Wen Ru already waiting for him downstairs in the hotel lobby.

“Divine Doctor Li!” Wen Ru greeted Li Yang with a warm smile. “You’re heading back today, aren’t you? Let me treat you to a meal.”

Li Yang’s first instinct was to refuse. He didn’t want any further entanglement with Wen Ru. After all, the hands of those in the Jianghu were never clean, and Li Yang, at the end of the day, just wanted to be a legitimate businessman.

But then he considered that he might have to return here in the future. Having them around to help with small favors would make things easier. So, he nodded and said, “You’re too kind, Sister Wen. Alright, let’s go get a meal together.”

Wen Ru nodded. “Come with me.”

He followed Wen Ru out, and they soon arrived at a restaurant.

“This is the most famous restaurant in the provincial capital,” Wen Ru explained with a smile. “Since you’re here, you have to try our best local cuisine.”

Li Yang didn’t object and sat down with Wen Ru.

“By the way, Divine Doctor Li, you can rest easy,” Wen Ru said with a smile after they were seated. “Lu Da is dead now. Those who wouldn’t follow me have also been… cleared out. There won’t be any retaliation.”
