Chapter 368: Chapter 369: A Scumbag Deserves a Beating
"We’ve run into a scammer!" Zhang Duan stood there, dumbfounded and on the verge of tears.
"Xiaoyang..." Zhang Li could only look to Li Yang.
Li Yang’s expression darkened. "Do you know where he lives?"
"I know where he lives..." Zhang Duan nodded.
"Let’s go. Take me there," Li Yang said with a nod. "We’re not the type to just take a loss without a fight. Come on, lead the way."
"Okay!"
...
Meanwhile, Manager Xu was still playing mahjong.
"Hey, Xiaoxu, I heard that shop you were managing already closed down? You don’t seem worried at all..."
"What’s there to be worried about?" Manager Xu laughed. "If that location didn’t work out, the company will figure out a way to open a new one somewhere else. They’ll find a new place for me to manage soon enough. Why should a hired hand like me worry?"
"That’s true. By the way, who was that just now? Seemed like they were in a hurry, right?"
"Haha, you guys won’t believe this..." Manager Xu burst out laughing. "A few days ago, right before we were about to close, I fired both of our employees to save the company a bit of money. Then this country boy shows up, saying he’d work for me for free. I knew something was fishy right away, but I had a lot to do, so I agreed. And guess what? The guy actually wanted to take over the shop, so he was trying to get on my good side. I just played along and let him work for free. The best part is, the day before we closed, he stuffed three thousand yuan into my hand, saying the storefront in that complex was in high demand and he hoped I could hold it for him to take over. I thought, ’Sure, no problem,’ and took the money. But... why on earth would I transfer it to him? When the time comes, whoever wants my shop will have to pay me a little something extra on top of the price the company sets. If I give it to him, wouldn’t I lose out on my kickback?"
"Whoa, Xiaoxu, I always said you were going places! You’ve got so many ways to make money!"
"Haha, you know it!" Manager Xu said, incredibly pleased with himself.
"But you’d better be careful, Xiaoxu..." another person warned. "What if he gets mad and comes looking for you?"
"What the hell is there to be afraid of?" Manager Xu said with contempt, clearly not taking Zhang Duan seriously. "A guy like him? What can he possibly do to me? He’s just a little peasant. When he comes to our city, he’d better keep his head down."
"That’s for sure!" The others roared with laughter.
Before long, Li Yang had found the place.
"I think that’s his voice..." Zhang Duan said, pointing at a shop.
Li Yang led Zhang Duan inside.
Inside, Manager Xu was playing mahjong with the others.
"Manager Xu..." Zhang Duan was overjoyed to see him and quickly took a few steps forward. "You really are here."
Manager Xu, who had just lost a round, was stunned for a moment when he saw Zhang Duan. Then, his anger flared. "I say, is there something wrong with you, kid? What are you doing here? You’re jinxing me! No wonder my luck is so bad. Get the hell out, out, out..."
Zhang Duan froze. "Manager Xu, it’s like this... I called you just now, and you said you weren’t transferring the place to us anymore. I’m fine with that, but can you give me my money back?"
"Give you your money back?" Manager Xu snapped. "What are you thinking? Have you lost your mind? What money do I owe you?"
"Yeah!" another big man said sarcastically. "Kid, you’d better speak clearly. Xiaoxu is a successful man around here. He owes you money?"
"That’s right. You’re just a peasant coming here and spouting nonsense. We’ll call the police and sue you for slander."
"No, he took three thousand yuan from me..." Zhang Duan said, growing anxious.
"I took three thousand yuan from you? Do you have a witness? Do you have any proof?" Manager Xu said with a smug look. "If you don’t, then get the hell out of here right now. If you don’t leave, I’m calling the cops. I’ll tell them you’re harassing us. Don’t blame me for what happens when they drag you away."
"How can you people be like this!" Zhang Duan was so angry he was trembling.
Manager Xu sneered inwardly. ’Idiotic peasant. How dare he come here and demand money from me.’
"Hurry up and leave! This is my shop. If you don’t go, I’m really calling the police!" At that moment, one of the big men stood up and said viciously, "Get out."
Just then, Li Yang spoke up. "And if I don’t get out, what are you going to do about it?"
The big man froze, his gaze finally shifting to Li Yang.
’Another little peasant.’
"You..." Li Yang said, pointing at Manager Xu. "Get over here. Let’s have a nice chat."
"Chat about what?" Manager Xu looked at Li Yang with disdain. "You’re the one I was talking to on the phone just now, right? I thought you were some big shot. Turns out you’re just another peasant. You’ve got some real nerve, thinking you’re somebody important."
Li Yang said to him, "The three thousand yuan. Pay it back now."
"Pay it back?" Manager Xu let out a dry laugh. "I’m telling you, kid, you’ve really got the guts to ask. Take a look around. This is my turf. You think I’m going to listen to you? Are you fucking crazy?"
