THE SYSTEM IS NOT MINE

Chapter 107: General Mofu

  • Next Chapter

That night, the gate of Golden Eagle City opened. Inside the city, Commander Leo stood firm, along with Yan, Chen Yu, and all the soldiers.

Behind the soldiers, normal civilians stood. The rooftops of nearby houses were also packed with people as they all looked toward the gate.

Leo had rushed here as soon as he got the news of the General's arrival. He had given the strict order to the others to welcome the new General.

At the moment, the gate creaked. Around six people came inside while riding horses.

Among the six, one wore fiery red armor. He had a black cloak on his shoulders. The cloak had a golden leaf symbol drawn upon it.

"Isn't that our Mofu?" Old man Qin, who was watching a bit far away from the rooftop of a house, said.

"Which Mofu?" There was an old woman next to him.

"The son of my best friend, Moiz."

The old woman glanced one more time at Mofu and tried to match the man before her with the boy she remembered.

"Yes, yes."

"He left for the military as a foot soldier years ago when he was just a teenager, came back only once when Moiz passed away, and never came back after that." The old woman said as they looked at Mofu.

"Greetings, General." Leo and other commanders took a step forward, knelt, and bowed their heads a bit.

"Greetings, General."

Afterwards, others immediately bowed as well.

"Stand up," Mofu nodded, but his eyes were on the familiar city, the familiar buildings, and the street where he used to often run along with his friends, playing and laughing.

"Let's go to the military base first." Mofu said as his horse moved toward the military barracks.

On the way to the base, Mofu did not stop looking around. He found the tree which he used to climb dried up, the playground that he used to spend most of his time in no longer present.

The commanders followed behind Mofu and his companions.

The soldiers followed behind them.

After arriving at his dedicated stay in the barracks, Mofu summoned all the commanders, including those of private units like Chen Yu.

"Three more days are left before we march toward Shin. Tell me about our troops. How many archers, cavalry, and cultivators do we have? And how much food?” Mofu said.

The next day, Mofu ordered everyone to gather in the military grounds.

Chen Yu led Han Defu's unit, including Yan and Gwalior, to the military grounds.

Some people stood nervous, some people were chatting with each other, some looked to be bored.

Then Mofu arrived with his six companions. Everyone looked at him.

He did not stand at the very front. He arrived next to Leo and placed his arm over the shoulder of Leo.

"Everyone, listen..."

"Two days left before we go to war."

Mofu said.

"And this is my first war as a General." Mofu removed his arm from Leo's shoulder.

"I won't say victory is guaranteed." Mofu shouted.

"But..." He came to the skinny soldier of Han Defu's unit.

The skinny soldier was sweating with nervousness, but Mofu extended his hand.

The skinny soldier extended his hand as well, then Mofu shook his hand.

"I believe our cooperation will raise the chance of victory."

Then Mofu pulled his hand back, and wind qi gathered around him as he flew up into the sky.

"I am looking forward to fighting alongside all of you."

Mofu paused.

His gaze swept across the soldiers below.

"I can't win the war alone."

"But I am not alone."

"I have you guys."

"And you have me."

Mofu paused.

"Together, we will grab the victory."

Mofu spread his arms wide.

The wind around Mofu grew stronger, swirling around him. Yet when it reached the soldiers, it softened, carrying away their sweat and easing the tension in their bodies

After about few moments, the wind stopped.

"You guys go ahead, do your work. We will meet again on the day of the war." Mofu said as he flew back to his companions.

"Kaizi, did I do well?" He asked one of the companions.

"Nope, Terrible. Absolute worst." Kaizi replied.

Hearing the answer, Mofu's face saddened.

Noticing the sadness, Kaizi reached out to Mofu's back and whispered in his ears, "I am joking, you did very well."

"Damn you!" Mofu shouted.

For a moment, the crowd that began to disperse looked over and stared at Mofu and wondered why the general shouted.

"Hey buddy, how is your girl?" Mofu patted Kaizi.

The crowd looked at them for a moment, then began to disperse.

Kaizi stared at him and then asked, "By the way, what's your plan for today and tomorrow?"

"Well, I would like to have some drinks with my old pals here in the city and visit the grave of my parents tomorrow."

Mofu said.

"Hey, don't forget about us." One of the other four companions said.

"How could I? Let's have a drink tonight." Mofu said.

"Mofu, stop drinking. You already had a drink in the afternoon today, and you want to have more at night. You are a General. A general should not drink more." One of the other companions, who smelled like wine, said.

"Look who is talking here... about not drinking." Kaizi said as he looked over at this guy.

The group laughed.

Meanwhile, Yan returned to Han Defu's barrack. He sat on the ground, closed his eyes, and absorbed spiritual qi.

Chen Yu sat beside him and cultivated as well.

"Do proper sit-ups."

"Keep your body steady."

Gwalior trained other members outside.

That afternoon, General Mofu ventured into the streets of Golden Eagle City alone.

He walked through the streets of Golden Eagle City.

The soldiers who roamed the streets, when they saw him, saluted.

As Mofu was walking, he saw an old man.

"Mofu," An old man smiled toward him.

"Uncle Qin," Mofu reached out to the old man. "How are you? You have gotten older. Are your legs still as fast as they were before?"

"You brat, whom are you calling old? Yes, my legs are still fast. Back then, I used to catch you in seconds whenever you tried to run away from your father." Old man Qin said.

"I remember." Mofu kept his head down.

Then Qin looked at his armor, the cloak, and said, "You have become a big man. Who would've thought the brat who used to wash clothes of random soldiers for a few silver would one day command an entire army?"

"Thank you, Uncle." Mofu said.

"But it's not my individual achievement. If not for many comrades of mine, I would not be alive here today and wearing this." Mofu looked toward the sky.

For a moment, several faces flashed through his mind.

"Anyway, come with me. Aunty Nagin will be happy to meet you." Old man Qin grabbed Mofu's hand.

"I can't. I want to meet my old buddies." Mofu said.

"You mean those other brats? No, you can't meet them."

"Why not?"

Old man Qin looked away.

"What happened? Are they alright?" Mofu grabbed the shoulders of Qin.

"Come with me." Old man Qin said as he started walking forward at a slow pace.

Mofu walked beside him. The old man was very slow at walking.

He took one step after every minute.

"Uncle Qin, you show the way. Let me carry you. We can fly." Mofu suggested.

"Mm... brat, do you think this old man's legs are non-functional? I am still good. I can walk myself." Old man Qin said.

Mofu shut his mouth and patiently followed behind Qin. Mofu occasionally clenched his fists.

Once he clenched his fists tightly and said, "Uncle Qin, I know you can walk, but it's faster to fly, or at least come on my back. Let me carry you."

"Shut up! Brat, my legs are still good, you understand? I won't let anyone babysit me. Generals are no exceptions either." Old man began to take two steps after two minutes now.

After about an hour, they crossed ten houses and stopped in front of a brothel.
