The light was the first thing Rhaevia noticed upon entering the planet’s atmosphere. It rose from the vast, restless ocean below in countless shimmering shades of turquoise and sapphire. The brilliant radiance illuminated the cloud layer from beneath, creating a soft, glowing canopy.

From orbit, the entire world had appeared as a uniform, silent blue marble. Now, as their expedition vessel descended steadily through the upper atmosphere, the truth revealed itself. She realized with awe that the ocean was alive with light.

Vast, luminous currents crossed the water’s surface like shifting rivers of stars. Beneath those radiant paths, enormous shadows moved gracefully through the depths. They occasionally disturbed the glowing waters, sending out gentle ripples that stretched for kilometers.

Rhaevia stood before the primary observation window of the command bridge. Her pale hands rested lightly against the reinforced frame as she studied the extraordinary landscape.

“Planetary composition?” she asked, her voice calm and authoritative.

A senior researcher immediately responded through the bridge command channel.

“The atmosphere is breathable after minimal atmospheric filtration. Surface temperatures are remarkably stable, and the ocean contains exceptionally high concentrations of energy-bearing minerals. We are detecting rich biological signatures throughout the upper water layers.”

“How dense are these readings?” Rhaevia inquired without turning around.

“Far denser than any known oceanic ecosystem in the official Imperial database,” the researcher reported promptly.

Raevor approached her side with measured steps. His striking silver eyes remained fixed on the glowing ocean stretching across the horizon below.

“An entire planet filled with unfamiliar lifeforms,” he observed, his deep voice carrying a subtle edge of caution. “And somewhere beneath all that water lies a research installation with a failing containment field.”

Rhaevia glanced sideways at him, a faint smile touching her lips. “You’re making it sound almost unpleasant, General.”

“I’m assessing the risks, Commander,” he replied smoothly.

“Of course you are,” she murmured softly.

Raevor’s mouth twitched slightly in an almost imperceptible smile. However, his attention soon returned entirely to the display in front of them.

Their expedition fleet was small, built for swift exploration rather than heavy conquest. It consisted of a primary research vessel, two heavily armed escort ships, and a small fleet of autonomous exploration drones.

The massive flagship remained in high orbit above. It maintained a stable resonance lock with both Rhaevia and Raevor while their smaller vessel carried them toward the coordinates embedded within the distress signal.

Their destination lay within an immense oceanic basin. The area was surrounded by towering natural formations of translucent mineral structures that shone with inner fire. According to the star map, the submerged research installation was located somewhere beneath this region.

Yet the first obstacle confronting them was not the sheer depth of the basin. It was the ocean itself.

“Commander, we are detecting unusual movement directly beneath the surface,” the navigation officer suddenly reported from his console. “Multiple massive biological signatures are approaching our projected flight path.”

Rhaevia turned smoothly toward the central display.

At her command, the first exploration drone descended into the water with a splash.

Its high-definition camera feed immediately revealed an underwater world unlike anything she had ever encountered before.

Transparent, glass-like creatures drifted gracefully through the upper currents. Their delicate bodies closely resembled intricate lanterns made of spun crystal.

Long, trailing ribbons of bioluminescent tissue floated behind them as they moved. These appendages shifted continuously between rich violet and pale gold in the clear water.

Dense schools of small, silver organisms darted between towering coral-like structures. They left brief, sparkling trails of light behind them like shooting stars in the dark.

Farther below, far past the reach of simple sunlight, enormous organisms glided lazily through the darkness. Some closely resembled gigantic manta rays with translucent wings spanning dozens of meters across.

Others possessed elongated, serpentine bodies covered entirely in thick crystalline plates. These natural armors reflected the ocean’s ambient radiance like polished gemstone mirrors.

None of these creatures appeared immediately aggressive toward the intruding machine.

In fact, several curious organisms began to follow the exploration drone. They observed the mechanical visitor with slow, inquisitively fluid movements.

Rhaevia leaned closer to the primary monitor, her dark eyes reflecting the soft glow of the screen.

“These are not ordinary marine organisms,” she murmured, her mind analyzing every movement. “Their biological bodies are actively interacting with the surrounding energy currents.”

“Could they be artificially modified samples?” Raevor asked, leaning in beside her.

“It is possible,” she answered thoughtfully. “The energy distribution pattern closely resembles the biological adaptations we previously documented in the Crystal Forest, though these underlying structures are noticeably different.”

She tapped the control panel to open a new bio-analysis window.

The ship’s automated system scanned the incoming data streams and rapidly outputted line after line of text.

[UNKNOWN MARINE SPECIES DETECTED.]

[BIOLOGICAL ENERGY CONVERSION: ACTIVE.]

[ENVIRONMENTAL RESONANCE: CONFIRMED.]

[ANCIENT GENETIC SIGNATURE: PARTIAL MATCH.]

Rhaevia’s expression darkened slightly as she read the final line.

“There is that exact signature again,” she noted, her tone growing cold.

The same biological patterns had previously appeared within the crystalline organisms and the modified Zerg samples. Their undeniable presence here suggested that the Sovereign civilization had conducted vast biological research across multiple distinct planetary ecosystems.

They had likely been searching for the common principles underlying life itself.

But why had this vibrant world been deliberately sealed away from the galaxy?

And why had its sole surviving researcher suddenly chosen to send out a distress signal now, after centuries of silence?

“Commander,” the communications officer interrupted, breaking her train of thought. “We have successfully established a stronger data connection with the submerged installation. The origin point of the signal lies approximately twelve thousand meters beneath the water’s surface.”

“Twelve thousand meters?” Raevor repeated, his brow furrowing slightly.

“The surrounding geological structures may provide natural access routes to greater depths,” the officer explained quickly. “However, our current descent vessel cannot withstand that degree of pressure without additional hull reinforcement.”

Rhaevia carefully examined the detailed holographic map of the oceanic terrain.

“We will not attempt to force our way down blindly,” she decided firmly. “Deploy the remaining research drones and map a safe descent route through the canyons. I want an assessment of this entire ecosystem before we make our approach toward the facility.”

“Understood, Commander,” the bridge crew responded in unison.

The remaining autonomous drones launched from the vessel’s lower bay. They spread outward across the water, their powerful sensor arrays illuminating the dark depths in overlapping active scans.

For several tense minutes, the expedition vessel held its position while the mapping process proceeded smoothly without incident.

Then, without any prior warning, every single active drone simultaneously registered a violent disturbance.

The ocean’s glowing currents abruptly altered their paths. They began flowing rapidly in a single, unified direction.

The rushing water was not moving toward the distant coastline.

It was not swirling downward into the deep ocean trenches either.

The entire sea was converging toward a single point located directly beneath their stationary vessel.

Rhaevia straightened her back instantly, her eyes widening.

“Halt the descent immediately,” she ordered.

The alert navigation officer reacted without hesitation. He slammed the thrusters into reverse, halting the vessel’s forward momentum dead in the water.

“What is happening?” Raevor demanded, stepping closer to the console.

“No physical collision detected, General,” the officer reported, his hands flying across his panel. “However, the ambient water pressure around our hull is changing at a terrifying rate.”

The central display flickered erratically under interference.

A single, massive biological signature suddenly appeared directly beneath the ship’s keel.

Then another reading instantly replaced it, expanding so rapidly across the screen that the ship’s computing system could no longer calculate its true physical dimensions.

[MASSIVE BIOLOGICAL SIGNATURE DETECTED.]

[DEPTH: UNKNOWN.]

[SIZE ESTIMATION: UNAVAILABLE.]

The entire expedition vessel shuddered violently as powerful water currents slammed into the hull.

Outside the reinforced observation window, the glowing, brilliant ocean abruptly went dark. Something impossibly colossal was passing just beneath the surface.

Rhaevia stared directly down into the sudden black abyss.

A shadow vastly larger than their flagship moved slowly beneath them. Its vast outline stretched far beyond the maximum detection range of every active sensor on board.

Then, the ocean floor itself seemed to rise upward to meet them.

[WARNING: UNKNOWN LIFEFORM APPROACHING.]

Far beneath the expedition ship, two colossal, luminous eyes slowly opened in the deep.
