The Trash Guide Awakens: The Youngest General's Hidden Wife
Chapter 27: One Move
The instant the countdown vanished from the holographic display, Kael moved.
He disappeared from his original position with explosive acceleration, leaving behind only a faint silver blur across the reinforced floor.
The surrounding spectator stands instantly erupted into chaotic shouting.
"He is going all out right from the start!" a senior cadet yelled, leaning over the safety railing.
"That is the physical speed of an S-rank enhancement user!" another student shouted, pointing wildly at the blur.
"She won’t even be able to see him coming!" a third added, shielding his eyes from the glare.
"Major General Veyr should step in and stop this match before she gets killed!" several freshmen wailed in panic.
Even the veteran combat instructors watching silently from the sidelines tensed their shoulders, their hands hovering near the emergency shutoff controls.
Kael’s dense, silver mental field compressed tightly around his tall body, reinforcing every single muscle fiber and motor nerve with massive kinetic energy. His first step cracked the reinforced combat tile beneath his boot, sending dust shooting into the air.
His explosive second step carried him directly into Rhaevia’s personal space, closing the distance in a fraction of a millisecond. His heavy fist was already drawn back, aiming directly for her jaw with terrifying momentum.
Too obvious, Rhaevia analyzed silently.
Her dark pupils contracted sharply as her hardened battlefield instincts calculated the trajectory. She did not raise her arms to block, nor did she attempt to construct a frantic energy barrier. She simply stood perfectly still, her posture entirely relaxed.
Kael’s arrogant expression twisted into a confident, triumphant grin as his fist closed in. He assumed she had completely frozen in sheer terror under his overwhelming pressure. His heavy, reinforced fist shot toward her face at sound-breaking speed.
At the absolute final second, when the wind of the strike was already blowing her dark hair back, Rhaevia shifted her weight. She moved only half a step to the right, a minimal, razor-thin adjustment. Nothing more, nothing less.
Kael’s glowing silver fist passed uselessly beside her cheek, hitting nothing but empty air.
The entire crowd in the observation tiers collectively gasped in utter shock.
"She dodged it!" someone shrieked from the upper stands.
However, Kael was an experienced S-rank prodigy, and he adjusted his attack sequence immediately. His shoulder rotated with fluid power, his right elbow following through with devastating speed.
A second, lethal strike came whipping upward from below, aimed directly at her exposed ribs. Rhaevia saw the entire strike pattern long before it ever materialized in physical space.
It was not because her newly unsealed Guide pathways were stronger than his physical field. It was certainly not because her fragile host body was naturally faster than an S-rank combatant.
It was because she had spent an entire previous lifetime on a ruined Earth fighting monstrous entities that were infinitely faster, stronger, and far more unpredictable than a sheltered academy student like Kael Rivenhart.
She had fought relentless zombie hordes. She had faced mutated alien beasts in the wasteland. She had slain ruthless raiders in cold blood. She had stood toe-to-toe with the terrifying Zombie King himself.
In the bloody fires of true survival, she had learned long ago that high-level combat was never about reacting to an attack after it was launched. It was about reading the subtle physical decisions that occurred seconds before the muscle even contracted.
Kael’s tense shoulders had already revealed his next rotational axis. His hips had subtly shifted to transfer his weight, his center of gravity had dropped two inches, and his eyes had briefly flickered toward her left flank.
There, she identified his absolute blind spot.
Rhaevia stepped directly inside his sweeping attack path, closing the distance rather than retreating. Her slender, gloved hand shot forward like a striking cobra, her fingers clamping tightly around his driving wrist.
The entire multi-tiered arena seemed to instantly hold its breath, plunging into a dead, suffocating silence.
Kael’s glowing eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated horror as his forward momentum ground to a sudden halt. "What...?" he choked out.
Rhaevia twisted her hips. It was not a violent, wild struggle, nor was it a dramatic display of raw strength. It was an act of pure, terrifying mechanical precision.
She flawlessly redirected the overwhelming kinetic momentum of his own forward charge, stepped smoothly behind his center of gravity, and drove her shoulder hard against his exposed arm joint while violently pulling his wrist downward toward the floor.
Kael’s balance vanished completely. His enormous S-rank physical strength suddenly became entirely useless against basic leverage and spatial geometry. His heavy body was lifted off its feet and flipped helplessly through the air.
BOOM!
His body slammed violently onto the hard tiles of the combat platform, the sheer kinetic impact echoing through the vast facility like a cannon shot.
The entire academy training arena went utterly, completely silent.
Fine grey dust drifted lazily through the air above the ring.
Kael lay completely motionless on his back for several long seconds, his eyes wide and unblinking as he stared blankly up at the high ceiling lights. His brilliant silver mental field flickered erratically twice, sparked with weak static, and then vanished entirely.
Rhaevia calmly released his bruised wrist, stepped back, and smoothed down the front of her dark uniform with her palms.
One move.
That was all it had taken.
The thousands of spectators packed into the observation tiers simply could not process or comprehend what they had just witnessed with their own eyes.
A celebrated S-rank student prodigy had just been utterly dismantled and slammed into the dirt by an allegedly weak, inexperienced 3S Guide in less than ten seconds.
High up in the upper tiers, a senior cadet finally whispered, his voice trembling violently, "She didn’t overpower him with energy..."
Another student beside him swallowed hard, his face pale as chalk. "She predicted every single one of his movement before he even made it..."
The chilling realization spread through the packed arena like an electric shock wave.
Along the sidelines, the senior combat instructors stared at Rhaevia with expressions ranging from total disbelief to absolute, profound astonishment.
Kael slowly, painfully pushed himself upright on the cracked tiles, gasping for air as blood trickled from his lip. His face was deathly pale, his arrogant pride having been shattered far more thoroughly than his physical frame.
Rhaevia didn’t even bother looking down at him.
Instead, she turned her body toward the sprawling observation tiers where thousands of students sat frozen. She calmly scanned the silent crowd, her dark eyes completely flat and unbothered.
Then, her cold gaze brought its focus to rest directly on the group of elite challengers gathered near the arena entrance gates.
Her expression remained completely indifferent, her voice carrying effortlessly through the dead quiet room:
"Is there anyone else?"
