The Trash Guide Awakens: The Youngest General's Hidden Wife
Chapter 51: After the Awakening
For several tense, agonizing minutes, not a single soul on Planet V-17 dared to move. High above the clouds, the massive Imperial fleet remained rigidly suspended in high orbit.
Thousands of heavily armored military vessels completely encircled the once-barren world like a cold, metallic cage. No starship dared to open fire. No commander dared to initiate a quantum warp jump to leave.
Directly below the war fleet, the ancient formation continued to emit a soft, rhythmic glow from deep beneath the planetary crust. Yet, unlike the terrifying, suffocating pressure that had previously crushed the atmosphere, the chaotic energy had entirely vanished.
The violent, unstable fluctuations in the planetary mantle had finally settled into quiet equilibrium. Planet V-17 was stable, at least for the time being.
Rhaevia stood motionlessly at the outer edge of the glowing formation, her dark pupils staring out toward the horizon. The desolate, empty landscape she had encountered during her initial drop was gone forever.
Towering obsidian pillars still rose from the earth, their glassy surfaces covered in unfamiliar, pulsating crimson symbols. Faint threads of blue-white energy flowed smoothly through the cracked bedrock, resembling luminous veins pulsing beneath biological skin.
This world had never been a dead wasteland. It had merely been sleeping under high-level suppression fields for over three centuries. And somehow, through an impossible resonance of soul and core, it had awakened specifically for her.
Rhaevia slowly lowered her eyes, staring silently down at her pale, slender hands. On the surface, nothing about her physical appearance looked different. Yet, deep within her soul, every single aspect of her existence had undergone a profound transformation.
Her Guide core no longer felt like the fragile, heavily suppressed crystal she had carried since stepping into this interstellar body. It felt immense, vast, and terrifyingly deep. It felt like a sleeping cosmic entity resting behind a heavy iron door that she had only partially opened.
What exactly am I in this universe? The persistent thought lingered heavily in her mind, raising questions that defied her memories of Earth.
Before she could process her internal state, the rhythmic crunch of boots against gravel echoed from behind. She did not need to turn around to recognize the steady, imposing approach.
Raevor came to a halt directly beside her, his tall frame blocking the cold planetary wind. For a long moment, neither of them spoke a word, letting the heavy quiet wash over the plateau.
His dark blue military uniform was still caked in thick dust and dried Zerg blood from the preceding siege. A faint, jagged cut lined his jawline, yet his strict profile remained as unshakeably calm as ever.
Rhaevia broke the silence, her gaze shifting back toward the crowded sky.
"The fleet is still lingering above us," she noted softly.
"They won’t leave," Raevor replied, his answer coming without a second of hesitation.
Rhaevia turned her head slightly to look at him. "Why?"
"Because you are the sole reason they mobilized in the first place," Raevor answered flatly. His dark, piercing eyes remained fixed entirely on the Imperial flagship hovering above.
"Your active classification is still completely undefined by standard protocol. The military board cannot determine whether you are an elite 3S Guide, an entity far beyond 3S, or something their measurement technology simply cannot process."
Rhaevia’s brows furrowed into a sharp line. "So they intend to isolate and observe me."
"Among other, far more invasive things," Raevor confirmed coldly.
She understood the implicit danger immediately. The Imperial military had never possessed a gentle curiosity for anomaly, especially regarding something capable of awakening a buried planetary protocol.
The heavy crunch of footsteps sounded once more as a contingent of senior academy officers approached the edge of the platform. The acting commander halted several meters away, his posture rigid as he offered a crisp military salute.
"Lady Rhaevia," the officer announced, his voice tense.
Rhaevia turned her shoulders to face the delegation fully.
The acting commander swallowed nervously before speaking again. "The academy command node has just received direct, priority instructions from Imperial High Command."
Rhaevia raised an eyebrow. "What orders?"
The commander hesitated, his eyes darting briefly toward the Major General before returning to her. "You are strictly forbidden from leaving Planet V-17."
Rhaevia’s dark eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. "Excuse me?"
"Until your neural status and rank parameters are formally determined, the academy board has been instructed to retain you under absolute protective custody," the commander explained stiffly.
Protective custody, it was merely a polished, bureaucratic phrase for imprisonment.
Rhaevia slowly crossed her arms over her chest, her posture radiating battle-hardened steel.
"I am an academy cadet, not a prisoner to be locked in a cell," she stated flatly.
"We fully understand your stance, Cadet," the commander replied.
"Then release the transport clearances and let me pass," she countered smoothly.
The commander’s expression turned thoroughly uncomfortable. "We physically cannot override High Command’s seal."
Before Rhaevia could press the matter further, Raevor took a single, deliberate step forward, shielding her with his broad shoulders.
"You won’t need to," he declared, his deep voice carrying absolute, unquestionable authority.
The academy commander blinked in surprise, looking at the youngest Major General in history.
Raevor’s strict posture did not waver by a single millimeter. "I am taking total personal responsibility for her safety and her actions."
A suffocating, heavy silence fell over the platform. Even Rhaevia found herself staring up at his side profile in genuine surprise.
"General..." the commander stammered, his face losing its color.
Raevor did not turn his head. "She is officially under my protection."
The commander’s tone shifted from bureaucratic authority to pure anxiety. "Major General Veyr, that unilateral decision directly conflicts with Imperial High Command’s explicit directive! You could be formally accused of interfering with an active Level Black Imperial investigation!"
"I am well aware," Raevor replied flatly.
"And if her unclassified abilities become volatile or unstable--"
"I will handle it," Raevor interrupted smoothly. His declaration was so completely devoid of hesitation that the acting commander fell entirely silent, unable to construct a counterargument.
Rhaevia stared silently at the sharp angle of his jaw. He is truly doing this, she realized.
She understood the staggering weight behind his words better than anyone else present. Raevor was not merely offering a polite military guard.
He was intentionally placing his entire rank, his military authority, and his formidable reputation directly between her and the highest political powers in the galaxy.
As the youngest Major General in the long history of the Empire, he had spent his entire life building his position through relentless discipline and blood-soaked battlefields.
A single treasonous misstep against High Command could instantly strip him of everything he had earned. It would destroy his rank, his command over the fleet, his career, and likely his personal freedom.
"Raevor," she said quietly, her clear voice cutting through his thoughts.
He finally turned his head, his dark, piercing eyes locking directly onto hers.
"You shouldn’t do this," Rhaevia stated firmly, her dark pupils searching his face.
"I know," Raevor answered without a second of delay.
Rhaevia pressed her lips together. "Then why?"
Raevor’s dark eyes softened almost imperceptibly, the cold, rigid mask of a general melting away for a fraction of a second.
"Because you shouldn’t have to face this universe alone," he replied softly.
Rhaevia felt a sudden, sharp tightness in her chest. She involuntarily broke eye contact, looking down at the ancient metallic earth beneath her boots.
For some inexplicable reason, those simple, unadorned words affected her far more deeply than any grand, theatrical declaration of military protection ever could. In her previous life on a dying Earth, she had commanded vast armies.
Thousands of desperate soldiers had executed her orders without question. People had called her General, saluted her posture, and depended entirely on her strategic decisions to survive another day.
Yet, when her life finally faded away on that blood-soaked battlefield, there had been no one standing beside her. She had died in absolute, freezing isolation.
Now, in this strange, technological galaxy where she had never truly felt she belonged, a powerful man was willingly putting his entire life’s work on the line for her sake.
Why go to such extreme lengths? Rhaevia lowered her eyelids slightly.
She did not know the exact second Raevor had transformed from a suspicious military officer into someone she could trust with her life. But she knew one fundamental truth above all else: she would not allow his stellar career to be destroyed on her account.
"We will find another way through this," she said quietly, looking back up with battle-tested resolve.
Raevor’s gaze remained steadily fixed on her face. "There will always be another way," he agreed.
A faint, genuine smile appeared on Rhaevia’s lips. For the very first time since her violent awakening, the overwhelming, suffocating uncertainty lingering within her chest eased.
BZZZZT!
Every single tactical communicator, wrist terminal, and planetary monitoring console across V-17 activated simultaneously with a deafening electronic hum.
Rhaevia’s faint smile instantly vanished as her commander instincts flared. Raevor spun on his heel, stepping swiftly toward the nearest tactical terminal embedded in an escort ship’s landing gear.
The primary projection screen flickered violently. Harsh white static filled the surrounding air before the display abruptly altered its output. A solid, pitch-black background materialized across every device on the planet.
There was no Imperial military emblem, no noble house crest, and no standard administrative insignia displayed. Only a single, stark classification code burned in glowing white light across the glass:
[LEVEL BLACK]
The acting academy commander went completely pale, staggering back half a step in sheer terror. Raevor’s handsome face hardened into lethal stone, his dark pupils contracting into pinpricks. Rhaevia stood her ground, her sharp gaze scanning the black screen as a string of text materialized.
[LEVEL BLACK AUTHORIZATION CONFIRMED.]
A second line of automated text unspooled directly beneath the first.
[ALL RECORDS CONCERNING RHAEVIA RYTHUNDEIR HAVE BEEN SEALED.]
Raevor’s eyes narrowed into dangerous, icy slits as he attempted to trace the override signal. Before his fingers could input a bypass script, the terminal went completely black, cutting all diagnostic feeds.
And for the very first time since stepping into this interstellar era, Rhaevia realized the chilling truth, someone operating at the absolute apex of galactic power already knew precisely what she was.
