The massive vault doors completed their retreat with a deep, metallic groan that echoed off the structural bulkheads. Cold, stagnant air rushed out from the dark doorway, carrying the subtle tang of long-pressurized metal.

Rhaevia stood directly behind her father, her hand instinctively coming up to rest over the center of her chest. Her guide core was throbbing in sharp, rhythmic pulses, beating like a frantic second heart within her ribs.

"It’s reacting to this place," her mother whispered, her voice barely carrying over the hum of the flagship’s primary reactors.

Her father gave a single, solemn nod without turning around. "That is precisely why this vault was sealed by our ancestors so long ago."

They stepped across the threshold together. The moment Rhaevia’s boot touched the inner floor, ancient, long-dormant conduits began awakening sequentially along the perimeter.

A faint blue light spread across the high, vaulted ceiling, casting stark shadows across the unfamiliar architecture. Unlike the sleek modern paneling of the Rythundeir vessel, these walls were constructed from an unyielding black alloy etched with silver inscriptions.

Thin lines of crimson energy pulsed along channels in the floor, disappearing beneath the solid bulkheads like blood flowing through mechanical veins. The entire chamber felt less like an ordinary storage room and more like a heart powering a massive, forgotten system.

At the very center of the room stood an enormous stone pedestal carved from dark, mineral-rich rock. Resting within its metallic cradle was a suspended crystalline artifact that drew everyone’s immediate focus.

Rhaevia’s breath caught in her throat as she stepped nearer to examine the object. It was not a standard Guide core like the ones manufactured by modern imperial laboratories.

The crystal was nearly the size of a human heart, hovering weightlessly inside a floating ring of ancient silver metal. Its outer shell was perfectly transparent, yet deep within its core swirled three distinct, luminous energies.

Azure, crimson, and silver threads rotated in a slow, continuous dance, weaving around one another without merging completely. Rhaevia found herself unable to break her gaze, her mind instantly recognizing the signature frequencies humming from the glass.

It was her own mental aura, fused alongside the distinct physical signature of Raevor, and bound together by a third, far older presence.

"That relic..." Duchess Rythundeir murmured softly, stepping up beside her daughter with wide, disbelieving eyes. "I’ve seen detailed sketches of this exact object hidden within the deepest layers of our family’s private archives."

Duke Rythundeir approached the base of the pedestal, scanning the silver symbols carved into the stone. "The ancient records called it the Sovereign Relic, though none of the surviving texts explained its true function."

Rhaevia slowly moved closer, her fingers hovering just inches above the floating metal ring. "Why was something like this kept hidden from the rest of the Empire for centuries?"

Her father didn’t answer immediately, tracing one of the glowing crimson grooves with the tip of his finger. His jaw tightened as the silver inscriptions flared softly against his touch.

"Because our ancestors were not merely passive historical observers," her father said, his low voice carrying a heavy weight.

Rhaevia turned her head to look at him, her eyebrows drawing together. "What do you mean by that?"

He lifted his hand from the pedestal, looking down at his worn, calloused palm. "They served them directly."

A silence descended over the vault, unbroken even by the subtle hum of the ship’s environmental systems.

"The Sovereigns," Duke Rythundeir clarified, turning his stern gaze toward Rhaevia. "Our bloodline did not simply stumble upon these artifacts after the ancient civilization fell. The Rythundeir family served the Sovereign pair directly as their appointed guardians."

Rhaevia felt her pulse spike, the realization settling heavily into her thoughts. Across the room, her mother stepped toward a secondary panel set into the far wall.

"This entire vault is not a historical archive meant to store family heirlooms," her mother said, brushing a thin layer of dust away from an ancient crest. "It is a record of solemn duty."

As her mother’s fingers cleared the central symbol, the ancient alloy responded instantly, flashing with brilliant azure light. A wide holographic projection erupted from the top of the pedestal, filling the upper half of the vault with soft, flickering light.

Intricate three-dimensional figures materialized in the air, depicting figures dressed in ceremonial star armor. At the center of the projection stood a tall woman possessing the distinct, radiant aura of a Sovereign Guide.

Surrounding her were the leaders of several ancestral families kneeling in formal allegiance. Prominently displayed upon the chest plates of one specific group was the crimson dragon emblem of the Rythundeir house.

Rhaevia stared up at the projection, her eyes wide as the ancient figures shifted into motion. The central Sovereign Guide raised her hand, resting it upon the head of the Rythundeir patriarch.

Her voice echoed through the vault, filtering through the ancient speakers in a language that should have been incomprehensible, yet resonated clearly in Rhaevia’s mind. "Protect the bloodline until the awakening."

The holographic scene dissolved into another historical record, shifting to display an intimate, dimly lit chamber. An ancient Rythundeir ancestor was shown receiving a wrapped newborn child directly from the hands of the Sovereign’s personal guards.

A line of glowing text manifested beneath the projection, translating the ancient record into standard military script.

[GUARDIAN LINEAGE ESTABLISHED.]

Rhaevia felt the air leave her lungs, her mind struggling to process the sheer scale of the revelation.

"Their primary directive was never just about preserving forgotten knowledge or collecting rare star metals," her father said, his eyes scanning the glowing text. "They were explicitly ordered to safeguard the future Sovereign."

Rhaevia looked at her father, her throat dry. "The future sovereign?"

Her mother gave a slow, somber nod, stepping closer to her husband’s side. "It appears the ancient Sovereigns foresaw the collapse of their civilization and knew their primary ruler would eventually vanish from the galaxy."

The holographic projection continued to cycle through thousands of years of recorded history at high speed. Generations passed in blinks of light, showing children growing into warriors, ancient starships changing designs, and catastrophic galactic wars destroying entire star systems.

Through every crisis, the Rythundeir line remained intact, guarding their sealed vaults and passing down heavily encrypted protocols from parent to child.

Always protecting something hidden from the rest of the world, always waiting for a signal, yet gradually losing the explicit truth as centuries blurred into millennia.

Rhaevia’s fingers trembled against her side as she stared at the glowing historical data. "All this time..."

She looked back and forth between her mother and father, her voice barely above a whisper. "My family has been waiting for me?"

Her mother stepped forward, placing a gentle hand on Rhaevia’s shoulder. "We cannot know for certain whether our distant ancestors knew your exact name or face across the centuries."

She paused, looking down at the heart-shaped crystal suspended in the air. "But they knew they were guarding a bloodline that would eventually bring forth the Sovereign once more."

Her father nodded in agreement, his expression dark and contemplative. "They were preserving a line so that someone would eventually return to claim what was lost."

The depth of the words struck Rhaevia far harder than any political decree from the Imperial Palace ever could. She thought back to her childhood in this life, remembering the endless, unexplained protection her family had offered her.

She remembered her father’s silent, obsessive insistence on running routine diagnostic checks on her mental core, ensuring it remained undamaged despite her initial E-rank classification.

She remembered her mother’s quiet comfort and the way her three brothers would physically block the view of mocking nobles whenever she walked through the imperial capital.

Even when the rest of the interstellar nobility dismissed her as a useless weakling who inherited none of her parents’ talent, her family had never once abandoned her or treated her like trash.

It had not been mere random luck or blind familial affection driving their desperate need to protect her. The ancient, ingrained duty of the Rythundeir bloodline had survived within their very DNA, quietly guiding their actions long after their conscious minds had forgotten the original mandate.

Protect the daughter.

Protect the Sovereign.

Rhaevia felt a sudden, fierce heat behind her eyes, her Guide core pulsing in deep, warm harmony with the room. "You were protecting me even when nobody knew what I was..."

Her mother squeezed her shoulder gently, her smile warm and filled with pride. "Our family has been standing guard over you for much longer than any of us ever realized."

Without warning, Rhaevia’s Guide core surged violently, sending a sharp wave of raw energy rushing outward through her limbs. The suspended crystal reacted instantly to her mental surge, letting out a deep, resonant tone that vibrated through the metal floorboards.

WHAM.

A blinding wave of azure energy exploded from the center of the pedestal, expanding across the vault in an instant. Rhaevia stumbled backward from the sudden atmospheric pressure, her heels catching against the metal trim of the floor.

Raevor moved in a blur, his heavy hand catching her upper arm to stabilize her before she could fall. "Rhaevia!"

"I’m fine," she gasped, steadying her footing against his firm grip as she looked back toward the pedestal.

The central crystal was glowing with an intense, blinding radiance that forced everyone to shield their eyes. Crimson energy suddenly burst out from the center of the crystal, wrapping tightly around the original azure light.

A second later, bright silver energy erupted from the metal ring, interweaving with the other two forces in a rapid, complex sequence.

It was the undeniable energy signature that had manifested when Rhaevia and Raevor achieved their impossible one-hundred-percent resonance on the planet below.

Her mother stared at the display in shock, her hand coming up to cover her mouth. "It recognizes you."

Rhaevia took a slow, deliberate step forward, pulling gently away from Raevor’s hold as she approached the pedestal once more. With every step she took toward the stone structure, the relic’s pulse grew faster and more harmonious.

The ancient silver rings suspended around the crystal began rotating at incredible speeds, humming with anti-gravitational force. Silver text began streaming rapidly across the black alloy walls, illuminating the entire vault in rapid succession.

[GUARDIAN LINEAGE CONFIRMED.]

[SOVEREIGN BLOODLINE: UNVERIFIED.]

Rhaevia’s heart pounded against her ribs as she watched the ancient system process her presence. The floating crystal suddenly flared, sending a beam of pure light straight into the ceiling, where it expanded into a massive, rotating ancient symbol.

[SOUL SIGNATURE DETECTED.]

Her eyes widened as the ancient script abruptly shifted, clearing away the standard diagnostic text. Every member of the Rythundeir family stood frozen, watching the light reconfigure itself in the center of the room.

The final inscription was not written in the modern language of the Empire, nor did it match standard military codes. Yet, as the glowing characters burned brightly against the black wall of the vault, the meaning resonated directly within Rhaevia’s mind.

"THE QUEEN WILL RETURN."

Rhaevia stopped breathing, her gaze locked onto the glowing words hovering in the air.

The central relic let out one final, profound pulse, and in response, every single ancient symbol carved into the vault walls ignited with blinding, eternal light.
