Chapter 188: Turns Out There’s a Big Green Tea Too
Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Turns Out There’s a Big Green Tea Too
A muscle in Mrs. York’s eye twitched uncontrollably. She was seething with rage.
So after all she had said, Christian still thought the person Thea was going to marry was Ethan Sloan?!
Did that mean all those things she’d just said, which she thought were provoking Christian, hadn’t registered with him at all?
Ethan Sloan was ancient! How could he possibly be worthy of Thea!
The man Thea was going to marry was Nathaniel Sloan! Nathaniel!
Mrs. York was exasperated. "Christian Sloan! What nonsense are you spouting? Ethan Sloan is an old man! Are you trying to insult Thea!"
Zachery tilted his head, a meaningful glint in his eyes. "Hmm? So you’re saying, Aunt York, that the person getting married isn’t Grandpa?"
Mrs. York shot back without thinking, "Of course not!"
Zachery asked slowly, "Then who is it?"
Mrs. York, still hot-headed, blurted out, "Of course it’s—"
"Could it be my daddy?" Zachery interjected ominously.
"But Daddy and Mommy have a great relationship. They’ve never talked about getting a divorce, and they have three children. Aunt York... I heard you have a fiancé, so why are you now saying you want to marry my daddy?"
Mrs. York was about to die from anger and blurted out, "Of course it’s Nathaniel! Besides Nathaniel, who else is worthy of our Thea!"
"So it really is Daddy," Zachery said, feigning confusion. "Mrs. York, don’t you know that my daddy is married?"
Mrs. York snorted. "It’s not my place to say, Christian, but think about your mommy’s status. Is she worthy of Nathaniel? Of course not! So what if they’re married? They’ll just have to get a divorce in the end!"
Zachery smiled slowly.
Before he came, the Young Master had told him a few things about the York Family. He knew that Mrs. York and Thea York had forced the original wife to her death and driven away her biological daughter to secure their own positions.
"Mrs. York, my mommy and daddy are married. If Aunt York gets involved again, that makes her the mistress."
Who knew that upon hearing this, Mrs. York would instantly explode. "What mistress?! Stop your damned nonsense, or I’ll rip your mouth off!"
Zachery nimbly leaped onto the sofa. Mrs. York gave chase, and he ran.
After a few laps, Mrs. York was panting. "You... you..."
"Mrs. York, I’m not the one talking nonsense. Aunt York said it. Aunt York said that she’s a person of principle and would never be a mistress..."
Thea’s throat tightened. She suddenly realized something, and just as she expected, she saw ’Christian’ start to reach into his pocket.
Then, he pulled out a small recording pen.
Just then, the housekeeper returned with the maids. Mrs. York didn’t know what was on the recording pen, but Thea knew perfectly well!
’That’s the recording from last time at Evernight International, the one that little bastard Mia Lockwood made!’
’Some of the York family’s servants are still loyal to that dead bitch and Stella York, so I absolutely cannot let that recording be played here!’
But Zachery had already pressed the button.
Thea York’s voice came from the recording pen—
"I’m Nathaniel’s good friend! How could I possibly steal his woman?"
"Nathaniel and I grew up together. If we were going to get together, it would have happened long ago. Why wait until now?"
"I would never have improper thoughts about Nathaniel! I will never be the third party and interfere in someone else’s marriage."
...
Mrs. York was dumbfounded.
Zachery put away the recording pen and said slowly, "Aunt York, have you already forgotten the words spoken just a few days ago?"
Right at that moment, the housekeeper looked over.
Years ago, the housekeeper had received kindness from the original Mrs. York. The fact that Stella York could still get a piece of the pie from the struggling York Group, within the difficult York Family, was partly to the housekeeper’s credit.
But she was just a housekeeper and couldn’t interfere in Chairman York’s family matters. However, now that an opportunity had presented itself, she wasn’t going to let it go. She wanted to help the original Mrs. York and Miss Stella get a measure of justice!
"You must be Young Mr. Christian, correct?" The housekeeper stepped forward, greeted him respectfully, and then said with a faint, knowing smile, "Young Mr. Christian may not be aware, but as the old saying goes: a dragon sires a dragon, a phoenix sires a phoenix, and a rat’s child will know how to dig holes."
"Someone who was a mistress herself, wouldn’t she hope her own daughter would become a mistress too?"
Mrs. York’s face turned ashen. "Shut your mouth!"
The housekeeper ignored her completely, still smiling as she looked at Zachery. "So, Young Mr. Christian, trying to reason with them is pointless."
Zachery’s eyes lit up. ’Damn, looks like this housekeeper is on my side!’
He quickly feigned distress. "I just didn’t expect it. The things Aunt York admitted in public... she’s forgotten them completely now. My mommy and daddy have been married for so long..."
The housekeeper nodded. "Young Mr. Christian, please rest assured. I will inform Mr. Sloan about this matter. Coincidentally, Mr. Sloan should be at the company right now. I’ll send someone over immediately to explain exactly what happened."
’Go to the company and say Thea wants to become a mistress and usurp the wife?’ Mrs. York’s mind went blank for a second. "You dare?!"
Mrs. York’s eyes darted around, a picture of guilt and anxiety.
’Thea is the only one worthy of Nathaniel! But if this gets out, people will just call Thea a mistress! What mistress? The one who isn’t loved is the mistress! That bitch who occupied the position of Mrs. York back then, *she* was the mistress!’
’But... but she also knew that if she really let the housekeeper cause a scene at Evernight International, Thea’s reputation would be ruined!’
The housekeeper said with a sigh of resignation, "Ma’am, I just can’t bear to see a family be destroyed. I wasn’t able to stop you back then, so now I must do what I can to save another family, correct?"
"Housekeeper, you’ve misunderstood," Thea said, stepping forward with a slight nod. "I didn’t mean that. It was my mother who misunderstood."
"She has always wanted me to have a good future, but she keeps forgetting the fact that Nathaniel is already married. Besides, I don’t have those kinds of feelings for Nathaniel."
Thea was bleeding internally, but her face still wore that gentle and serene expression. "I’m Nathaniel’s good friend. How could I have that kind of thought about him? Christian, please don’t take it to heart, okay?"
"Miss York, can we take your guarantee seriously this time?" Suddenly, a cool female voice drifted over.
Everyone turned instinctively. Thea’s expression changed—
Mrs. Kendrick, Estelle Lockwood, and Nathaniel Sloan were standing at the door. No one knew how long they had been there.
Estelle Lockwood coolly lifted her gaze. "It seems Miss York’s guarantees are never worth anything."
"Estelle, I..." Thea’s heart tightened. ’I can’t let Nathaniel grow distant from me at a time like this!’
She took a deep breath. "Estelle, you’ve really misunderstood! Nathaniel, you know I don’t have those kinds of feelings for you. Please, explain it to Estelle. Don’t let your relationship be damaged because of me."
Mrs. York also came to her senses, schooling her furious expression. "Oh, Nathaniel, it’s a misunderstanding, a complete misunderstanding! I got it all wrong! You can’t blame Thea for this! Ah, it’s my fault, really. I’m always jumping to conclusions. Everyone was saying Miss Lockwood isn’t good enough for you, and I actually believed them! Look at me, so foolish! Ah!"
Estelle Lockwood raised an eyebrow.
’No wonder a little conniver like Thea York could push out the true heiress, Stella York. Turns out, there’s a master conniver backing her up.’
