The Triplets My Ex Never Knew About
Chapter 207: The Three Little Ones Discuss Countermeasures
Chapter 207: Chapter 207: The Three Little Ones Discuss Countermeasures
Nathaniel Sloan did indeed think so.
Or perhaps, Nathaniel had always thought so.
He smiled faintly. "Mrs. Sloan, do you happen to know why the Lancasters burned all of Miranda Lancaster’s photos and portraits?"
The Lancaster family was once incredibly prominent. More than twenty years ago, Yvonne Lancaster socialized everywhere under the title of a Lancaster heiress, and her face was in the entertainment news every day. However, everyone was always more interested in the elder Miss Lancaster.
So, Miranda Lancaster also had photos taken by reporters.
Later, Chairman Lancaster spent a fortune to destroy all of Miranda’s images and photos on the internet.
The Lancasters’ official story was that they did it because they were too heartbroken over Miranda’s death, but if you thought about it for a moment, you’d realize the logic didn’t hold up at all.
So, the real reason was...
"The real reason," Nathaniel smiled, "is that I look remarkably similar to Miss Lancaster."
Estelle Lockwood understood. At first, Nathaniel probably wasn’t entirely certain that he wasn’t Laura Jennings’ son, but rather Miranda Lancaster’s child.
But he had no proof—not until he saw Miranda’s photograph.
How could the mistress’s son look so remarkably similar to the original wife? That, combined with Laura Jennings’s various actions, was what allowed Nathaniel to confirm his suspicions.
Estelle pursed her lips. "If that’s the case, have you never thought about exposing them?"
A smile played on Nathaniel’s lips. "I’ve thought about it. But I’m not in a hurry. Now isn’t the time."
This lie was a massive web woven by both the Sloan and Lancaster families. When everyone around you is telling lies, no one cares about the truth anymore.
Nathaniel could expose the truth, but Estelle knew just by thinking about it that the Sloans and Lancasters would join forces to suppress the news. If they couldn’t suppress it, they could still sling mud at Nathaniel.
—The Lancaster family is Miss Lancaster’s maternal family. If Nathaniel were truly Miss Lancaster’s son, would they really just stand by and do nothing?
That argument could be used countless times, and it was indeed effective.
’And the Lancaster family—they’re utterly shameless! It was bad enough that they favored the illegitimate daughter and made the true heiress marry in her place. But then they didn’t even care that their daughter died under mysterious circumstances, and now they’re treating Miranda’s biological son like this!’
’I refuse to believe that no one in the Lancaster family noticed Nathaniel’s resemblance to Miranda. If they really hadn’t noticed, why destroy the photos?’
Noticing the indignation in Estelle’s eyes, Nathaniel remained calm.
"Their hatred for Miranda might be one reason. But the most important factor is that Laura Jennings’s plan succeeded back then."
Estelle narrowed her eyes.
Nathaniel gave a humorless smile. "I was by Laura Jennings’s side from the moment I was born. Regardless of what methods she used, she succeeded in stealing me away from the care of the Lancasters."
"Afterward, the Lancasters took Theodore Lancaster. It doesn’t matter what his identity is—whether he’s Laura Jennings’s biological son or an orphan the Lancasters found. None of that is important. What’s important is—"
"By that point, I was already the ’illegitimate son.’ Even if the Lancasters knew I was Miss Lancaster’s biological child, they wouldn’t have done a thing. Otherwise, what would become of their reputation?"
That was right. If word got out that a great family like the Lancasters couldn’t even protect their own grandson and had been played for fools by a mistress, how could they ever show their faces again?
So they decided to just go along with the mistake. They didn’t care about Miranda anyway. If her son died, he died. That would conveniently eliminate any possibility of him revealing the truth.
And so...
The true young master became an illegitimate son, while Theodore Lancaster—who was perhaps the actual illegitimate one—usurped his place. The mistress, the scumbag husband, and the original wife’s family all lived happily ever after. In the end, only Miranda paid with her life, and only Nathaniel was left hurt.
Perhaps Old Mr. Lancaster never intended to torture his own grandson, nor did he want him to die. But none of that mattered anymore. Things had already reached this point, and the Lancaster family’s reputation was what mattered most.
...
「Meanwhile, in the private room.」
The three little ones were led to the private room by a waiter. After waiting for a while, they still hadn’t seen their Daddy and Mommy arrive.
Zachery couldn’t sit still and went out for a stroll. He was happy when he left, but returned with a sullen look on his face.
"I heard someone bad-mouthing Daddy!"
Christian immediately sat up straight. "What happened?"
The estate was very large and elegant. Zachery had just taken a walk down a small path full of flowers, and that was when he heard some people talking.
"That plot of land is going up for auction. What if Nathaniel Sloan refuses to give it up?"
"He’s just an illegitimate son. Who is he to refuse?"
"If you ask me, it’s fine to let Nathaniel win the auction for that land. He’s an illegitimate son who shouldn’t be enjoying so many resources anyway. Once he gets it, we can just force him to transfer the rights to Theodore. Won’t that solve everything?"
"Nathaniel is just too greedy! He knows he owes Theodore, he knows he’s usurped Theodore’s position for all these years. Even Laura Jennings has the heart to repent, but Nathaniel shows no remorse at all!"
"Theodore, I don’t think you should be polite anymore. Isn’t Nathaniel Sloan right here in Dewdrop Garden? Let’s go over there directly. If he refuses to give it up, we’ll just make a scene and see if he still has any face to lose!"
"Exactly, exactly! That land is worth ten billion, which is a bit pricey. Why not just make Nathaniel buy it and gift it to Theodore? That’s what he should be doing in the first place!"
...
Zachery’s cheeks were puffed out in anger. As he relayed the conversation, he even censored it a little. After all, Mommy had said that Mia and Christian were still too young to hear swear words, so he left all the bad words out!
The things those people said were much filthier! Truly unspeakable!
Christian was the most level-headed. He knew what "that land" Zachery was talking about. It was a plot appraised at over ten billion, and their Daddy had already negotiated the price. All that was left was to sign the contract!
How could they be so shameless!
Mia rested her chin in her hands, her eyes darting about. The other day when her mommy was on the phone with Grandma Kendrick, she had been right next to Grandma Kendrick listening in. So she knew what kind of trash the Lancaster family was, and she also knew there was something very wrong with that Theodore Lancaster’s identity.
’So the scam didn’t work, and now they’re resorting to robbery? Is that it?’
Mia’s eyes lit up. "I have an idea."
...
When Estelle Lockwood and Nathaniel Sloan entered the private room, the three little ones were all sweet smiles, as if they knew nothing.
Just as two dishes were served, a commotion suddenly erupted outside. Mia’s eyes twinkled, and she shot a look at Zachery.
Sure enough, the next moment, the door to the room was pushed open.
An arrogant, contemptuous voice rang out, "Well, what do you know. Nathaniel Sloan really is here!"
Estelle narrowed her eyes.
The person outside grew even more arrogant. "Don’t you even know how to greet your elders? Even your parents have to bow and scrape when they see us! What kind of attitude is this!"
Nathaniel acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing. He casually raised a hand, and Luke White moved to close the door.
The person outside flew into a rage and kicked the door. However, the door was thick and sturdy. The kicker let out a sudden shriek and collapsed, howling while clutching their foot.
Estelle: "...?"
’Is this the intelligence level of the Lancasters? If so, then a family like that really isn’t worth being a part of.’
