the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1558 - 1545: The Difference Between Men and Women
Miss came out after taking a shower and saw that Marcus Quinn had returned. Immediately, she happily poked her little head out and smiled, "You’re back. Shall we have dinner?"
The young girl had just finished bathing, her face as tender and pale as a peeled egg, and her large, dark eyes looked straight at him. The man instinctively lowered his eyes, feeling that the June weather was too hot and stifling, and said gloomily, "You eat first, I smell like sweat."
Marcus Quinn was a rugged man, braving wind and rain, a tough guy who was all for bleeding without tears. Since Miss moved in, he noticed that no matter how hot it got, she wouldn’t sweat and emitted a fragrant aura, unlike those tough guys. Thus, he started paying more attention to himself, but with physical work, sweat is inevitable, and Fountain City’s summer is like a steamer. So, the first thing Marcus did upon returning home was to take a shower.
"Then you go take a shower first, I’ll turn on the air conditioning." Miss went to turn on the air conditioner and saw Marcus heading into the bathroom with clothes. Suddenly, the spacious area felt empty, and only then did she let out a gentle breath; fifty square meters was indeed a bit small, and she felt like there wasn’t enough room when Marcus returned.
What’s the point of being so tall and strong. Miss’s cheeks flushed slightly as she plated the stir-fried dishes Marcus brought, then dried her hair. Fortunately, it was summer, and with no hairdryer in the house, she let her hair dry naturally.
Miss had carefully maintained her long hair for four to five years, growing it down to her waist. During the year she was kept captive, not to mention her hair, even her body had grown fragile. Her hair tips were yellow and split. She found a pair of scissors, planning to ask Marcus to help trim her long hair shorter, making things more efficient.
Marcus emerged after showering, wearing a tank top and shorts, and saw Miss sitting at the dining table waiting for him. Her face was moist and tender, looking lively, making his heart feel sweet.
The two sat down to eat. Since it was moving day, Marcus had bought meat dishes, combined with the braised pork leg Miss had bought, making the dinner very sumptuous. When Marcus was alone, he would usually settle for a meal of fried rice or a bowl of noodles, but now with the two of them, there were meat and vegetables, porridge and rice, and fruits after the meal. The young girl obediently nibbled on the braised pork leg with relish, instantly softening his heart to a lump. He thought he would earn more money in the future to make braised pork leg for her every day.
After dinner, Marcus went to wash the dishes and then took out various ingredients, spices, and herbs he bought, packed them separately in fine gauze bags, then added water to slow-cook them, preparing the brine.
Seeing him adding no less than twenty types of ingredients to slow-cook, Miss, being a lady who couldn’t distinguish grains, naturally couldn’t tell what he put. She immediately asked, "Marcus, what are you making?"
Marcus saw Miss entering the kitchen with scissors, her large, dark eyes wet and shiny, seemingly not as afraid of him as before. When the young girl entered, the air instantly felt a bit heated, and Marcus could smell the sweet scent emanating from her.
The man nonchalantly sat down at the dining table, creating a bit of distance, and in a low voice said, "Slow-cooking brine. Starting tomorrow, I won’t take odd jobs anymore. With the popularity around here, it’s better to start a food business."
"What are you going to do with the scissors?" His deep gaze landed on her small hands.
"I want you to help me trim my hair shorter." Miss handed him the scissors and then sat in front of him with a stool, her back facing him, thinking about what he just said. Was he planning to sell food?
Even though physical work wasn’t a long-term plan, Miss had thought about discussing this issue with Marcus. However, since they were still unfamiliar, and she knew nothing about Marcus’s past, it wasn’t appropriate to speak up and meddle in his affairs. Unexpectedly, on the first day of moving, Marcus mentioned it himself.
The man saw the young girl sitting obediently in front of him, her long, smooth, black hair like silk. He stretched out his hand, hesitating slightly, grasping a handful of black hair, smelling the fresh scent of shampoo on it, and unconsciously held his breath. He looked at her long hair but couldn’t bear to cut too much, only trimming the areas with unhealthy nutrition.
"Is it done?" Miss sat there stiffly, not daring to move, her body a bit rigid. The man’s strong physique released heat she could sense, even without turning around.
That must be the difference between men and women; her body was weak, her extremities cold all year round, with a lower body temperature, rarely sweating. Marcus, however, seemed like a small volcano, radiating heat when nearby.
"Yes." The man reluctantly released the slippery black hair, handing her the small section of trimmed hair.
Miss looked at the hair she had cut, feeling pensive, and threw it all into the trash can.
After cutting her hair, Miss sat back opposite Marcus, her attention back on the idea of selling food. She rested her head on her hand and asked, "What’s the brine for? What food are we going to sell, and will it sell well?"
The man’s gaze moved from her cute and charming face down to her slender, white swan neck and was unable to move away, saying heavily, "My maternal grandfather’s family lineage was Royal Kitchen, and they passed down some secret recipes. The food braised with our secret brine is very delicious."
The man paused and said, "I spent all the money I earned today on ingredients and meat. Tonight, I’ll braise some food for you to try."
Marcus spoke with some guilt, as he hadn’t handed over money to his wife today. He planned to give double the amount tomorrow.
"Okay, then your culinary skills must be excellent." Miss’s eyes brightened; she was actually a foodie. Her father used to joke about her picky mouth while trying to find various delicacies for her. After the dramatic family changes, she had amended all her lady-like habits and flaws, but after eating takeout for so many days, her appetite had been lacking. Hearing Marcus’s maternal family’s lineage was Royal Kitchen, her heart was instantly joyful.
"It’s decent." The man spoke in a low voice. What Marcus didn’t say was that he lived with his maternal family since childhood, where his grandfather’s culinary skills were passed down through generations, pioneering medicinal cuisine. His grandfather had deliberately trained him from an early age, and with years of exposure, his culinary skills were undoubtedly exceptional, only after his grandfather’s death, the pain in his heart led him on a different path, avoiding cookery entirely.
If not for feeling reluctant about Miss’s hardship, Marcus wouldn’t have considered opening an eatery.
After all, it contradicted his principles of living a low-key life.
The brine Marcus cooked was actually a secret medicinal brine. Half of the day’s earnings went to buying herbs, and since he bought only the best ingredients, spending a thousand yielded only a small amount, enough to cook a pot of brine.
