Chapter 1561 - 1547: The Way to Make Money

Ah Tan naturally recalled, this period has been both thrilling and busy. Half a month ago, she was sick for a week, then Marcus Quinn rescued her, she was worried and scared for a few days, and afterwards she was full of thoughts of saving money to leave the city village, exhausting her eyes and mind by painting two pictures, and now everything has flared up, her period arrived suddenly and painfully.

In her early years at the Chase Family, she was pampered. Every time her period came, there were various supplements and servants to attend to her, so she didn’t feel any pain. After being imprisoned for a year, her health deteriorated completely. Whenever her period came, the pain was unbearable, and the dates became increasingly irregular. Sometimes it would come only once every two months, perhaps because she moved house and found a job, she was so happy it turned into sorrow.

Marcus saw her small pale face due to the pain, cold sweat covering her forehead, and thought she might have fallen acutely ill. Suddenly, he smelled the metallic scent of blood at the tip of his nose. His tall and brave body grew stiff. With years of training, people like him are very perceptive, with sharper senses than others, possibly realizing it’s the young girl’s period. When he saw her constantly covering her stomach, he suddenly felt embarrassed, immediately picked her up, carried her to the bed, and then got up to make her some brown sugar ginger tea.

There was brown sugar readily available at home. The man made some brown sugar water, then sliced a piece of ginger, and carried it into the bedroom, feeding Ah Tan two sips.

After drinking two sips of hot water, Ah Tan felt warmth spread throughout her body. Then, she didn’t want to lie on the bed for fear of dirtying it, so she got up, nudged Marcus, realized she remembered to buy everything except pads, and her big dark eyes looked pitifully at him but couldn’t bring herself to say it out loud, only softly muttering: "My period has come."

"Mm, lie down at home and drink more hot water, I’ll go out for a bit." The man wasn’t completely clueless in certain aspects. In fact, Marcus had a delicate mind, often more meticulous than Ah Tan, considering everything thoroughly. What is at home, what isn’t, Ah Tan might not know, but Marcus was crystal clear about it.

This was related to his past experiences. The man was accustomed to controlling everything, even trivial matters at home were no exception.

It was already past 10 in the evening. Fortunately, it was a bustling area in Fountain City with many convenience stores. Marcus didn’t know what brand of pads Ah Tan usually used, so he picked the most expensive ones, took a few packs of various kinds, and bought two boxes of brown sugar ginger tea as well, hastily heading home.

Ah Tan finished drinking the hot water, feeling like she came back to life. Back in that small house in the suburban outskirts, she might not even have had a sip of hot water despite the excruciating pain. When the man returned, he saw the young girl squatting by the sofa, holding a cup, sipping hot water while silently crying.

The man’s mighty body shook, thinking she cried from the pain. He hurried in the door, instinctively reached out to scoop her small fragile body into his arms, and said in a deep voice, "Drink more brown sugar water, once you sweat, it won’t hurt."

He had never comforted a flower-like maiden before, the only thing he could think of was holding her tightly in his arms, shielding her from the wind and rain, giving her support.

Ah Tan was embraced by the man’s furnace-like body, immediately warming up all over, still holding the cup in her arms. Her fair and pink face bore traces of tears, somewhat awkwardly saying, "Marcus, did you buy the things back?"

She moved off his body, looked at the bag full of pads in his hands, finally let out a sigh of relief, handed him the cup, then took the bag of pads into the bathroom, changed clothes, tidied up, and when she came out, her face looked much better.

The man had already made her another cup of brown sugar ginger tea, turned off the air conditioning, and when he saw her come out, instinctively scooped her onto the bed, with strong and firm actions.

Ah Tan curled up in the summer quilt, her whole body forming a small shrimp ball, staring at his rugged face with her bright black eyes, for the first time feeling how good it is to have a man beside her. For the first time, she felt Marcus wasn’t fierce at all, even the scar on his brow exuded masculine charm.

Marcus half-knelt by the bed, giving her half a cup of brown sugar water, and his warm big hand pressed on her soft abdomen, gently rubbing it, in a deep voice suggesting, "Close your eyes and sleep, when you wake up, it won’t hurt."

Ah Tan nodded, quickly closed her eyes, and the bedroom fell silent, quiet enough to hear each other’s breathing.

Marcus checked on the thirty pounds of pig trotters simmering halfway, because there were so many, he switched to a larger stew pot, the simmering time was longer. After taking care of the kitchen food, he returned to the bedroom, prepared slightly warm brown sugar ginger tea, fed Ah Tan most of the cup, and continued to gently rub her stomach.
