The Undead Calamity Begins with a Graveyard Demon
Chapter 247 - 246: Dividing the Spoils Before the Battle
Chapter 247: Chapter 246: Dividing the Spoils Before the Battle
While explaining the situation in Trebot Town, Jin Chang pulled a hand-drawn map from his backpack. He carefully spread the simple chart on a large boulder in front of them, pointing to its markings as he explained everything in an orderly fashion.
From his practiced movements and clear explanations, Gu Su could tell that Jin Chang already had a thorough understanding of the abandoned town. This was clearly not the result of a quick, last-minute scout.
The map clearly marked the layout of the town walls, the locations of intact buildings, and even had simplified notations for hidden enemy strongholds and approximate enemy numbers within the town.
While it wasn’t perfectly precise down to the last detail, the core data and key information were accurate, providing more than enough to formulate a solid siege strategy.
What surprised Gu Su even more was that Jin Chang hadn’t just scouted the town’s current state; he had already planned for what would happen after they captured it.
He had plans for how to reinforce and renovate the walls, how to build defensive fortifications to fend off enemy counterattacks, how to repair the remaining functional buildings to get the town operational again, and even how to accommodate the members of the Grass Thorn Deceivers faction.
Every aspect of the plan was detailed and thorough, showing just how seriously he was taking this endeavor.
Although Jin Chang didn’t express his thanks out loud for Gu Su’s offer to help, his face couldn’t hide his joy and gratitude.
He knew that with the Mobile City Gu Su controlled, the entire operation would be different. Once it joined the battle, it could serve as a frontal diversion during the assault and would be invaluable for the subsequent defense and repair work. It would save him a tremendous amount of trouble and could even be the deciding factor in whether the siege succeeded or failed.
Of course, neither Jin Chang nor Winter intended to let Gu Su’s efforts go unrewarded.
Before Gu Su could even bring up the topic of compensation, Winter took the initiative and issued him three temporary siege quests, each with clear objectives and generous rewards.
[Siege Quest: The Silent Whistle]
[Quest Description: The train brought the clamor of the living, shattering the peace of the dead. Silence that iron Giant Beast forever, and the town will be rendered deaf and blind!]
[Quest Requirements: Destroy the train station’s communication equipment (0/1), kill the train dispatcher or stationmaster (0/2)]
[Quest Reward: Rusted Rail (Green Quality).]
[Explanation 1: To control the rails is to control the lifeline of the living.]
[Explanation 2: Trap them where they stand and let them await the coming of death.]
[Siege Quest: The Dry Wellspring]
[Quest Description: The living rely on fresh water to sustain their lives, just as the Undead rely on Yin Qi to nourish their souls. Cut off their source, and the town will wither from thirst!]
[Quest Requirements: Contaminate or destroy the town’s water sources (0/10)]
[Quest Reward: Corrupted Well (Green Quality).]
[Explanation 1: Water can sustain a ship or sink it; it can nurture life or take it.]
[Explanation 2: When they cannot find even a single drop of clean water to drink, despair will become your greatest weapon.]
[Siege Quest: The Collapsed Bell Tower]
[Quest Description: The bells once drove back the darkness, and prayers once held death at bay. But when the bell tower crumbles and the holy icons are covered in dust, faith becomes the most laughable of lies!]
[Quest Requirements: Destroy the town church or courthouse (0/1), and erect an Undead Altar upon the ruins (0/1)]
[Quest Reward: Reversing Cross (Green Quality).]
[Explanation 1: Destroying their spiritual backbone is more effective than destroying their bodies.]
[Explanation 2: Let the bells fall silent forever, and let screams of anguish be the new morning toll.]
The rewards for all three of these temporary siege quests were Green Quality items.
In the current Game World, Green Quality items were considered quite decent. Even veteran players had to put in considerable effort to acquire them.
Even with the power of the Graveyard Demon at his command, Gu Su couldn’t help but feel a stir of excitement and anticipation at the sight of these rewards.
Gu Su understood. Receiving Green Quality rewards was a sign of Winter’s good faith. Since Jin Chang was the leader of the player contingent and had a much deeper partnership with Winter, the rewards for the quests he’d received were bound to be even more generous.
Gu Su even suspected that Jin Chang’s quest list probably included items of the even rarer Blue Quality.
In addition to the rewards from Winter’s quests, Jin Chang had also already figured out how he would compensate Gu Su for his help.
He pulled Gu Su aside, away from Winter and the other Deceivers. After a moment of hushed discussion, he made a solemn promise to Gu Su.
As long as Gu Su fully committed to helping him take Trebot Town, his Graveyard Demon would get first priority to devour the three graveyards outside the town, as well as any two buildings inside—with the exception of the train station.
Jin Chang specifically explained that he wasn’t excluding the train station by chance.
As the central hub of Trebot Town, the train station was the absolute crux of his entire plan.
Jin Chang had it all figured out. Once they successfully occupied the town, his first priority would be to activate the train station’s core function. He would send out a request for a train, allowing players from outside the game to enter this Game World in large batches.
Previously, using their "nail-driving" method, they could only bring ten players into the game at a time, which was extremely inefficient.
But once the train station was active, players could be brought in by the trainload. The number of new players entering the game would grow exponentially, allowing their faction to expand rapidly.
To Jin Chang, the value of the train station far surpassed that of all the other buildings in town combined.
Even if every other building in town were destroyed, as long as they secured the train station, the siege would be considered a success.
And for Gu Su, Jin Chang’s offer was by no means a bad deal.
Even though he couldn’t devour the crucial train station, he could still choose two buildings from among the many within the town. Combined with the three graveyards outside, it would be more than enough for his Graveyard Demon to absorb the land and Resources it needed to further increase its size and combat strength.
After all, Gu Su’s primary reason for rushing over was to acquire these devourable buildings and graveyards. Jin Chang’s explicit guarantee completely met his expectations.
Gu Su was overjoyed and nodded immediately. "Sounds good. No problem on my end. I’ll give the order right now and have some of my subordinates come over. They can infiltrate the town ahead of time to complete these siege quests and pave the way for the main assault."
As he spoke, he raised his hand, preparing to summon his available subordinates via Five Ghosts Spirit Communication.
But just as he did, Jin Chang quickly reached out and stopped him. His expression was both urgent and serious. "Hold on! Don’t be reckless. It’s not time yet!"
Gu Su froze, a puzzled look on his face. He turned to Jin Chang and asked in a questioning tone, "What’s wrong? Are you waiting for something?"
’He truly didn’t understand. Since the plan was set, why not send his subordinates to infiltrate the town early, complete the quests, and clear out the obstacles ahead of time?’
