Gu Su’s sleep was anything but restful. He had been running himself ragged for days on end—personally leading supply runs, participating in battles, fortifying his territory, and strengthening his subordinates.
His entire body ached as if it were about to fall apart, a deep soreness permeating his very bones.
In a daze, just as he was about to fall into a deep sleep, he heard Crow’s Caw shouting from outside the tent. The voice was so piercing it cut right through the Graveyard Demon’s persistent, chilling aura and drilled straight into his ears.
"My Lord! My Lord, wake up! I have an urgent report!"
Gu Su frowned and forced his eyes open. His eyelids felt too heavy to lift, as if they were glued shut. He raised a hand to rub his throbbing temples, taking several seconds to gather enough strength to push himself into a sitting position.
He grabbed a nearby jacket, draped it over his shoulders, and threw open the tent’s heavy flap before stepping outside.
In the early morning, a thin gray mist drifted over the Graveyard Demon, keeping visibility low. The green flames of the Yin Fire Heap flickered, casting the surrounding Undead as indistinct, shifting shadows.
A breeze made the leaves of the Deceitful Tree RUSTLE and sway endlessly. Seeds from the Big Leaf Lilies drifted down from the tree like scattered Paper Money. Combined with the eerie green glow, the atmosphere was exceptionally bizarre.
He looked up toward the branches of the Deceitful Tree, his voice still hoarse and drowsy from sleep. "What happened?
You’re in such a panic. Is there news from the Bone Forest?"
Crow’s Caw flapped its gleaming white bone wings and, with a SWOOSH, shot down from the Deceitful Tree’s branch. It moved so quickly it stirred up a small gust of wind, landing steadily on an empty patch of ground not far from Gu Su.
The eerie green Soul Fire in its eye sockets blazed with alarming brightness, filled with unconcealable urgency and excitement. It shook its head vigorously. "Not the Bone Forest!
It’s Luck! Have you forgotten, My Lord? It struck gold and found something absolutely insane!"
"Luck?" The sleepiness in Gu Su’s eyes vanished in an instant. They lit up, and he leaned forward unconsciously, his voice filled with surprise and urgency.
He had sent Luck to find materials to repair the Earth-Binding Vein.
That was the Graveyard Demon’s only remaining unrepaired core structure, and fixing it was his top priority.
It was crystal clear to Gu Su that he only had ten days left to get this done.
By his count, three had already passed. He was secretly anxious beyond belief, though he hadn’t shown it.
He suppressed his inner turmoil, his fingertips unconsciously clenching. His speech quickened as he barraged Crow’s Caw with questions. "Where is it? What’s the exact situation? Is this reliable?"
"Luck is still there observing. It didn’t dare touch anything for fear of causing an accident, so it sent the fastest White Crow back to report."
Crow’s Caw replied quickly, not bothering to hide the excitement in its voice.
"It said that deep in the forest, ten kilometers east of the Graveyard Demon, it found the corpse of a giant turtle.
The turtle is impossibly huge, and it’s carrying an entire, intact building on its back.
Oh, no, that’s not quite right. After the giant turtle died, its corpse remained firmly in the posture of carrying the building. It’s just sitting there, parked deep in the forest."
’Ten kilometers away?!’
The excitement on Gu Su’s face instantly cooled, and his brow furrowed.
He fell silent, unconsciously stroking his chin.
’That’s much farther than I expected!’
Back when humans were still around and the roads were good, a ten-kilometer trip would have been a simple half-hour cab ride.
But this place was no longer the bustling city it once was. After humanity’s disappearance, weeds and trees had grown wild, densely blanketing all the original roads.
The forest wasn’t just full of unknown creatures roaming about; it was also a mess of entangling vines, treacherous ravines, and the ruins of abandoned buildings. Every step was fraught with peril.
Ten kilometers might not sound like much, but the path was full of pitfalls. If he were to lead his subordinates there, a round trip would likely take a full day and night.
And that was just to go and investigate.
If they actually wanted to transport the giant turtle back, who knew how much longer that would take.
After a long moment of silence, Gu Su took a deep breath and pressed, "How big is the turtle’s corpse exactly? Can it be dismantled?"
The moment the words left his mouth, he already had a plan forming.
’No matter how far the journey, how exhausting the work, or how dangerous it is, as long as I can repair the Earth-Binding Vein and successfully upgrade the Graveyard Demon, it’s all worth it!’
’Even if it takes more effort, I can’t miss this opportunity.’
Crow’s Caw quickly explained in detail, "It’s ridiculously huge!
The building on its back is over eighty meters long and five stories high.
But even a building that large only takes up a little less than half the space on its shell!
My Lord, just imagine how big that turtle must be!"
Gu Su could immediately picture it, imagining just how terrifyingly massive the giant turtle must be. It was, without a doubt, the largest corpse he had seen since entering the game.
At the same time, he also realized with perfect clarity that dismantling such a behemoth into pieces and transporting them back to the Graveyard Demon in batches would probably require sending out all of his Undead subordinates to work tirelessly for several days just to have a chance of success.
’Looks like I’ll have to take out the Kobolds first. I’ll need at least eight or nine hundred Undead acting together to handle this.’
Just then, Gu Su opened his mouth to say, "Crow’s Caw, go and inform Bone Forest at once. Tell him to..."
Before Gu Su could finish his order, a White Crow came flapping down, landing with a heavy THUD beside Crow’s Caw. It nearly lost its footing before immediately leaning in and chattering rapidly into Crow’s Caw’s ear.
Crow’s Caw leaned closer, listening intently as the eerie green Soul Fire in its eye sockets flickered rapidly with each of the White Crow’s words.
It nodded from time to time, committing the key information to memory.
Once the White Crow had finished, it immediately turned its head to Gu Su. "My Lord, Luck sent another update!
It flew inside the giant turtle’s body to investigate and found some good stuff.
A giant turtle heart that’s completely dried out but still has a faint trace of energy.
And an egg that’s completely petrified. It doesn’t look ordinary."
"How big are they? Give me the details!"
"Luck did a rough measurement. It said the dried-out turtle heart is about the size of a minivan.
The petrified egg is a bit smaller than the heart, about as tall as a person. The shell is absurdly hard; it couldn’t even scratch it with its claws. It’s also covered in fine, strange patterns that look pretty bizarre."
Crow’s Caw reported back dutifully, not daring to omit a single detail for fear of jeopardizing matters.
"I understand."
Gu Su nodded slowly, his expression growing grim. The urgency between his brows was even more intense than before. He raised a hand to rub his aching forehead, suppressing the turmoil in his heart. In a low voice, he asked, "Where are Bone Ash and the others now?"
