The Villain Reborn as Game's Final Boss

Chapter 316: That’s Enough [2]

Jacob interrupted Samara with his voice turning into that of someone who had lost everything in his life.

"Does your offer still stand?"

Hm?

Gently pushing Samara aside, Jacob walked in my direction, and stood before me.

I simply nodded my head a little without speaking a word.

Right now, looking at Jacob, he felt like a completely different person from the one that I had talked to a few minutes earlier.

His tears had now dried, making the skin on his face look a little sticky.

Though his eyes were a little red... looking closely, they now seemed to have gained some sort of enlightenment.

"Brother... please listen to me."

Samara quickly caught up with her brother, as she placed her hand over his arm, before trying to look into his eyes.

Jacob on his part didn’t respond to her attempt.

"I had stayed with the cult, only because I thought I had to protect you. The cult felt like a reliable source of income to support you... to support us, but... seeing that you had already known about everything, maybe... you had already been capable enough to look after yourself."

Jacob uttered the words with a consistent tone in his voice.

Though his sister had hidden the information from him, I couldn’t understand what the reason was for the guy to be so dramatic about it?

Was it a matter of his trust being broken?

So his love for Samara that he had always displayed... was that just fulfillment of a responsibility on his part?

The more I looked at these twins, the more I felt like my knowledge regarding the society had been upgraded.

Family... it truly was something with its own unique level of complications.

Complications that felt simple yet difficult to solve at the same time.

Had my— Kael’s family been the same?

"Brother... p-please."

Samara tried her best to make Jacob look into her eyes, but all her attempts failed quite miserably.

Poor girl.

I couldn’t help but be amused by seeing her state.

Just moments earlier she had been defending her brother and also questioning him at the same time... with a level of authority that was proof enough of her bond with Jacob.

But now... the same girl was begging before her brother with her eyes having turned sore from the consistent output of tears.

"Samara."

"Huh?"

Jacob had now turned to the side, focusing his gaze on the girl... who he had considered his sister some time ago.

Maybe he still did.

"If you had ever thought of me as your brother, then just answer my question honestly."

"..."

Samara didn’t reply as more tears streamed down her face, though she still managed to nod her head.

Jacob’s current voice must have made her realise the cracks that had now appeared in their relationship.

"I had joined that damn cult after father’s death. At the time, did you ever have the thought of preventing me from joining those bloody rascals?"

Jacob’s teeth had visibly clenched, as he tried his best to not raise his voice.

Was he trying to be gentle with his sister or controlling himself from... killing her?

Hm?

It should have been the former, as I didn’t think everyone was as decisive as me.

Though it had nearly been ten seconds since Jacob had asked the question, Samara on her part didn’t utter a single word.

She just looked into her brother’s eyes with more tears—

Thud!

The girl had now dropped to her knees, as she held Jacob’s waist with her hands.

"Answer me... Samara."

Jacob didn’t push her away, but neither did he help her stand up again.

"Father... he said his colleagues were good people—"

"That’s enough."

Jacob quickly wiped his face with the sleeves of his shirt, before holding Samara by her arms.

The girl had a confused look on her face, but before she could ask anything—

Jacob pushed her away, making the girl land on the ground below.

"Let’s discuss it somewhere else."

Giving his sister a final glance, Jacob walked towards me, before bowing his head a little.

"Sir."

That was quite a dramatic change in his attitude.

"I had remained in the cult, because that was the only way to support us. Before leaving it, I would at least have to find another source of income. You said you could give me a chance at a new life. I hope that still stands true."

Jacob managed a small smile at the end, however forced it might have been.

"You sure about it."

I asked while looking at his sister, who despite being covered in dirt, still had her eyes on her brother’s back.

Jacob followed my gaze, before giving a short glance to his sister.

"Are you going to leave your sister to her own devices?"

Though I had the thought of using the girl as a bonus, I still had to respect my new employee’s wish—

"No."

Hm?

"No matter what... she’s still my sister, and it will stay the same. I am not a coward to break a relation that had been formed by the blood we share."

Blood, huh.

Jacob seemed to have developed resentment for his sister, yet here he was still ready to support her.

"B-Brother."

Samara, hearing her brother’s words, was caught in another storm of guilt, making her eyes water up once again.

"Working for me is pretty simple."

I could have discussed the details with Jacob at a quiet place, but seeing the way he was looking at his sister... maybe they needed some more time to sort their issues.

"You just have to do what I say in the academy and also outside the academy grounds. The credits will be transferred to you at the start of each month."

Summarising his work in the simplest words possible, I extended my hand towards Jacob, who simply stared at me with confusion in his eyes.

"Is it really that simple?"

"It is."

I answered with a straight face.

Jacob’s question was justifiable. I had made his work sound pretty easy... and that was indeed a fact, as I wasn’t one to make my employees work like slaves.

Jacob... the guy would surely enjoy his new line of work—

Maybe.
