Chapter 199: Situation At Oresfall
Chapter 199: Situation At Oresfall
Back in Oresfall.
Deep inside an apartment on the first floor of the residential district, Tessa, Milo, Hugo, Vance, and Octavia sat around a smooth wooden dining table.
Another person stood at the kitchen counter nearby, busy chopping vegetables and preparing food for them.
Since the five of them were officially some of the highest-ranking knights in the territory, and because they had successfully reached the E-rank quite a long time ago, Adrian had given them some extra incentives. One of those perks was the offer for each of them to get their own private apartment.
But they all shut that offer down. They just chose to stick together and share one big apartment instead.
And Adrian respected that. So he also gave them full access to a private chef and a maid. He wanted them to focus entirely on their special training routines.
Sweeping floors and cooking meals was not their problem anymore. So their personal chef was currently throwing a heavy dinner together. The five of them just lounged at the table and rested their sore muscles after spending all day out on the dirt training fields.
Vance stretched his arms over his head and let out a loud groan.
"We train every single day." Vance complained. "But there is absolutely no one out there who even gets close to our level. Do we really need to train this hard when we are not even at war?"
Tessa immediately shot him a sharp look.
"Lord Adrian is giving us free food." Tessa answered firmly. "So we must train hard in return. He pays us a lot of money too. In fact, we earn more than the other E rank knights."
She folded her arms tight and just glared right at him.
"We came here as beaten slaves." Tessa reminded him. "And he gave us a chance to live as regular, free people. In fact, we are actually living vastly better than the regular citizens here. So we must pay him back."
Tessa leaned forward over the wood.
"We must pay him back just by putting in our best effort." she insisted. "We have to put in all the effort we can for everything that he has done for us. Even if there are no active wars right now, we must train just in case there might be one in the future."
Octavia nodded in agreement.
"Tessa is right." Octavia added. "We might get dragged into a massive war, or a chaotic skirmish. Or we might be sent out on a highly dangerous mission by Lord Adrian. It is our sworn duty to be perfectly prepared for it."
Octavia looked at Vance seriously.
"And once we are put into a war," she continued. "We will not have the time to get stronger. We will be out in the battlefield just fighting to stay alive. So if we train hard right now, we actually boost our survival odds. And it makes us way more useful to Lord Adrian."
Octavia turned her head to check on the quiet boy sitting at the far end of the table.
"We all need to learn from Hugo." Octavia said.
She pointed a finger right at him.
"Out of everyone sitting here, he is the only guy pushing way past his limits." Octavia praised him. "We all go to the training grounds and train there from early morning to late afternoon. But Hugo eats his dinner, goes back out, and trains even more."
Octavia shook her head with a wry smile.
"And then he comes back, has his late supper, and goes out to train again until midnight." she explained. "He only sleeps after that and he still wakes up way earlier than all of us. He goes out to train immediately, and by the time we are all finally awake, he is already halfway through his morning training routine."
She looked at the rest of the group. "We must be learning from his dedication."
Milo let out a tired sigh.
"I feel like he does a bit too much training." Milo argued. "We need some rest. Hugo can heal his own body however he wants with his magic. He does not have to worry about muscle tears or fatigue. As long as he has enough mana, he can just go on training forever."
Milo rubbed his sore legs.
"But we do not have the luxury of doing the same thing." Milo pointed out. "We must take a rest so our bodies can recover."
Octavia shook her head and pointed at him.
"Hugo can heal all of us too." Octavia countered. "We just never actually asked him to do it."
Vance snorted.
"Well, I asked him a few times." Vance admitted. "But even though I tried my hardest, I just cannot keep up with the crazy routines he does. He is just too much. His training schedule is a bit too much for a normal person to handle."
Hugo did not even bother joining the conversation. He just looked at them with a totally blank, empty stare. There was almost zero change in expression on his face.
Instead of arguing, he just looked over at the chef.
In his mind, he was just thinking about one specific thing.
’How long is she going to take to make the dinner? I need to get back to train.’
And just as he thought that, he heard a knock coming from the door.
Milo stood up and walked over to get it. He pulled the wooden door open and they were all pretty surprised to see the man standing outside in the hallway. He was wearing a really tight, black uniform. They knew that this was the official uniform of Lord Adrian’s secret assassin squad.
And they also knew that this was probably something incredibly important. Because unless it was a critical emergency, the shadows would never have come straight to their apartment.
Octavia and everyone else instantly stood up from the table.
The assassin walked in and quickly closed the door behind him.
