The Viltrumite Across the Worlds

Chapter 320: Steppenwolf Descends

While the city police publicly promised that they would find the damned killer terrorizing the city...

Jovian was drinking tea in his office.

And he had received a rather unusual guest.

"Jovian, I need your help with something."

The beautiful long-legged woman, or rather, the beautiful guest, looked at Jovian seriously as she made her request.

"What is it?"

"Did you come all this way because you wanted to fuck again?"

Jovian casually asked the beautiful woman standing before him.

"Of course not!"

The woman froze for a moment before shouting angrily.

"Hahaha! Don’t get so worked up. Tell me what happened."

Jovian chuckled at her irritated expression.

"Themyscira appears to have been invaded!"

"Many of my sisters were killed, and whoever attacked us stole Themyscira’s Mother Box. It’s obvious that the enemies who fought Earth in ancient times have begun moving again."

"So, Jovian, what do you think?"

The woman took a breath and forced herself to calm down.

Truthfully, she found it almost impossible to remain calm whenever she was around Jovian. The man was a shameless bastard who did not seem to understand the concept of decency.

If she did not genuinely need his help, she never would have come to him.

"All right. I understand the situation perfectly, my dear Diana."

Jovian smiled after hearing her explanation.

"You understand?! Your expression tells me you don’t understand how dangerous this is at all!"

"Listen to me. This isn’t like the minor conflicts we normally deal with on Earth. This enemy comes from beyond our world. We’re dealing with beings worshiped as gods!"

Diana strode right up to Jovian until their faces were almost touching.

"What a coincidence. I’m also a terrifying being from outer space. Sounds like this enemy and I might have plenty to talk about."

Jovian shrugged and smiled at Diana.

"..."

Diana stared at him furiously.

Finally, she straightened up and turned to leave.

"Forget I ever came here, asshole!"

As far as Diana was concerned, Jovian was an unbelievably arrogant, conceited bastard who was completely impossible to communicate with.

"Hahaha..."

"I can’t exactly pretend I didn’t hear that, Diana."

Jovian reached out and caught Diana by the wrist.

Then he pulled her directly into his arms.

"What are you doing?!"

Diana’s face flushed as Jovian held her against him.

"Having some fun with you, of course."

With that, Jovian picked Diana up and left the company building.

They found a remote island and spent the next seven days indulging themselves with reckless abandon.

Truthfully, it was the first time Diana had ever experienced anything she could genuinely describe as madness.

Before meeting Jovian, everyone she had ever encountered, man or woman, had simply been far too fragile compared with her.

Seven days later...

When Diana finally woke up, she discovered that she was no longer on the deserted island.

She was inside a room in Jovian Tower.

Jovian himself was gone, leaving only a note behind.

"What an asshole!"

Diana cursed angrily.

She put on her equipment, smashed straight through the glass of Jovian Tower, and leaped into the sky.

Meanwhile...

During that same week...

Countless Parademons swept across the world.

A monstrous figure clad entirely in silver armor and wielding an enormous axe threatened the entire planet.

He had located all three Mother Boxes on Earth and brought them together within a gigantic structure.

The monster intended to use the Mother Boxes to open a passage and bring the greatest being in the universe to Earth.

The darkest force in the cosmos.

And there was only one reason he was doing it.

He had discovered the Anti-Life Equation on Earth!

It was the one thing the mighty Darkseid, Dark Lord of Apokolips, desired above all else.

If Darkseid obtained the Anti-Life Equation, he would be able to dominate all life in the universe, allowing him to impose his rule across the infinite cosmos.

Hum...

The enormous creature activated a communicator.

He removed his armor, revealing the grotesque, scarred skin beneath it, then dropped to one knee before the dark figure displayed by the device and respectfully lowered his head.

"My great lord! I have found what you seek on this world."

The monstrous creature gazed reverently at the shadowy figure before him.

"Oh? Steppenwolf, you found it?"

The great Dark Lord remained perfectly calm, his hands clasped behind his back as he addressed the monster before him.

Darkseid’s eyes were utterly cold.

There was not the slightest trace of compassion in his gaze as he looked at Steppenwolf.

He regarded him as though he were nothing more than an insect that could be crushed at any moment.

Even though Steppenwolf was his own relative, Darkseid could kill him without the slightest hesitation.

"..."

"My great Dark Lord, I have indeed found it. The Equation is engraved upon the surface of this planet. Once we extract and reproduce it, it will belong to you!"

Steppenwolf kept his head lowered, his expression filled with absolute reverence for his master.

"Then unite the Mother Boxes and open the way for me and my armies."

"You know what you must do."

"Do not fail me again."

Darkseid ended the communication immediately after speaking.

"Sigh..."

Once the transmission disappeared, Steppenwolf sighed helplessly and rose from the ground.

He had worked for so long, yet he still could not regain even the slightest amount of Darkseid’s trust.

But he had no other path left.

His position in the universe was already precarious enough.

"Let everything go according to plan."

Like an overworked grunt desperate to finish his shift, Steppenwolf stood before the three Mother Boxes he was guarding and waited eagerly for them to complete the Unity.

Once they merged, the passage would open.

Darkseid would arrive.

And Steppenwolf’s mission would finally be over.

As for the powerful beings living on this planet...

They were certainly formidable.

Steppenwolf had no problem admitting that.

But...

No matter how powerful Earth’s defenders might be, they could never rival the great Dark Lord.

Of that, Steppenwolf was completely certain.

"Now all I have to do is wait."

Steppenwolf stood outside the Mother Boxes with his axe in hand.

Boom!

Suddenly, a thunderous impact shook the area.

A masked man with enormous wings descended from the sky, gripping a mace in his hand.

"Hmm?!"

Steppenwolf looked up at the winged figure.

A vicious gleam flashed in his eyes as he raised his axe to block.

Boom!

The force of the descending attack caught Steppenwolf off guard and smashed him straight through the ground behind him.

"Huff..."

The winged man wearing a hawk-shaped helmet watched Steppenwolf go flying from his surprise attack.

He wasted no time.

He immediately rushed toward the Mother Boxes as they continued merging.

Gripping his mace, he swung with all his strength.

BOOM!

The instant the mace collided with the Mother Boxes, a tremendous burst of energy erupted.

The terrifying backlash launched the winged man backward.

"Damn it..."

He lay on the ground, clearly not expecting his attack to accomplish so little against the Mother Boxes.

"Ugh..."

After catching his breath, he picked up his mace and prepared to attack them again.

"Where do you think you’re going?!"

Before he could move, a powerful hand clamped down on his shoulder.

"Damn..."

The man panicked as he looked at the hand gripping him.

"Agh!"

The next instant, tremendous force hurled him through the air and smashed him into a stone pillar.

"Ugh..."

The winged man lay amid the rubble.

His injuries were now severe enough that he could not stand, much less fly.

"You can die now!"

Steppenwolf approached him one step at a time, carrying his massive axe.

Standing over the twitching man, he raised the weapon high above his head.

Boom!

Then he swung it down.

A violent rush of air erupted.

But Steppenwolf’s axe suddenly stopped in midair.

The space before him began fracturing and overlapping like the reflections inside a kaleidoscope.

"Hmm?!"

"A sorcerer?!"

Steppenwolf frowned as he watched reality distort around him.

As one of the New Gods, Steppenwolf had seen phenomena like this before.

He immediately realized that a powerful sorcerer was nearby.

"Come out, you damned sorcerer!"

Steppenwolf roared at his surroundings.

His eyes carefully followed the constantly shifting space around him, searching for some weakness in the sorcerer’s spell.

"There!"

After searching for a moment, Steppenwolf appeared to notice something.

He raised his axe and swung directly at the distorted space.

Crash!

The space in front of him shattered like glass.

A mysterious figure was revealed, floating in midair.

He wore a golden helmet, a blue bodysuit, and a golden cape.

"Thank you, Doctor."

The winged man wearing the hawk helmet nodded gratefully toward the man who had saved him.

"There’s no need."

Doctor Fate remained perfectly calm as he continued casting spell after spell to interfere with Steppenwolf.

Boom!

At the same time, another figure rapidly expanded until he was nearly the size of a building.

The giant swatted away the surrounding Parademons and charged directly toward Steppenwolf.

"Aaagh!"

His enormous fist came crashing down.

"Hmm!"

Steppenwolf met the incoming blow with his axe.

"Aaagh!"

A scream followed.

The giant lost one of his hands.

"Interesting..."

After severing the giant’s hand, Steppenwolf suddenly laughed as though he had noticed something amusing.

"So this is what Earth sends against me?"

"A wounded bird, an oversized amateur, a sorcerer hiding behind tricks, and another hero arriving late to the battle?"

Steppenwolf looked between the giant, the winged warrior, and the woman who had just arrived riding a powerful current of wind.

His smile widened.

"When I first came to this world, its warriors had far more discipline than this."

"And now you call yourselves Earth’s champions?"

Steppenwolf laughed loudly.

"..."

The heroes fell silent.

Their hands tightened around their weapons.

They were clearly ready to teach Steppenwolf exactly how dangerous Earth’s champions could be.

"Oh? Did that make you angry?"

Steppenwolf smiled as he watched them tense.

"I’m simply stating what I see!"

He crooked a finger at the warrior in the hawk helmet, deliberately provoking him.

"Don’t let him bait you!"

Doctor Fate, one of Earth’s greatest sorcerers, immediately tried to stop Hawkman as anger overwhelmed his judgment.

But it was already too late.

"Bastard!"

Hawkman cursed and charged forward with his mace.

"I was waiting for that!"

Steppenwolf leaped into the air and brought his axe down toward Hawkman.

Slash!

A cold flash swept through the air.

Half of Hawkman’s wing became Steppenwolf’s trophy.

"You... are interesting."

"Even after losing a wing, you still have divine power flowing through your body."

Steppenwolf smiled at the wounded Hawkman.

"Ugh..."

Hawkman finally regained his composure.

He looked at his severed wing furiously.

Even without it, he did not care.

He could still fight Steppenwolf hand-to-hand.

"I’ll get you out of there!"

A powerful gust swept through the air as the woman controlling the wind rushed in to rescue Hawkman.

Smack!

Steppenwolf caught her by the throat with one hand.

She instantly became his hostage.

"No!"

Seeing her captured, the giant immediately reached toward her with his remaining hand.

Steppenwolf seized the opening.

His axe tore into one of the giant’s major arteries.

"Idiot! You’re too big of a target!"

Steppenwolf ripped the axe free from the giant’s neck.

Blood immediately sprayed across the ground.

"No..."

The woman watched the giant collapse in anguish.

Then she felt a sharp pain in her neck.

Everything went dark.

Steppenwolf casually tossed her body onto the ground after snapping her neck.

Then he shifted aside to avoid Hawkman’s surprise attack from behind and buried his axe in Hawkman’s back.

Doctor Fate fell silent as he watched his entire team collapse in a matter of moments.

"..."

"Anyone else?!"

Steppenwolf casually flicked the blood from the blade of his axe and turned toward Doctor Fate.

"You’re pretty damn full of yourself, aren’t you?"

Just as Steppenwolf was reveling in his victory, a figure in a white bodysuit appeared before him with a thunderous rush of air.

"Damn it! Why are you here?!"

Steppenwolf cursed the instant he saw the man.
