The Viltrumite Across the Worlds

Chapter 323: Team Dai-Gurren Is Formed!

  • Next Chapter

"Move out, my soldiers! Find him, then kill him!"

The great Spiral King sat upon his lofty throne, his eyes formed from countless concentric spirals gazing into the distance. Below him stood row after row of sterile Beastmen soldiers.

Every one of these soldiers had been created by the Spiral King himself. That's right, relying solely on his imagination and power, he had created an entire race from nothing.

Once Spiral Power reached the level attained by the Spiral King, its wielder was already approaching godhood.

The Spiral King's eyes remained fixed on the horizon. He looked forward to the day when the man who possessed seemingly endless Spiral Power, just like him, would finally come to face him.

When that happened, the Spiral King would personally determine the man's caliber.

He would find out whether this newcomer truly possessed the ability to lead the Spiral beings back into the light once more.

"Anti-Spiral... Even now, the wound you gave me still aches."

The Spiral King gently pressed a hand against his chest, directly over his heart.

Meanwhile...

Kamina had somehow gotten his hands on an enormous flag.

He marched forward while waving it proudly, constantly heading in the direction of the sun. According to Kamina, the sun itself had already given him the answer.

That's right.

Don't hesitate.

Don't overthink it.

A man doesn't need to think that much!

Forward!

Keep moving forward!

Their feet crossed the barren earth, leaving nothing but endless stretches of pale sand behind them.

Still, there was no reason to hesitate.

Move forward.

Only by continuing forward would they find the answer.

A man looked up at the stars and believed that someday, he too would become one of them, forever advancing toward greater heights.

Whenever Simon looked at Kamina and asked, "Kamina! Are we really going to be okay without a map? Are you sure the enemy is actually ahead of us?"

Kamina would always burst out laughing.

"Hahahaha! Simon! Just who the hell do you think I am?! I can hear the enemy's soul calling out to me! There's no way the path beneath my feet could be wrong!"

"..."

Jovian, who had been following behind Kamina the entire time, remained silent.

He had absolutely no idea how this absurdly hot-blooded young man was somehow finding the correct direction through pure instinct.

But Kamina wasn't wrong.

Their destination really was straight ahead.

"Are you sure we're going the right way?!"

Yoko's eyes were filled with doubt.

She could accept those two idiots navigating entirely by instinct.

What confused her was why Jovian was also continuing forward without the slightest hesitation.

"Heh..."

Jovian merely smiled at Yoko's question and offered no further explanation.

"Hey!"

Yoko sighed helplessly at Jovian's mysterious smile, but eventually followed along anyway.

BOOM!

Just as the group continued onward, more than a dozen enormous Gunmen suddenly descended from the sky.

Each one was as large as a building.

"Hahahaha!"

"Target located!"

The Gunmen swiveled their enormous eyes around. Once they confirmed Jovian's identity, their pilots erupted into laughter.

"So this is the guy the Spiral King wants?!"

"Whatever! Let's just execute him!"

One of the Gunmen was clearly occupied by someone of much higher rank than the others.

Its pilot had long white hair and distinctly bestial features.

"General, please leave this man to us!"

"Surely someone of your status has no need for such insignificant achievements!"

After hearing the unusual Beastman speak, the pilots of the other Gunmen immediately addressed him with deference.

"Do whatever you want."

The white-haired Beastman general answered with authority, a trace of contempt appearing in his expression.

After all, the great Spiral King himself had specifically warned them to exercise extreme caution when dealing with this monster.

How could a bunch of insignificant foot soldiers possibly defeat him?

Don't underestimate humans, you idiots!

However, the white-haired Beastman had no intention of warning these arrogant weaklings.

In his eyes, trash incapable of understanding the Spiral King's orders had already lost the right to continue living.

Their deaths were the only remaining value they possessed.

"Kamina! This is bad! There are so many enemies this time!"

Simon nervously hid behind Kamina as he stared at the enormous Gunmen surrounding them.

"Hahahaha!"

"Don't be afraid, Simon! I'll always protect you!"

Kamina grabbed Simon and jumped into their little Gunmen with him, preparing to wait for the right opportunity to strike.

"There are way too many of them! We should retreat first!"

Cold sweat ran down Yoko's cheek as she stared at the enormous Gunmen.

Then she looked toward Jovian, who was already walking toward the enemy, and hurriedly offered her suggestion.

"There's no need."

Jovian shook his head and continued toward the gigantic machines with relaxed steps.

"Human, are you trying to die?!"

"Hehehehe!"

"Human, we'll even let you choose how you want to die!"

The Gunmen laughed mockingly as they watched Jovian approach.

"I don't enjoy fighting."

"Leave now. Otherwise, I'll have no choice but to make you the foundation upon which peace is built."

Jovian stared coldly at the Gunmen.

"He doesn't enjoy fighting?! Did you hear the ridiculous crap this human just said?!"

The Gunmen burst into laughter and attacked Jovian.

Their enormous fists struck with tremendous force.

In an instant, they slammed directly into Jovian.

A violent explosion of sand erupted into the sky, completely obscuring him from view.

"JOVIAN!"

Panic flashed across Yoko's face when she saw Jovian get hit.

She immediately raised her sniper rifle and fired repeatedly at the Gunmen.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Shot after shot struck their armor.

None of the bullets caused even the slightest damage.

"Hahahaha!"

"Little girl, did you actually do something just now?!"

"Your attacks are completely insignificant to us!"

The Gunmen laughed as their pilots continued mocking Yoko.

"Damn it..."

Yoko cursed under her breath.

Unfortunately, they were right. Her attacks couldn't harm these things.

"You're awfully desperate to save that guy! Don't tell us you've got something going on with the idiot who thought he could fight our Gunmen with his bare hands!"

"Too bad! Your boyfriend's already been crushed! Hahahaha!"

The Gunmen erupted into another round of laughter.

"You bastards!"

Yoko's eyes blazed with anger.

"Move!"

Just as she prepared to empty the rest of her ammunition into them, Kamina charged forward in the small Gunmen and attacked one of the giants.

BAM!

Then one of the enormous Gunmen swatted him aside like a fly.

"How is that possible?!"

Inside the cockpit, Kamina looked genuinely shocked.

"So we really are too small!"

"You only realized that now?!"

Simon shouted helplessly.

"Pfft!"

"Are these people supposed to be comedians?!"

"His Majesty the Spiral King sent us to deal with these clowns?!"

"Hahahaha!"

The Gunmen continued laughing at Kamina and the others.

BOOM!

Then, within the cloud of dust, a figure slowly emerged.

He merely raised one hand.

An entire Gunmen was instantly destroyed.

"What?!"

Everyone froze.

"I already told you, I don't enjoy fighting."

As the dust slowly cleared, Jovian appeared completely unharmed beneath the towering machines.

His eyes resembled rotating spirals, and a dark gray cloak hung from his shoulders as he walked toward the remaining Gunmen one step at a time.

"This guy..."

After seeing one of their companions destroyed so effortlessly, the pilots finally began to feel fear.

"Let everything return to peace."

Jovian raised his hand.

The sand around him suddenly transformed into enormous metal chains.

In an instant, those chains shot toward the Gunmen.

BOOM!

A deafening explosion erupted as countless chains pierced straight through the massive machines.

"Urgh..."

Amid a chorus of agonized cries, the Gunmen crashed to the ground one after another, completely disabled.

"Hmph."

After finishing them off, Jovian turned toward the white Gunmen that had remained behind the others without joining the battle.

"Go back and tell the Spiral King that he and I will inevitably fight."

Jovian spoke coldly to the pilot.

"I have no obligation to carry messages for you!"

"My king gave me only one order, to kill you here!"

The white Gunmen drew its weapon.

"Heh..."

"Are you sure you want to fight me instead of delivering my message?"

Jovian smiled and revealed his spiral-shaped eyes.

"Uh..."

When the white-haired Beastman piloting the Gunmen saw Jovian's eyes, identical in appearance to those of the Spiral King, he seemed to understand everything.

"I see..."

"I will deliver your message."

The white-haired Beastman sheathed his weapon, turned his Gunmen around, and raced into the distance.

"It's over."

Once the Gunmen disappeared from sight, Jovian turned toward Yoko and the others.

"That Gunmen really left? Why did you let him go?"

Yoko walked over to Jovian and stared toward the horizon where the machine had disappeared.

"I've never enjoyed conflict. I only destroyed those Beastmen because they were incapable of understanding what peace truly means."

Jovian shook his head.

He had always possessed a peace-loving heart.

Unfortunately, these insignificant fools simply couldn't understand him.

"What are you planning to do next?"

Yoko glanced down at her rifle.

She was beginning to think that continuing to follow Jovian wouldn't be particularly useful if she couldn't actually help him in battle.

"Next, I'll continue traveling with all of you."

"But it's about time I upgraded your equipment."

"You won't win the battles ahead with what you have now."

Jovian raised both hands.

Immediately, the Gunmen he had destroyed began undergoing dramatic changes.

The machines were disassembled piece by piece, their components floating through the air before being reconstructed.

Before long, three enormous mechs stood before Yoko, Kamina, and Simon.

Each had a completely different appearance.

"These are..."

The three stared at the machines in shock.

"They're gifts."

"Get inside them, then go bring peace to this world."

With his cloak hanging from his shoulders, Jovian spoke softly to the three of them.

These three machines had been personally created by Jovian specifically for Yoko, Kamina, and Simon.

Each had been designed to complement its pilot's individual characteristics.

Yoko's machine carried a sniper rifle.

Kamina's wielded a massive sword.

Simon's was equipped with gauntlets and drills.

More importantly, all three machines could draw out and amplify the Spiral Power within Yoko, Kamina, and Simon.

In his current state, Jovian admitted that there was still a gap between himself and the Anti-Spiral.

But with the support of Yoko and Kamina's Spiral Power, and especially the immense Spiral Power hidden within Simon, Jovian was confident that he could devour the Anti-Spiral.

"Bring peace to the world..."

Yoko murmured those words before climbing into the red mech created for her.

No instructions were necessary.

The moment she entered the cockpit, something encoded within her DNA instinctively told her how to operate the machine.

The mech continuously resonated with the Spiral Power flowing through her body.

"Hahahaha!"

"Now this is what a man should be piloting!"

Kamina took control of his samurai-style mech and roared with laughter.

"I hereby declare that Team Dai-Gurren is officially founded!"

"And I'm the first leader of Team Dai-Gurren!"

"No, no, no..."

Yoko's eye twitched when she heard him.

"Even if we really are forming a group, why would you automatically get to be the leader?"

"Isn't there someone here who's obviously better suited for the job?"

"I see..."

A look of sudden understanding flashed across Kamina's eyes.

"All right, then! Starting today, Jovian is the leader of Team Dai-Gurren, and I'm the vice leader!"

"It's settled! Ahahahaha!"

Kamina threw his head back and laughed heartily.

"Ah..."

"I seriously can't deal with you..."

Yoko held her forehead in exasperation.

"Um..."

"Well..."

"Anyway..."

"Thank you, Mr. Jovian, for giving us something this important..."

Of the three, Simon was the only one still speaking hesitantly.

"Looks like you've still got a lot of growing to do, Simon..."

Jovian regarded Simon with a hint of emotion.

Simon was still far too timid.

He would need to continue growing.

Otherwise, there was no way this boy could ever become the man who would one day inherit the spirit of Team Dai-Gurren and trade blows with a monster like the Anti-Spiral.

"Forward! Keep moving forward!"

After receiving his new machine, Kamina felt as though an endless torrent of strength was surging through his body.

He wanted to fight!

Meanwhile...

"Great Spiral King!"

"I swear I wasn't mistaken! That man, your enemy, possesses eyes exactly like yours!"

"Those eyes formed from countless concentric rings, once you've seen them even once, you'll never forget them!"

The white-haired Beastman knelt on one knee before the Spiral King's throne.

Anyone who had seen those countless rings within Jovian's eyes even once would never be able to forget them.

"Haha..."

"Hahahaha!"

While the white-haired Beastman waited for the Spiral King to respond, the seemingly invincible ruler suddenly burst into laughter.

"At last, someone has reached the same heights as me?!"

"It's been far too long since I've felt this kind of anticipation..."

"Summon the Four Supreme Generals."

"Have them go together and meet this man."

"Let us see whether he truly possesses the qualifications to make me fight him personally."

The rings within the Spiral King's eyes gleamed as he issued his command to the Beastman kneeling below.

"Yes, Your Majesty!"

The white-haired Beastman immediately bowed his head.
