The Witches of Sin
Chapter 1 - The Bravers
Six months had passed since humanity's greatest war. The invasion that had nearly driven mankind to extinction had finally ended with the fall of the alien emperor, King Cosmos.
The battle had lasted only three months. Its scars would remain for generations. Entire cities had been reduced to mountains of steel and concrete, vast forests had been burned away by orbital bombardments, and millions had perished defending a world that had almost been erased from existence.
Yet humanity endured.
Everywhere, cranes towered over ruined skylines as construction crews worked day and night to rebuild shattered districts. Children once again laughed in temporary schools built from shipping containers, while streets that had once echoed with explosions now bustled with merchants reopening their shops.
Life... slowly... was returning.
Throughout every rebuilt city stood monuments engraved with thousands of names. People still visited them every day, leaving flowers beneath cold stone. Some cried, some smiled, and some simply stood in silence.
The world mourned, but it also moved forward. And no names were praised more than those of the seven heroes who had ended the invasion.
The Bravers.
The legendary warriors chosen by the mysterious power known as Stellar Energy. Their transformation suits, created by the brilliant scientist Dr. Willow, granted powers beyond human imagination.
Fire. Water. Lightning. Ice. Strength. Flowers. Slashes.
Together, they had achieved what entire armies could not. They had saved Earth.
Unfortunately, shortly after the war, Dr. Willow peacefully passed away from old age. Before his death, he refused to reveal the secrets behind the Stellar Energy System.
He feared that if such power fell into the wrong hands... humanity itself would become its own greatest enemy.
Thus... no more Bravers could ever be created. The original seven remained the only ones in existence.
Once peace had been restored, the team quietly disbanded. Not because they had grown apart, but because, for the first time in months... they were finally allowed to dream again.
The Bravers eventually went their separate ways, each of them began walking a different path. One became a detective, another returned to military service, while one chose to devote himself to his family. Another pursued her dream of becoming an idol, and one stepped into the world of acting. Little by little, they all found new lives and new purposes beyond being heroes.
All except one.
One of them... never stopped.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The night wind howled between the towering buildings as a crimson figure landed gracefully atop a rooftop before leaping toward the next with practiced ease. His red jacket fluttered behind him like a flame.
Taichi Konoha. Sixteen years old. Leader of the Bravers.
Even now, months after the war, he continued accepting mission after mission without complaint.
His communicator chimed softly.
If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"Red Braver, your destination is two blocks ahead."
Taichi smiled.
"Got it."
He vaulted across another rooftop before landing on a fire escape, his boots barely making a sound. As he descended to the street below, he glanced around at the neighborhood.
The district was still recovering from the invasion. Several buildings remained abandoned, while wooden barricades surrounded collapsed apartments waiting to be demolished.
Yet... light still shone through apartment windows. Restaurants remained open late, and children's drawings decorated the construction fences.
People were living again.
Taichi couldn't help smiling.
"Everyone's working hard... Mom, Dad... the world is finally getting better."
His smile softened.
"I hope you're watching."
For a brief moment, he imagined them standing beside him—his mother smiling warmly and his father proudly patting his shoulder. The memory faded.
Taichi clenched a fist.
"I'll keep my promise. I'll protect everyone, no matter what."
His voice was quiet, yet filled with unwavering determination.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As he rounded a corner, two uniformed police officers immediately recognized him.
"The Red Braver!"
One of them straightened instinctively.
"It's an honor, sir."
Taichi scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
"Please don't call me 'sir.'"
"I'm only sixteen."
The older officer laughed.
"Hard to remember that."
The younger officer nodded enthusiastically.
"You saved my family during the invasion...Thank you."
Taichi looked away, slightly embarrassed.
"I'm just glad they're safe."
He quickly changed to the main subject.
"So...you said there have been disappearances?"
The officers immediately became serious as the older one unfolded a map.
""Over the last three weeks, twenty-seven people have disappeared. No bodies, no blood, no witnesses... they simply vanish."
Taichi frowned.
"Security cameras?"
"Nothing. They disappear whenever the cameras malfunction."
The younger officer rubbed the back of his neck.
"It's honestly creepy... We've dealt with alien remnants before, but nothing like this."
Taichi slowly scanned the dark alleyways surrounding them.
His instincts... the instincts that had saved his life countless times... were whispering something.
Something was wrong. Very wrong.
Before anyone could speak—
"HELP!!"
A desperate scream shattered the silence.
The three immediately turned toward a nearby alley.
Another scream echoed.
Then... silence.
Taichi's eyes narrowed.
"Stay behind me!"
Without hesitation, he sprinted toward the sound with the two officers close behind.
As they rounded the corner—
They froze.
A terrified office worker struggled desperately as countless writhing black tendrils engulfed his body. His fingers clawed at the pavement.
"P-Please...!"
The darkness swallowed him up to his shoulders as his desperate cries echoed through the alley.
Then... he disappeared completely.
Not a trace remained.
Only silence.
And standing several meters away... something that should not exist.
Floating gently above the wet pavement was what appeared to be a black sailor-style school uniform. Its empty sleeves hung limply at its sides, its black pleated skirt swayed despite the absence of wind, and a deep red ribbon rested neatly beneath its white-striped sailor collar.
It had no face. No body. Only darkness filled its hollow interior.
Yet... the three of them could feel it staring directly at them.
A voice emerged from within the empty uniform. It sounded distorted, as though hundreds of whispers spoke together.
"...Another candidate..."
Taichi instinctively stepped forward as flames began to gather around his fists.
"...What are you?"
The empty uniform tilted its collar slightly.
"I..."
"...am the embodiment..."
"...of Greed."
The air itself seemed to grow heavier.
"I seek..."
"...a vessel."
"So many."
"So very..."
"...fragile."
"They shattered."
"They dissolved."
"They could not bear..."
"...my heart."
The officers unconsciously stepped backward. Even Taichi felt a chill crawl down his spine.
This thing... was nothing like the invaders. It radiated an ancient, suffocating malice unlike anything he had ever encountered.
His instincts screamed only one command.
Destroy it.
The flames around his fists erupted brighter.
"I don't know what you are...but I can't let you leave this alley!"
The empty uniform remained perfectly still, the darkness beneath its skirt rippled as countless black tendrils slowly emerged like living shadows.
The embodiment of Greed spoke one final sentence.
"...Then prove..."
"...that you are worthy."
Taichi prepared for the imminent fight.
