I made a small cut across the palm of Hasegawa-sensei's hand, and almost immediately, blood began pooling across her skin. She winced slightly as Samui sliced through her flesh with barely any effort, the cut opening easily from what had seemed like such a simple touch. It was not a particularly deep wound, but it was enough for the blood to begin flowing properly, which was exactly what we needed for Beelzebub to determine whether Hasegawa-sensei was compatible with Sakai.

"Don't mind if I do!" Beelzebub said cheerfully, before bringing her face closer to the wound and beginning to lick the blood from Hasegawa-sensei's hand.

She was doing it in a rather strange way, licking the blood as though it were some kind of delicacy that she wanted to savor instead of simply tasting it normally. Her movements were oddly sensual, which made the whole thing look much stranger than it probably needed to be. I could not help staring at her for several seconds, wondering whether she was actually taking the situation seriously or whether she had simply decided to make things as awkward as possible for everyone involved.

"Can't you just do it normally?" I asked.

There were probably plenty of ways she could have gone about testing the blood without making the whole thing look like some bizarre performance, but apparently Beelzebub had decided that being normal was simply not an option for her. At this point, I was not even particularly surprised. She had always been like this, so expecting her to suddenly behave sensibly was probably asking for too much.

Even Hasegawa-sensei was looking at Beelzebub strangely, and she had begun blushing because of the way Beelzebub was behaving. She kept glancing between Beelzebub and me as though she was waiting for someone to explain what was happening right now.

"I was just mimicking how you lick a pussy," Beelzebub said without the slightest bit of embarrassment. "There's nothing wrong with that, right?"

The moment she said that, Hasegawa-sensei looked directly at me and immediately blushed even harder. Her expression practically screamed that she had several questions, although she seemed to be reconsidering whether asking any of them was actually worth the embarrassment.

I could already imagine what she was thinking, and honestly, I did not particularly want to explain anything.

"Just don't mind her," I told Hasegawa-sensei. "She has a pretty nasty way with words."

"That explanation does not really make me feel better," Hasegawa-sensei muttered.

I could not really blame her for saying that.

Beelzebub continued tasting the blood for a little while longer. After a short while, she stopped and smacked her lips together, almost as though she wanted to make sure she had properly tasted it before giving her verdict.

"Her blood seems compatible enough," she finally said.

"Really?" I asked.

"Well, they do taste very similar," she said after thinking about it for a moment. "Very, very similar, so I think she'd be a good fit."

If Beelzebub was saying that, then perhaps Hasegawa-sensei really was a compatible match. Beelzebub had already tasted Morofuji, Kaori, and the others to see whether their blood would match Sakai, but she had said that their tastes were different enough that they were not suitable. Natasha also confirmed that fact.

Considering that, there was a fairly high likelihood that Hasegawa-sensei was exceptionally compatible with Sakai. Kind of a little bit anti-climactic to find someone who is compatible with her, to be honest. But it's not really right to complain, when we are pressed in time.

"I-If that's the case, then take me to Sakai-san immediately!" Hasegawa-sensei said, her expression becoming serious.

Since Sakai had already died, yet there was still a chance that we might somehow be able to save her, Hasegawa-sensei clearly wanted to get to her as quickly as possible.

I understood why she was in such a hurry. We had already lost too much time, and Sakai's condition was still unstable. If Hasegawa-sensei really was compatible with her, then delaying any further would be pointless.

"All right, but can I ask you something first?" I asked her.

"What is it?" she replied.

"Can you handle heights?" I asked.

***

"UWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!"

Hasegawa-sensei was currently clutching onto me with all her strength, almost like a cicada desperately trying to hold onto a tree because it had suddenly realized that falling was a terrible idea. Her arms were wrapped tightly around me, and from the amount of force she was using, I was starting to wonder whether I would actually have to pry her off later.

We were currently flying back toward the area where the war was taking place, after all, and traveling this way was considerably faster than trying to reach the battlefield by some slower route. Under normal circumstances, I would have considered flying to be an incredibly convenient way to travel, especially when every second mattered, but Hasegawa-sensei clearly had a completely different opinion about our current method of transportation.

"Please, Leon-san! Don't release your hold on me!" she shouted while continuing to scream, her grip around me becoming even tighter as she desperately tried to avoid looking down.

I honestly wondered how she had managed to remain conscious this long.

She had said that she could not handle heights, but apparently, her concern for Sakai was strong enough that she had been willing to put up with it anyway. Unfortunately for her, it seemed that she had seriously underestimated just how high we would be flying, because she was now holding onto me with enough strength to make it very clear that she had absolutely no intention of letting go.

"Relax, Hasegawa-sensei," I told her. "If you move around too much, you're going to fall."

...

Wait, did I just call her Hasegawa-sensei?

Well, I guess I did.

I had become so used to calling her that before everything happened that the name had simply slipped out naturally. It was not something I had consciously decided to say, and it was probably the worst possible time for that particular habit to resurface.

But the wind was roaring loudly around us, and I figured there was no way she could possibly have heard what I had just said through all that noise. With the air rushing past us, I assumed my voice had been completely swallowed up by the wind.

"W-Wha...?" she muttered.

I looked down and saw her staring at me with a rather shocked expression, and judging from her face, she had somehow managed to hear me despite the wind.

Shit, she heard me.
