Chapter 1571: Chapter 1588: Another Encounter with Nangong Yaoling 5

So now... should he be doubting his own eyes as well?

That familiar, stubborn little face was currently frowning, her delicate brows knit together, those clear, wide eyes glaring ahead in displeasure. Even her anger made her look irresistibly cute; the girl’s fair cheeks were almost translucent under the sunlight, as if tiny crystal molecules were vibrating in the air. Her figure wavered in a wash of white light, like an angel wandering out of a dream.

The man’s pupils shrank at once, and in his deep-set eyes, shock and a complicated mix of emotions surged up.

The two men opposite him were no less stunned, turning to follow his gaze. They couldn’t fathom what kind of person could make the always-cold and reserved CEO of Nangong Empire react so agitatedly, so out of character in public.

Xiaonuan felt like her luck had hit rock bottom. As she wiped the back of her hand, she berated herself for stupidly trusting a simple phone call and email so easily. Even if the other party was backed by some seemingly legitimate company, that didn’t mean the people inside weren’t scum.

"Ha! Quit pretending you’re so damn pure. Think you’re some big deal?" At that moment, the man across from her spoke again, his tone dripping with contempt and mockery. She looked up, staring at him in disbelief.

Before she could speak, the man planted both hands on the table, leaned forward with a vicious expression, and lowered his voice in a menacing warning:

"Listen up, I’m doing you a favor by taking an interest in you! If you want your script made into a movie, you’re gonna have to sleep with me!

Don’t fucking play innocent with me. Since you came out with me, you should already know this is how the game works in this industry, right? If it weren’t for your professor’s recommendation, and the fact that you’ve got a halfway decent face, you really think just because you’ve had a few days of Western schooling, I’d give a shit about your crappy script?"

Xia Xiaonuan was utterly stunned.

She had never imagined that the reason her script was "chosen" was her looks, not the words she’d written...

In that instant, the blow hit so hard she almost staggered back a step.

Just then, President Wang suddenly lunged forward and seized the chance. He wrapped an arm around Xiaonuan’s waist, steadying her, while leaning in close to her ear and murmuring, "Baby, just be mine. I promise I’ll make your script a huge hit... I’ll get the best director to shoot your work..."

"Smack—!" Xia Xiaonuan finally snapped. She tore herself out of his arms and swung her hand, landing a stinging slap across his face.

"You’re absolutely disgusting!" she shouted, grabbed her bag, and turned to leave.

But her arm was yanked back from behind.

Caught off guard, she was flung onto the chair beside her. Her back crashed into the armrest of the sofa chair, the pain so sharp it made stars explode in her vision.

"You filthy bitch, you dare hit me!" The man’s face flushed, veins bulging in his neck as he jabbed a finger at her and cursed viciously, raising his hand to smash it down at her, ready to beat her senseless.

Xiaonuan cried out and quickly threw her arms up in front of her face.

But the fist never landed. Instead, she vaguely heard a sharp "crack—".

Then a familiar tobacco scent rushed over her.

"Ah... who the fuck are you... mind your own damn business... ah... shit, that hurts..." The man’s wrist had been twisted in one brutal motion, and he howled in pain, whining as he tried to see who the hell was meddling.

Nangong Yaoling’s expression was dark and icy as he glanced at the man. With a flick of his arm, the man was sent flying, crashing to the floor and skidding more than a meter across the tiles.

The man let out a scream, clutching his wrist as he scrambled up, about to charge at Nangong Yaoling—then he caught sight of that cold, handsome face, and froze in place, his expression turning ashen, like he’d just seen death itself.
