There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!
Chapter 395 What Could This Talent Be?
The officer seemed certain Duan Fei would cooperate. He ordered his men to remove Duan Fei’s chains, then led him on a tour of the underground base.
Pointing to his own chest and then to Duan Fei’s neck, he sighed. “I didn’t want to do this, but the higher-ups don’t trust you, so they injected a subcutaneous bomb into your neck. The moment my heart stops, the bomb will detonate. The higher-ups also have a remote, so please follow our orders.”
“You sure treat your Savior well. You’ve even planned out how to kill me.”
“It’s a sign of our responsibility,” the officer said seriously. “This is the Superpower User Countermeasure Department, a division directly under the military. Our mission is to eliminate Superpower Users one by one, and you are our greatest trump card.”
Leading Duan Fei along, the officer passed by one training ground after another.
The training grounds here were extremely harsh. Duan Fei felt that some of the equipment could even be used as torture devices, yet they were apparently just part of standard training.
The trainees here were also different from ordinary people. Duan Fei felt they were walking murder weapons—the kind that could take down a god with a mortal body.
Noticing Duan Fei observing the training grounds, the officer, a self-proclaimed fan of Duan Fei’s, said proudly, “These are our training grounds, and they’re your handiwork from before. Through these grounds, we can maximize each person’s potential and turn them into elite Warriors.”
“I have a question,” Duan Fei interrupted. “Why do you need to eliminate Superpower Users?”
“Superpower Users are our enemies,” the officer said with certainty. “Not just the ones in this base, but all over the world. Superpower Users are humans who have undergone physical mutations. This Power comes from a Demon, and it constantly tempts them to slaughter humanity in order to eliminate those who are different.”
“Those who are different? So Superpower Users don’t see humans as their own kind anymore?”
“That’s right. They see humans as nothing more than lowly livestock. And that’s not far from the truth. We’ve studied it—the gap between Superpower Users and humans is greater than the gap between humans and chimpanzees. How do you see a monkey? That’s how a Superpower User sees us.”
“How many Superpower Users are there in the world right now?”
“There are 17,111 known Superpower Users. While that’s not a large number compared to the human population, they can perfectly disguise themselves as human, and we don’t have a very effective method of identifying them. We’ve tried a few methods to find them in the past, but they all failed.”
Duan Fei didn’t really believe the officer’s words.
After all, these words were coming from the man who had kidnapped him. Even if everything the officer said was true, Duan Fei would kill him first and deal with the rest of the problems later.
‘As for now… I might as well just go with the flow.’
He checked his dungeon objectives, but nothing was displayed. He wondered if this was a special setting for the prison dungeon or something else.
He couldn’t get through on FeiXin, and his connection with Jinghong was cut off. ‘I’ll have to find a way to contact Jinghong later.’
As he formulated a systematic plan for his next steps, Duan Fei looked at the shooting targets on the training ground and had an idea.
‘Since I’m just going to play along anyway, I might as well practice my shooting and try to unlock a shooting Skill.’
‘My only ranged attack is Yan Yuan, but my accuracy has always been a bit worrying. This is a good opportunity to practice.’
When the officer learned that Duan Fei wanted to practice shooting, he was overjoyed and quickly said, “Of course. I’ll go make the arrangements for you.”
The officer was fast. A few minutes later, a shooting range was cleared out. Another instructor appeared and tossed an unbranded pistol to Duan Fei.
Pointing at the target ten meters away, the instructor said, “Shoot. I want you to hit the target’s head, and every shot has to be in the ten-ring.”
Watching Duan Fei awkwardly adjust his aim, the instructor sighed. He had no idea why he’d been assigned to train such a rookie.
His rank wasn’t high enough—or rather, no one in the entire base was high enough—to know what Duan Fei signified.
In the instructor’s eyes, Duan Fei was a total rookie, maybe even the son of some high-level executive here to pad his resume.
Therefore, he had no expectations, which only made what came next all the more stunning.
Duan Fei finally managed to switch off the safety, then aimed at the target and fired in quick succession, emptying the six-round magazine.
The instructor sighed. “I knew it. With a grip like that, there’s no way he could… Holy shit!”
When the target slid into view, the instructor clearly saw six bullet holes in its head. The holes formed a perfect hexagram, with each one exactly three millimeters from its neighbors.
“Holy shit!” Duan Fei couldn’t help but exclaim as well.
“What are you shouting about?”
“I didn’t expect to be this good either.”
“No, I’m asking, what’s your name?”
“Duan Someone.”
“First time holding a gun?”
“I’ve held other ‘guns,’ but this is the first time for this kind of gun.”
The instructor clearly took that a different way.
He gave a suggestive smile, then quickly returned to normal and handed Duan Fei a different pistol.
Pointing at a target that had moved to twenty meters away, he said, “Same as before. Hit that thing in the head.”
The six gunshots sounded almost like a single report. The distant target showed the same pattern, and the instructor’s eyes gleamed with excitement.
The targets got farther and farther away, and the effective range of the firearms increased, but no matter what changed, the same pattern was always left on the target’s head.
“Good kid, you might be the most talented marksman I’ve ever seen. What were you doing before? Why are you only showing up now? If you’d come a year earlier, I guarantee all the Superpower Users would be dead by now.”
“Yeah, what a shame,” Duan Fei replied placidly.
His attention was already captured by his new Skill.
[Shooting Mastery] (Beginner): Your shooting precision is slightly increased.
The advancement path for firearm-related Professions was relatively simple: constantly switch to new firearms and continuously upgrade the relevant Skills.
Some players would pivot to Gun Combat Skill, while others would try to obtain Extraordinary Energy to make their bullets more powerful.
‘I have no need to develop in that direction. I’m only practicing my shooting to make better use of my Yan Yuan.’
Snapping out of the joy of acquiring a new Skill, Duan Fei began to wonder why.
‘Success once is a coincidence. Success twice is luck. But succeeding every single time? That’s just cheating.’
‘And speaking of cheating, I can’t help but think of my Talent Effect.’
‘I’m certain this 100% accuracy is an effect of my Talent. Maybe it’s a repeat of when I copied the Darts Guest’s Professional Skills.’
However, when he tested the theory that this was because he had copied a Skill, the question mark on his Talent didn’t disappear.
‘In other words, this has nothing to do with copying.’
‘So, what could it be?’
