There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!

Chapter 397: Your Idea Is Terrifying

  • Next Chapter

Duan Fei had three roommates in total: a fat guy, a skinny guy, and a black man.

They were also here for training. Due to a confidentiality agreement, they didn’t use their real names, addressing each other by codenames or their assigned numbers instead.

After witnessing Duan Fei’s “mysterious Eastern Qi Gong,” they quickly and efficiently cleared everything off his bed, even helping change the sheets and pillow, and thoughtfully sprayed some perfume.

Lying on the bed, Duan Fei saw that a tablet had been placed in his locker.

The tablet was light and thin, its surface covered with a privacy screen protector. From the side, all you could see was a black screen and nothing else.

After turning it on, a pre-installed program first verified Duan Fei’s irises and fingerprints before it officially booted up and prompted him to set a password.

Only after he had finished setting everything up could Duan Fei begin to use it.

The tablet was an extremely important item here. Trainees at the base were forbidden from peeking at, using, or damaging anyone else’s tablet. The slightest violation would result in solitary confinement; a major one, execution by firing squad.

On the tablet, Duan Fei found his “Personal File” left for him by the officials.

In the personal file, Duan Fei saw his birth time and hospital birth certificate, his fingerprints and palm prints, iris scans, and even a DNA test identification number.

In addition, it detailed his educational background, records of previous missions, and even the scars on his body were documented.

‘If this thing is fabricated, then they’ve done a pretty thorough job.’

From this file, Duan Fei learned that he was once the world’s number one assassin. After his partner’s death, he developed a severe mental illness, sealed his own memories, and began living the life of an ordinary person.

Now, to combat the legendary Third-level Superpower Users, an assassin like him had been reactivated and brought here to recover his strength and become an assassin who fights Superpower Users.

Looking at the information on the tablet, Duan Fei thought for a moment, then asked the black man across from him, “What did you do before this?”

“Shh!” The black man immediately tried to silence Duan Fei, but it was too late.

The moment Duan Fei finished asking, an alarm bell suddenly blared from the ceiling. The sound of footsteps rushed to Duan Fei’s door.

Then, a soldier walked in, looked at Duan Fei, and roared, “You’re not allowed to ask about others’ personal information! Didn’t you know that?”

“Actually, I wasn’t really clear on that. Is there a problem?”

“Yes! You’ve violated the rules here! Give me one hundred one-armed pushups, completed within five minutes, or you can wait for solitary confinement! Your form has to be perfect, you hear me?”

“How can you have perfect form with one arm? Isn’t perfect form with two arms?”

“Did you hear me!”

“Are you ordering me to do something?” Duan Fei asked.

“What do you think!”

“Alright, alright.”

An ordinary person would be wiped out after about thirty two-armed pushups, yet he was being asked to do them one-armed. This was clearly just hazing.

But since the man had requested it, Duan Fei would simply comply.

Without using his hands, Duan Fei crossed his arms over his chest, his toes touching the ground, and floated up and down in the air, completing one hundred no-handed pushups in a way that would make Newton turn in his grave.

Standing up, he brushed off some non-existent dust and said to the guard, whose jaw had dropped, “Is that good enough?”

“Yes, it is. Please, get some rest. I won’t disturb you any longer.”

After seeing the guard off, Duan Fei lay back down on his bed, accompanied by the suppressed gasps of his three roommates.

“That was incredible.”

“The mysterious East.”

“Kung fu boy!”

“So noisy. Shut up,” Duan Fei said.

After everyone quieted down, Duan Fei decided to first look over the rules and regulations to avoid summoning the guards again.

He opened the tablet, searched for and found the rules and regulations, and discovered that this place had a lot of rules, most of which were related to secrecy.

“Do not ask for others’ real names. Do not ask about others’ origins. Do not reveal your own real name or origin to anyone, including the guards.”

“To ensure this, there are surveillance cameras everywhere in the rooms, so please do not violate this rule.”

“Trainees have no privacy. As such, the bathhouses and toilets are also monitored.”

“This is done for your protection. Some Superpower Users can use knowledge of your past to curse and harm you, so this is all for your own good.”

Besides these privacy protections, Duan Fei also found that the requirements for training here were just as strict.

“Trainees must maintain an adequate diet and get sufficient sleep, and ensure they attend training on time every day. Violators will face penalties such as solitary confinement or execution.”

“Trainees must not leave the premises without authorization before graduation, or they will face solitary confinement or execution.”

“Trainees…”

“Trainees…”

After reading through the hundred-plus pages of rules and regulations, Duan Fei could only think that this damn place had way too many stupid rules. No wonder it felt like a prison; the only difference between this place and an actual prison was that prisons had human rights, and this place didn’t.

Having finished the rules, Duan Fei began to explore the tablet’s other functions.

The other functions were nothing more than watching movies, playing games, ordering takeout, and purchasing new items. The tablet could only connect to the camp’s local network; it couldn’t contact the outside world.

However, movies and games all required points to unlock.

Points were the hard currency here, equivalent to money.

Completing a training program or passing a challenge would earn points. Trainees were allowed to trade with points, but hoarding goods for speculation or buying low to sell high was forbidden.

Having just arrived, Duan Fei had no points in his account yet.

Just as he was about to continue reading, the black man came over and said in a friendly tone, “Hey man, it’s time for dinner.”

“Already?”

“Yep. Let’s go, I’ll explain the dos and don’ts for dinner. Also, if you don’t mind, could you help heal my lungs? I feel like I smoke too much, and my lungs are about to give out.”

“No problem.”

He cast a [Rough Healing Technique] on him, and the black man’s face took on an expression of pure bliss.

Then, he began to cough violently, hacking up a black, tar-like substance mixed with streaks of blood. It was a horrifying sight.

After he finished coughing, however, he wiped the filth from the corner of his mouth and said weakly, “Ahh, that’s better. I feel so much better. My breathing is so much easier.”

“…As long as you’re happy.”

The fat guy and the skinny guy stared at Duan Fei with increasingly fervent and excited eyes.

‘Living, breathing Eastern Martial Arts!’

The trio had already turned into Duan Fei’s fanboys. During dinner, they surrounded him, as if afraid someone would come and steal him away.

The food in the cafeteria was pretty good, with lots of meat, and the dessert afterward was delicious.

But the meal wasn’t very comfortable, because someone was staring at him the entire time.

Turning his head, Duan Fei saw a burly, muscular man glaring at him, his eyes filled with killing intent.

“Who’s that guy?” Duan Fei nudged the fat guy next to him and gestured with his eyes.

The fat guy glanced over and whispered, “He’s an assassin. He’s got a grudge against you.”

“This is the first time I’ve ever seen him.”

“The instructor you sent flying today is his boss.”

“I see…”

Duan Fei began to consider how to resolve this grudge. Finally, he whispered, “If I kill him, will I be put in solitary confinement?”

“…Kung fu boy, your way of thinking is scaring me.”
