She was putting it all on the line for her son’s future!

Beiming Qianye was a little surprised. “You agreed so quickly?”

Chen Momo said dismissively, “If you aren’t afraid, what do I have to be afraid of? If we’re getting married, then we’re getting married.”

She wasn’t the one losing out anyway!

Beiming Qianye said nothing more. At that moment, his feelings were complicated. He was glad that Chen Momo had agreed to his proposal so readily, but at the same time, he knew she had only agreed verbally; she hadn’t truly accepted him in her heart.

To make Chen Momo genuinely accept him, he would still need to invest a lot of time and effort—especially in treating her and her child well.

With this in mind, Beiming Qianye picked up a piece of beef, placed it on Chen Xiaobao’s plate, and said, “Eat more, Xiao Bao. You have to eat a lot to grow tall and strong!”

Chen Xiaobao nodded and said loudly, “Thank you, Mr. Qianye!”

After dinner, Chen Momo and Beiming Qianye strolled side by side in the courtyard. The mansion’s grounds were massive. Had she not seen it with her own eyes, it would have been hard to imagine a single person living in such a colossal estate.

“By the way, you still haven’t told me why there’s no snow at your place.” Remembering this crucial detail, Chen Momo stopped walking and looked around his estate.

This sprawling residence was exactly as it had been before the apocalypse. There were no changes whatsoever. Logically speaking, this estate should have been frozen shut by the heavy snow.

Beiming Qianye paused his steps. “Because this blizzard is man-made, not a natural disaster.”

Chen Momo was stunned. “Man-made?”

Beiming Qianye nodded. “That’s right. Man-made. You still remember the shooting at Han City Base, don’t you?”

Chen Momo nodded. “I remember.”

She had been in the cafeteria at the time. Because of that shooting, she had even gone out of her way to splurge on three bulletproof vests. She hadn’t expected Beiming Qianye to know about the incident at Han City Base as well.

Beiming Qianye continued, “There’s a gang called Death Dragon. For years, the goal of their operations has been to wipe out all humanity on Earth. They are the ones who created this apocalyptic blizzard.”

“They can create a global disaster?” Chen Momo asked in astonishment.

“There is nothing technology cannot do,” Beiming Qianye replied. “This gang developed a special powder and sprayed it into the atmosphere to block out the sun’s rays. As a result, global temperatures plummeted, and the blizzards descended upon us.”

“Then why is there no snow where you live?” Chen Momo asked.

Beiming Qianye spoke in a calm tone. “Death Dragon understands high technology, but don’t forget that I have my own specialized tech personnel as well. When the blizzards hit, an anti-snowfall technology was deployed over my mansion, preventing the estate from being buried in snow.”

Deep in thought, Chen Momo said, “So our enemy isn’t the blizzard, but this gang called Death Dragon.”

Beiming Qianye nodded. “Exactly. You are completely right. Death Dragon’s goal is to create global mass casualty events. If we don’t completely eradicate this gang, it’s hard to imagine what might happen next. Therefore, to prevent any further large-scale catastrophic events, we must focus all our efforts on wiping out this dark syndicate.”

It dawned on Chen Momo that Beiming Qianye knew far more of the truth than she did.

Beiming Qianye turned his head and looked at her, his eyes filled with deep concern. “It’s very dangerous and chaotic lately. I hope you can protect yourself well.”

“Thank you for your concern,” Chen Momo said. “I will protect myself.”

Beiming Qianye nodded. “If you’re worried about not being able to take good care of Xiao Bao, you can leave him with me for now. This will always be the safest place. As long as Xiao Bao is by my side, no one can hurt him. And you… if you are willing to stay here as well…”

Chen Momo shook her head with a firm attitude. “I can’t stay here. I know this is a safe haven, but if I always stay in a safe place, then all my plans will be rendered useless. However, I might leave Xiao Bao here.”

Chen Momo had thought it through clearly; her business was only just beginning. She couldn’t just hide here for safety and turn a blind eye to her enterprise at Han City Base.

Seeing the tenacity in her eyes, Beiming Qianye knew she was a stubborn person. He sighed and didn’t force the issue.

To prepare for the unknown challenges ahead, Chen Momo intensified her physical training. She resumed her Taekwondo practice, and alongside it, taught herself several new martial arts moves. At the very least, taking on two or three attackers at once shouldn’t be a problem anymore.

Despite Beiming Qianye’s repeated attempts to make her stay, Chen Momo ultimately only spent three days at his estate before deciding to return to Han City Base.

Xu Xiaoka and Chen Xiaobao originally wanted to return to Han City Base with her, but Chen Momo refused.

Chen Xiaobao tilted his little head up and asked, “Mommy, why won’t you let Xiao Bao go back with you?”

Chen Momo rubbed his little head and said softly, “The current situation still isn’t very clear, and Mommy has a lot of things to do. I’m afraid I won’t be able to take good care of you. You and Sister Xiao Ka stay here for now, okay?”

Xu Xiaoka said worriedly, “But Sister Momo, can you take care of yourself all alone?”

“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine,” Chen Momo replied.

She couldn’t afford to be away for too long. Her food window and fish pond were both at Han City Base. If she abandoned everything there just for her own safety, then all the things she had painstakingly built in this post-apocalyptic world would be snatched away by others.

The people in this apocalypse were like wolves. Whenever they saw a piece of meat, they would naturally pounce without hesitation and tear it apart to feast on it. Therefore, she had to return to Han City Base as soon as possible!

Beiming Qianye looked at Chen Momo’s stubborn face and said tentatively, “Actually, you don’t need to care so much about those things… If you’re willing to stay here, I can give you far more than that…”

Beiming Qianye was more than capable of giving her much more. As far as he was concerned, there was absolutely no need for her to risk her life over a fish pond and a food window at Han City Base. Staying by his side was the safest place she could be.

However, Chen Momo refused without hesitation.

“No, I must return to Han City Base,” Chen Momo said in a resolute tone. “What you give me and what I own myself are two completely different things. I built everything at Han City Base with my own two hands, piece by piece. It’s the empire I carved out for myself, and I can’t just abandon it.”
