Chapter 360: Chapter 177: Threatening Wei Luyao to Hype a CP?

"P-President Zhang, what did I do?"

Liu Wenbin was on the receiving end of a furious tirade, his face flushing red then draining of color. His expression was as ugly as if he’d eaten something foul.

The crucial thing was, he was completely baffled by the scolding. He didn’t even know what he was being yelled at for.

’Forcing a ship?’

He had no idea what that was about.

"Your nephew’s got some real balls, doesn’t he? Threatening Wei Luyao, demanding she get shipped with him, and if she didn’t agree, he’d have his director uncle eliminate her."

"Did I or did I not tell you that Wei Luyao is my sister-in-law? That she’s the key to this show’s ratings? Is this how you fucking do your job as a director?"

"Now her boyfriend has called me directly! You’ve made me lose all my face, you son of a bitch! The more I think about it, the angrier I get..."

The more Old Zhang spoke, the more heated he became, slamming his other hand on the desk until it went numb.

"Huh? I... I didn’t know, President Zhang! I really didn’t know about this!"

"I already wrote the script with her as the undisputed female lead! How could I possibly threaten her with elimination?"

"This was my nephew... Pah, the actions of that little brat who just happens to share my last name! It has nothing to do with me, President Zhang."

Director Liu finally understood what was going on. So, that little whelp Liu Yufan had used his name to threaten Wei Luyao.

Threatening someone else might have been one thing, but Wei Luyao was someone President Zhang had repeatedly instructed him to take good care of. On top of that, she was the key to the show’s ratings.

For Liu Yufan to be so blind as to offend someone like her... wasn’t he just asking for death?

But asking for death was his own business; dragging him down too was another matter.

So he immediately and completely cut ties. ’What nephew?’

’We just have the same last name. We’re not close at all.’

"No matter how you spin it, his grandfather is still your father. Now, pack your things and come back to the company. The show is being handed over to Old Liao."

"As for you, there’s a countryside-themed variety show you can go work on. If you can’t get the ratings up, you’re fired."

"And before you go, take your nephew with you. Use whatever excuse you want. Find a replacement from the pool of backup interns who were preparing to challenge for a spot."

"It’s just the first day, so reshooting everything will be simple enough."

Old Zhang didn’t listen to his explanation. Maybe he truly didn’t know, but what happened, happened. Someone had to take responsibility.

Besides, hadn’t he already given him a chance?

He and his nephew—the pair of them had to leave the show.

Otherwise, there would be no way to answer to Chen Mo.

"O... Okay, President Zhang..."

Hearing this, Liu Wenbin wanted to say something, but he didn’t know what. In the end, he could only nod bitterly, his face a mask of helplessness.

He had worked so hard to finally become the show’s chief director, only to be dragged into a pit by his idiot nephew.

Now he was being exiled to a countryside variety show. Raising the ratings for that kind of program was easier said than done.

With this exile, all his years of work had been for nothing.

"Before you leave, give her a sincere apology. If she doesn’t accept it, then don’t even bother going to that countryside show..."

Old Zhang added as another reminder.

"I understand, President Zhang."

Liu Wenbin knew what President Zhang meant.

If Wei Luyao didn’t accept his apology, he would have to find another line of work entirely.

But if Wei Luyao were to publicize this incident, his reputation would be completely ruined.

’Would there even be a way out then?’

After hanging up, Liu Wenbin returned to the film crew, his mind clearly elsewhere.

"Director Liu, we’re ready to start recording the afternoon segment."

Old Liao, the assistant director, said to Liu Wenbin.

"Let’s hold off on that for a moment, Old Liao. President Zhang said the show is in your hands from now on."

Liu Wenbin said to Old Liao, his voice laced with dejection.

"Huh?"

Old Liao froze for a second, a look of confusion in his eyes.

The surrounding staff also looked at him, bewildered.

"Make an announcement. Liu Yufan has to withdraw from the show due to a sudden serious illness and can no longer participate in the recording."

"Find a replacement from the backup interns and get them over here. We’re going to reshoot this episode."

After giving the instruction, Liu Wenbin sank powerlessly into his chair and began to think about how he was going to apologize to her.

Clearly, her boyfriend’s identity and background were extraordinary.

He had to think carefully about what kind of apology she would accept.

"A serious illness?"

Hearing Liu Wenbin’s words, everyone subconsciously glanced over at the office area, where Liu Yufan was sitting, energetically tapping away at his keyboard.

’Does that look like someone with a serious illness?’

But since the director had said so, they naturally had to follow orders.

So, someone headed over to the office area to make the announcement.

"Everyone, please stop what you’re doing. There’s a last-minute announcement."

"Intern Liu Yufan has to withdraw from the show due to a sudden serious illness and can no longer participate in the recording."

"A new intern will be joining us shortly. We may have to re-record the initial introductions."

The staff member announced this to the ten interns.

Upon hearing the announcement, everyone was stunned for a moment.

Then, in unison, they all turned to look at Liu Yufan, their eyes filled with shock and confusion.

’Isn’t he sitting right there, perfectly fine?’

’How did he suddenly come down with a serious illness?’

When Liu Yufan heard the announcement, he was utterly dumbfounded, his eyes wide with bewilderment.

’I’m the only Liu Yufan among the ten interns, right?’

’They’re talking about me, right?’

’They’re speaking Chinese, right? So why can’t I understand what they’re saying?’

’What do they mean, I’ve suddenly come down with a serious illness?’

’Wouldn’t I know if I was sick or not?’

’And a serious illness, at that?’

He felt completely lost, his mind momentarily unable to process what was happening.

Only Wei Luyao showed a flicker of contemplation in her beautiful eyes.

She had a good idea of what had just happened.

’Chen Mo must have made his move.’
