Sir Wu Zhong remained silent for a long time. He only regained his senses when little Xuanxuan started wailing in his arms. After looking lovingly at his great-grandson, Sir Wu Zhong finally raised his head to Wu Shengnan. "This man of yours is remarkable," he said.

Wu Shengnan remained silent, only nodding lightly.

Sir Wu Zhong handed little Xuanxuan to the nearby nanny, instructing her to fetch a baby bottle to feed the child. Then, he slowly said, "Your father worked hard for thirty years to barely get a glimpse of the entrance to that circle. Who would have thought that your husband would enter that circle so much sooner, and in this way? I... I... I just don't know what to say."

Sir Wu Zhong was unsure whether to laugh or cry; in the end, he could only let out a long sigh.

Du Heng might have made it into that circle, but did this signify a change in his status? Had he become unassailable? What a joke. Even if he made it in, he was only a minor figure who treated patients. There was no talk of a meteoric rise in status, let alone the notion that his power and influence would greatly increase. Even a fool wouldn't dare to dream such a dream.

But why had both Wu Zhong and Wu Shengnan become so excited and surprised?

The answer was simple: Du Heng's information network and web of relationships had undergone a fundamental change.

Even now, when Wu Shengnan's father goes to the Capital, no matter who he wants to meet—even if it's just a minor department head—realistically, they might not give him the time of day. If the connection isn't strong enough, things are simply handled through official channels.

But now, even this small change brought about by Du Heng could serve to bridge such gaps.

In the past, within the Wu family, Du Heng was Wu Shengnan's husband—a promising young man, a junior worth cultivating. Even though they were very fond of Du Heng, and Du's capabilities were more than sufficient, ultimately, he was the one who needed them.

Now, with this small change, they might be the ones needing Du Heng's assistance in the future.

Wu Shengnan sat and chatted with her grandfather for a while. However, she soon felt the conversation take a slightly odd turn. Afterwards, with the nanny's help, she gathered the baby's belongings and went downstairs, preparing to head home.

As she went downstairs, Wu Shengnan didn't call Kang Zhirong. She figured he might have already left and didn't want to disturb him.

Moreover, Kang Zhirong was Du Heng's employee, not their family's tenant farmer. It didn't sit right with her to constantly bother him with personal matters.

Upon reaching the entrance of the residential complex, Wu Shengnan suddenly stopped.

Not far ahead, there was a cake shop that made excellent small pastries and also offered beverages.

Before she fell in love, whenever Wu Shengnan visited her grandfather, she would always stop by the shop to pack some small cakes and pastries to take back. If she had ample time, she would sit by the window, sip a cup of milk tea, and enjoy a few of her favorite small pastries. Even the worst of moods would lift, and these moments always brought her great comfort.

But after she started dating Du Heng, and also because of her job, she rarely visited her grandfather's place anymore. Furthermore, worried about gaining weight, she had consciously started staying away from these high-calorie foods, striving to present a perfect version of herself to Du Heng.

And just like that, time had flown. Nearly two years had passed.

Now that she was married and had a baby, and since she had just given birth and was still in her breastfeeding period, she cared less about her figure. More importantly, she felt a craving.

It wasn't the taste of the cake she craved, but rather a longing to recapture the feeling of her girlhood.

Sigh, in the blink of an eye, a young girl becomes a young wife. It feels like such a loss all of a sudden.

The shop's window facing the street was a large, floor-to-ceiling glass pane. Inside, by the window, were two small tables, perfect for someone alone or for a couple in love.

At that moment, a striking young couple was seated at one of these tables, on which three or four colorful small cakes were arranged.

It wasn't clear what they were chatting about, but the girl seemed very animated and appeared to be leading the conversation.

The boy seemed a bit reserved but smiled throughout, evidently enjoying the atmosphere.

Suddenly, the girl stopped talking. Holding the small cake spoon in her mouth, her face beamed with delight, her eyes closed as she savored the confection.

After three or four seconds in this pose, the girl opened her eyes. With the same spoon that had just been in her mouth, she scooped a small piece of cake and naturally held it out to the boy.

She showed a hint of coquettishness, as if wanting the boy across from her to also taste this 'once-in-a-lifetime' delicacy.

However, whether it was out of shyness or perhaps distaste for the spoon that had been in the girl's mouth, he smiled and politely declined her kind offer.

But the girl was insistent. Her shoulders swayed slightly, lips pouted, her eyes revealing a playful petulance, yet the hand extended towards the boy remained firmly in the air.

It seemed the girl was determined to make the boy eat that piece of cake today.

The boy hesitated, his gaze wavering, clearly struggling to resist the girl's charmingly petulant offensive.

After hesitating for two seconds, the boy's expression firmed. However, instead of eating the cake the girl offered, he leaned back and, with a wave of his hand, refused the slightly intimate gesture.
