Since everyone agreed, discussing it with Du Ping in the evening was merely a formality. Wu Shengnan continued on this topic, casually chatting with her Sister-in-law about how they would receive the guests.

However, they already had experience from inviting the villagers to their wedding, so they certainly wouldn't face any major issues this time.

Just as they were enjoying their conversation, Wu Shengnan received a call from her father.

"Nannan, didn't you say you were coming home? Why haven't you arrived yet?"

"My Sister-in-law is still in her confinement period, and I've only just finished mine. It wouldn't be appropriate for me to visit. Anyway, it's only two or three days more. We'll meet on the day of the Baby Steps."

Wu Shengnan's father sounded quite displeased. "Such old-fashioned notions! Our family isn't so particular about these things. Just come if you want to. Besides, you've been back for three days, and I still haven't seen my eldest grandson. What's this all about?"

"Alright, I knew you were blaming me in your heart, you silly girl," Wu Shengnan's father said softly. "You know Dad's job is busy; it really couldn't be helped. How about this: I'll have your brother come pick you up right now. You get ready."

With that, he hung up the phone, giving Wu Shengnan no chance to object.

Wu Shengnan, mobile phone in hand after the call ended, looked helplessly at it, then at Zhang Sumei beside her.

Zhang Sumei smiled. "Alright then, your dad has made the decision. What are you hesitating for? I'll go pack some more things for the child."

"Thank you, Sister-in-law."

"Nonsense, we're family; there's no need for such formalities," Zhang Sumei said softly as she packed. "But when you get to your parents' home, it's best not to go into your other sister-in-law's room. She'll be there anyway. She can come out to the living room to chat with you. That way, she won't feel uneasy about it."

Wu Shengnan smiled and promised to follow Zhang Sumei's suggestion.

Going home was, of course, a joyous occasion. Especially now that she was a mother, her emotions were vastly different from before. Yet, once she began living with her parents day in and day out again, Wu Shengnan found she couldn't quite recapture the feeling of being an unmarried girl.

For Du Wangyou's Baby Steps, her father couldn't be there, but her paternal uncle and Uncle Kang bustled about, arranging everything perfectly.

The two of them ensured all of Wu Shengnan's connections were well looked after, and every single one of Du Heng's contacts was invited.

As a result, even though it was just a child's Baby Steps, the scale of the event was no less grand than Du Heng and Wu Shengnan's own wedding.

"My friends, please eat and drink to your heart's content! I'm so sorry I can't be there; work has me tied up," Du Heng said in the video, as Wu Shengnan held her mobile phone. He cupped his fists, going from table to table on screen to offer his apologies. It was a remarkably novel sight.

Everyone at each table cheerfully greeted the Du Heng on screen, all reassuring him that it was no problem and that his job was more important.

Once all the necessary apologies were made, Wu Shengnan brought the mobile phone back to the main table.

"You've worked hard, dear," Du Heng said from the screen.

"I haven't done much; Big Brother and Xiao Kang handled everything."

"Then please thank Xiao Kang for me."

"Aren't you going to thank Big Brother?"

"No need to thank Big Brother. It's only natural for him to run errands for his niece," Du Heng chuckled smugly in the video. "Honestly, Big Brother is family; he'd be upset if we formally thanked him. But you really must thank Xiao Kang properly."

Wu Shengnan glanced up and saw Kang Zhirong in the distance, busy encouraging everyone to eat and drink.

Behind Kang Zhirong, his attractive female assistant, a wine bottle in hand, trailed closely after him.

Honestly, if people didn't know what today's event was, seeing Kang Zhirong and his assistant—their proximity and how they worked together—one would easily mistake them for the couple getting married.

"Did you hear what I said?" Du Heng asked from the video when Wu Shengnan didn't respond, his voice a little louder.

Wu Shengnan glanced at her mobile phone, then sighed. "I wasn't going to tell you, but... well, you should see for yourself." With that, she turned the mobile phone's camera.

"What did you want to sh—" Du Heng began, sounding puzzled. Before he could finish, he saw the scene captured by the video. After a slight pause, he remarked, "Who's that girl with Xiao Kang? She's dressed quite... quite fashionably. Is she his girlfriend? She's too far away; I can't make her out clearly."

Wu Shengnan switched the camera angle back and quietly told her husband about Kang Zhirong and his female assistant.

"Honey, I don't mean anything by it. Xiao Kang isn't married, and he has the right to choose. But this assistant of his... every time I see her, I get this uneasy feeling. She just doesn't seem like the settling-down type."

Wu Shengnan sighed softly. "I'm worried she might deceive Xiao Kang. It would be awful if his chance at a happy life gets terribly disrupted because of her."
