Chapter 227: Chapter 225: Superpower Deck

New Country, downtown Akia.

Looking at the scarred, middle-aged man before him, Fang Can had come straight here after the man contacted him.

In response to Fang Can’s inquiry, Ji Donglai smiled.

"That’s right. I sought you out to get a better understanding of your strength. It’ll help me place you in the right Otherworld exploration team."

"You’re a physical-type Martial Artist. Go ahead, hit me with one attack. I want to see how strong you are," Ji Donglai said confidently.

Hearing this, Fang Can hesitated. He only knew this man was the leader of the superpowered and that his ability, according to the King of Hacks, was called "Wealth Commands the Gods," but he didn’t know any specifics.

’But on second thought, even going all out, I can barely fight a Third Turn to a standstill. This man is a Country-level ability user. What do I have to worry about?’

"Alright, here I come."

Fang Can took a deep breath, a restraint ring already fastened to his arm to suppress most of his abilities.

As the muscles in his arm bulged, his body became like a volcano on the verge of erupting.

He took a single step, the force of it gouging a three-meter-wide crater in the ground behind him, and his fist instantly appeared before Ji Donglai.

BOOM!

The terrifying roar was accompanied by a devastating shockwave. The mere force of the punch obliterated the building behind them.

The once-intact building was reduced to rubble, and the air filled with a rain of dust and debris.

But Ji Donglai, who had taken the full force of the punch to his face, was completely unharmed. He was even smiling at Fang Can.

"Not bad, not bad at all. That punch cost me at least two million."

Ji Donglai said, completely unscathed, as he gently rubbed his cheek.

"Two million? What exactly is your ability?" Fang Can asked curiously, pulling back his fist.

"Wealth Commands the Gods. It allows me to convert the value of transactions into things like power, defense, and lifespan."

Ji Donglai smiled. "Because I’m the leader of the New Country, the entire New Country is my property. The GDP generated from every transaction can be counted as my money."

"After I became a Country-level ability user, roughly one dollar of GDP can allow me to block a one-ton attack for one second, or allow me to teleport a distance of ten meters," Ji Donglai said slowly.

"Isn’t... isn’t that invincible?" Fang Can said in surprise. "You could gain a nearly infinite value by raising prices or through frequent free trading."

"Do you think this is some kind of idealistic Martial Dao or some bullshit conceptual ability?" Ji Donglai said, exasperated.

"The value of every transaction is determined by a complex algorithm and is tied to its overall worth. It is what it is. Fake transactions will only lead to value inflation, which then reduces the purchasing power of each point of value."

"For example, if one dollar could originally block one ton of force, after value inflation, one dollar might only be able to block a hundred grams, or even just one gram of force."

"The more robust the country’s monetary system, the stronger my superpower’s purchasing power. We can only adapt to the superpower; we can’t make the superpower adapt to me."

"That’s still terrifying."

Fang Can mentally compared this to the New Country’s publicly announced GDP, which was nearly 100 trillion this year.

’And that’s just the public figure. Considering the speed of their secret technological development, if they expand into the whole universe, this ability will just keep getting stronger as their territory grows.’

’An output of 100 trillion tons... a single punch could flatten an entire country.’

"Your current strength is barely adequate. Now, let me tell you about the core team for this mission."

Ji Donglai said, "The main team we’re putting together to face the Fourth Turn threat from the Otherworld will be you, me, the Divine Nullifier, the Divinity, the King of Willpower, the King of Hacks, and the Spacetime Warper."

"First up is the Spacetime Warper, a City-level ability user. His power lets him fold and attach space, which makes him the core of our configuration."

"He can use his ability to create a pocket dimension on my body to carry the rest of you."

"Next, the Divine Nullifier. Their ability creates a power-suppression field and a force barrier. It can nullify all special abilities within a thousand-meter radius and block any physical attack under two thousand tons."

"Then there’s the King of Willpower, who can completely link our minds together and defend against mental attacks."

"Then there’s your luck ability, which grants immunity to any instant-death effects. In a scenario like a legacy trial that resembles a board game, it also guarantees you the first move."

"After that, we need the Divinity. She can enhance other people’s superpowers, boosting Continent Level users tenfold and Country-level users threefold."

"Finally, the King of Hacks will be our wildcard. If we find ourselves needing a specific ability, he can just borrow it."

"With this lineup, our offense and defense will be virtually flawless," Ji Donglai said smugly.

For the upcoming battle, he was essentially bringing half of the New Country’s assets with him. While it might not be enough to steamroll the entire Otherworld, they should have no problem dealing with any single one of its nations.

After all, the one weakness of the superpowered compared to Idealistic Martial Artists was the lack of flexibility in team composition.

Those Martial Artists could choose whatever abilities they wanted, unlike the superpowered, who were basically drawing from a blind box. Their combat lineups could only be picked from the pool of existing ability users.

If their luck was bad and their team composition was lacking, and they didn’t have strong personal defenses, things could go south very quickly.

After hearing Ji Donglai’s explanation, Fang Can had to agree that their lineup seemed a little too perfect, practically ideal in every way.

After a moment of thought, Fang Can asked, "Should we add a healer? Someone to help us recover from the exhaustion of using our powers long-term."

"That could work. A lot of people signed up for the Otherworld mission this time. Most of them are weak, but it’s the thought that counts. I’ll see if I can find someone with that kind of ability."

Ji Donglai scratched his head lightly. "If that doesn’t work, I’ll swallow my pride and go borrow some ability users from other countries."

"Other countries have superpowered people, too?" Fang Can asked, his curiosity piqued.

Because of the New Country’s isolationist policy, Fang Can only knew that other modern countries existed, but he had no idea what they were like.

"Of course there are. Otherwise, why do you think most people in the New Country are Asian?"

Ji Donglai said, "After the Great Collapse, any human could awaken a superpower. That naturally included white and black people."

"But the white people wanted to establish a democracy, and the black people wanted to establish a dictatorship. None of them agreed with our ideology, so we’ve had very little contact with them."

"Still, they’re superpowered at the end of the day. It shouldn’t be a problem for me to swallow my pride and borrow a few Country-level and Continent-level users."

"If by some chance we lose this battle, the New Country might be completely wiped out. Then we’d probably be absorbed into one of those federations run by the white people," Ji Donglai said seriously.
