This High Martial World is Too Crazy!!!
Chapter 231 - 229: The Superhumans Within the Dragon Group
After flying with "Shallow Solitude" for over ten minutes using his force field, Fang Can turned back.
On the way, the young girl asked about her parents.
Fang Can could only awkwardly explain that her parents had been "arranged for an early graduation" by Ji Donglai for ignoring their daughter's bullying.
Fortunately, the girl's reaction was rather placid. It seemed she truly had no feelings for her biological parents, so he was able to move on after a few simple words.
They traveled all the way to Akia. The largest building in the city center was the Dragon Group's headquarters. Including its above-ground and underground sections, it had 150 floors in total.
As for the building's shape, it looked like a giant middle finger pointing toward the sky.
The first time Fang Can saw an illustration of it in a textbook, he knew it must have been designed by some bored, dumbass person with superpowers.
He brought the girl down to the ground, and the armed guards standing watch all saluted him in unison.
Now an expert at ignoring the behavior of these NPCs, Fang Can pointed at the building ahead and smiled. "After I get you registered and assigned a personal operator, my welcoming duties will be complete."
"Operator?" the girl asked, confused.
"They're basically servants who solve your problems for you," Fang Can explained. "If you need anything or run into any trouble, you can just tell your operator. They can handle most things."
The girl nodded obediently. After following Fang Can into the headquarters, she saw five receptionists at the front desk.
Noticing Fang Can and the girl enter, a sweet-looking receptionist smiled.
"Lord Fang Can, we received prior notice. Thank you for bringing Lady 'Shallow Solitude' here. We will now arrange for her identity registration."
Following the instructions in the orientation manual, Fang Can said to the girl, "You go with the front desk staff to pick out your operator. I'm going to head upstairs and check things out."
Leaving the girl downstairs, Fang Can walked toward the elevator with a hint of anticipation.
The entire population of the New Country was over two billion, but among them, there were no more than five thousand people with superpowers. It could be said that they were even rarer than Martial Artists from the Otherworld who had reached the Heaven-Ascending Road level.
And right now, the Dragon Group headquarters was arguably the place with the highest concentration of people with superpowers in the entire country.
Compared to interacting with the completely subservient NPCs outside, once they got bored of it, those with superpowers much preferred talking to others of equal standing.
Therefore, there were at least several hundred of them in residence on any given day.
After checking the floor directory, Fang Can selected the thirty-second floor and went in.
This floor was decorated to look like a medieval tavern and was clearly a lounge area for those with superpowers. As soon as Fang Can walked in, he saw a dozen or so people sprawled across the sofas, completely wasted.
To be honest, the scene before him was a lot better than he had expected.
In Fang Can's mind, he'd imagined he would find something like a few good-looking, ordinary women chained up by the neck with dog collars.
But everything was unexpectedly clean and tidy, with no signs of any debauchery.
Or rather, this was how it should be.
After all, every person with superpowers had a different personality. If someone started acting out of line here, it would displease the others.
To accommodate everyone else, they would subconsciously restrain their kinks while in this building.
"Well now, a rare guest." As Fang Can was observing his surroundings, a surprised voice spoke up beside him.
His gaze followed the sound, and he saw a handsome man with purple hair, dressed in an alternative, almost scenester-like style, looking at him.
"It's rare to see you here. I was starting to think you'd forgotten all about us big bros."
Purple Robe's words drew the attention of those nearby, and the others noticed the young man who had just walked in.
"Hey, it's Fang Can! Come have a drink with us," a man with a vertical eye on his forehead beckoned.
"You haven't visited once since you got famous. Boss Ji told us you were training and that we shouldn't bother you, but that's just being a stranger."
As they spoke, Fang Can noticed a man in the corner filming with some equipment. "What are you... filming?"
'We're getting some footage to post online. Want to join our lifestyle channel? With your fame right now, you'd bring in a ton of traffic.'
A voice suddenly echoed in Fang Can's mind. Before he could respond, it continued, 'Don't be surprised. It's just simple Mind Reading and Telepathy.'
Following the voice, Fang Can saw the three-eyed man blink.
Curious, Fang Can silently sat down on a sofa. The handsome, purple-haired man then asked, "There's a variety show in a couple of days. Are you interested?"
"A variety show?"
"Yeah, a variety show. Your popularity nationwide exploded after Carnival Day. If you debut with us, you'll be a top-tier star instantly," Purple Robe said.
"After all, we have all the money and power we could want. Our superpowers aren't good for much besides, like, lighting a cigarette. The only thing that's still kind of fun is being a national celebrity and flexing on normal people."
"Aren't they about to start promoting the Otherworld's Martial Dao? Boss Ji is planning to organize a national Martial Dao tournament to go along with the government's policy. I heard you've already reached the First Turn. Interested in being a mentor or something?" the three-eyed man asked.
With a battle in the Otherworld looming, Fang Can was in no mood for this kind of thing. Being a mentor to a group of Martial Artists who had just managed Qi Induction was far beneath him.
Besides, he had a feeling that if he agreed, he'd get sucked into some kind of "try not to laugh" challenge vortex. Fang Can waved his hand in refusal.
"Well, I have an opening for a male lead in an AV. Wanna be the star?" another person with superpowers asked from the side.
'An AV lead?' Fang Can thought, surprised.
"Oh, I'm planning to shoot an epic masterpiece. I'm going to find 100 beautiful women, use the highest-definition equipment and the most professional cinematographers, then find a handsome guy to film a high-class AV."
"Then I'll release it for free. The whole country will be eternally grateful," said a man in sunglasses with an artistic air about him.
'Well, that's a lifestyle choice,' Fang Can thought, speechless. Just then, he felt a woman press up against him from behind. "You guys from the 'artsy' circle, stop trying to corrupt our dear Xiaofang."
Sitting on the sofa, Fang Can felt his head sink as two huge bombs landed on top of it.
A slender hand began to gently massage his temples. "Little brother Fang Can, want to go out and have some fun with your big sis later?"
Seeing the excited looks from his "dear family" all around, Fang Can felt like he'd fallen into a den of wolves. He stood up coolly and said:
"I just remembered there's a new recruit registering downstairs. I'm going to go check on her."
After speaking, he used his force field to push away the two "bombs" on his head and walked out. If he didn't run now, this "family" of his might actually invite him to a party.
