Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable
Chapter 157: Brooke York Driven Away by Security
Chapter 157: Chapter 157: Brooke York Driven Away by Security
Chloe York was sleeping when she heard someone pounding violently on her door. She thought it was a burglar.
She looked through the peephole and saw it was Brooke York. Not wanting to deal with the hysterical Brooke, she called security directly.
A short while later, she heard security dragging Brooke away. Brooke had refused to cooperate at first, and the male guard hadn’t dared to touch her, so he called a female guard to help remove her.
’It really is great to be rich,’ Chloe thought. ’You have to live in a high-end community like this. Otherwise, if I ran into a psycho like Brooke, I’d have to go out and deal with her myself.’
As security dragged her out, Brooke York felt even more resentful and upset. She started cursing at the guards.
If the guard hadn’t seen how young Brooke was and felt he couldn’t ruin her future, he would have called the police long ago. In the end, he just retreated into the security booth and ignored her.
Brooke eventually calmed down. She wasn’t afraid she couldn’t find Chloe; she could confront her at school tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Chloe had another comfortable sleep. By the time she woke up, it was already evening. She ordered takeout, scrolled through her phone after eating, and didn’t go to bed until after 11 PM.
The next day, Chloe had just arrived at school when she ran into Brooke.
The moment she saw Chloe, Brooke strode up to her. "Chloe York, I hope you’re happy now. This was your goal all along, wasn’t it? If you wanted to break the engagement, then just break it! Why did you have to trick the Prescott Family into breaking their engagement with me? That was supposed to be *my* engagement!"
"I didn’t fight you for your engagement. Didn’t I break mine to get out of your way?"
"You call that getting out of my way? The Prescott Family broke off the engagement because of you, but they’re not continuing it with me."
"Then how were you supposed to proceed if I *didn’t* break off the engagement? The contract was between Ethan Prescott and me. Once we ended it, you two were free to get together, weren’t you?"
"Chloe York, stop playing word games with me! You’re the one who brainwashed that old hag, Sophia Quinn, and told her family not to ally with ours through marriage! Chloe, how can you be so vicious? After all, you enjoyed the benefits of the York Family for more than a decade. And this is how you treat the family? How can you repay their kindness like this? You ungrateful wretch!"
"Brooke York, don’t try to act so high and mighty. Didn’t you enjoy the kindness of my parents who raised you? Besides, I remember saying more than once that this is all your mother’s fault. She’s the one who switched us at birth."
"No, that’s not right! It’s your fault! It’s all your fault! It’s you! You must have said something to them! That’s why they’re so displeased with me."
At this point, Brooke couldn’t listen to reason anymore. After all, her hopes had been so high, and now her disappointment was just as deep. She simply couldn’t accept this reversal of fortune.
So, she didn’t think it was because she had left a bad impression on Sophia Quinn, nor did she believe Ethan Prescott disliked her. She was convinced it was all Chloe’s fault. Chloe must have said something to make them act this way.
Since Brooke was being completely unreasonable, Chloe didn’t want to waste her breath on her.
"Think whatever you want. All I did was end my engagement to Ethan Prescott and get out of your way. It’s your own fault you couldn’t seize the opportunity. That’s your problem. Stop acting crazy in front of me."
With that, Chloe turned and left, completely ignoring Brooke.
Meanwhile, the Prescott Family wanted to distance themselves from Brooke York. They were worried the York Family would use the supposed engagement to do things that would harm the Prescott Family’s reputation. So, the Prescott Group issued a public notice online, officially announcing the cancellation of the engagement and stating that the two families no longer had any connection.
Additionally, the Prescott Family also released a statement in their own name, announcing that they were formally recognizing the college entrance exam’s top scorer, Chloe York, as their goddaughter.
These two announcements immediately blew up online.
A slew of trending topics appeared, and under them, comments flooded in one after another.
[Oh my god, the Prescotts canceled their engagement with the top scorer, and now they’ve adopted her as their goddaughter! She went from being a potential daughter-in-law of a rich family to a true heiress.]
[Chloe York’s life script is amazing. She’s really made her own way to the top. She went from being the fake heiress to the top scorer, and now she’s a real heiress.]
[So the York Family’s real heiress, Brooke York, isn’t marrying into the Prescott Family either?]
[To the person above, is it possible the Prescotts just don’t think the real heiress is good enough?]
Chloe had just gotten back to her place when her phone suddenly rang. The name "Stella Winters" flashed on the screen. It was an overseas call from her good friend who was studying abroad.
She raised an eyebrow slightly, swiped to answer, and held the phone to her ear. She spoke first, her voice soft, "Hello, Stella."
Stella Winters’s clear and excited voice immediately came through from the other end. Despite the great distance, it was crystal clear and filled with unconcealable joy. "Chloe! I was scrolling through social media over here and saw the news that you became the Prescott Family’s goddaughter! Oh my god, you’ve been on such a roll lately! I have to congratulate you!"
Stella’s voice chattered on enthusiastically. The moment she learned Chloe had been taken in as a goddaughter by the Prescotts, her first reaction was pure, heartfelt happiness.
"Mhm, it was just decided not long ago." Chloe walked to the window and sat down. Her tone was calm and gentle, neither boastful nor deliberately modest. She simply gave a brief reply and listened quietly to Stella on the other end of the line.
"That’s so worth celebrating! A family like the Prescotts, they’re genuinely good to you. Now you’ll have real support and won’t have to walk on eggshells around the Yorks anymore. I’m so incredibly happy for you!"
Stella kept exclaiming on the other end of the call, her voice full of relief. She knew all too well what kind of life Chloe had lived with the Yorks. Now that Chloe had the Prescotts as her backing, she was truly happy for her friend from the bottom of her heart.
After the congratulations, Stella’s tone suddenly shifted. Remembering something, her voice became mischievous and tinged with a ’so close yet so far’ frustration. She lowered her voice and teased, half-jokingly scolding, "Oh, right, Chloe, if you’re the Prescotts’ goddaughter, doesn’t that make you Ethan Prescott’s godsister? Let me tell you, that guy Ethan is completely blind! A total idiot!"
Chloe didn’t reply, just listened quietly, her expression placid.
She never had any romantic feelings for Ethan Prescott to begin with, so she couldn’t care less about this supposed change in their relationship.
’Besides, just like Stella said, Ethan Prescott is an idiot. How could someone as smart as me marry an idiot?’
Stella, completely oblivious to Chloe’s indifference, continued chattering away, getting more and more worked up. "You have no idea, when I heard the news over here, I almost burst out laughing. Ethan Prescott has become the laughingstock of our entire circle. It’s truly something else."
