Chapter 116: Chapter 115: Last Battle of the Centuries-Old Conflict Between Three Races

Clank!

In the middle of Kuoh City, an entire city block that had once been a plaza had been completely destroyed and transformed into ruins due to the chaos caused by the battle taking place there. And it would have been much worse if one of them had not been actively protecting the surrounding area.

At the center of the chaos were two figures. One of them, completely covered in red-scaled armor that made him look imposing and powerful, had just delivered a powerful blow.

But the other person standing before him, a blond man with a calm presence who held an elegant sword with both hands, one on the hilt and the other on the blade, stopped his attack with ease.

"Why are you fighting, Issei? You have betrayed your entire race and are actively supporting the enemy of humanity. I would at least like to know your objectives" Kiba asked, without a trace of exhaustion from the fight.

"Do I really need a reason?" Issei mocked confidently. "Of course it’s because Rias trusts me, and I won’t let her down"

"So, simple lust" Kiba sighed in disappointment and retreated several meters with an elegant leap.

Having attended the same institution as Issei, he knew very well about his lustfulness, but he had never expected it to be enough to make him betray his own race.

Issei, who a second ago was still pushing his fist forward with all his strength, wanting to prove that he was stronger than Kiba, watched his point of support disappear and fell to the ground in embarrassment.

"Do you understand humanity’s fate if the devils win? We will be nothing more than slaves"

"It’s not like that!" Issei shouted as soon as he got back up, advancing once again with the intention of attacking Kiba with his fist covered in dragon scales.

With his enhanced strength and speed, every blow was enough to make the ground and air around him tremble, but his clumsy movements were far too easy for a warrior like Kiba to dodge.

"Rias and the others aren’t like that. They recruit people while taking their will into account, and they even kill stray devils!"

Kiba frowned as he crouched to dodge another blow. While crouched, he quickly changed his stance, holding the sword with both hands as if it were a baseball bat and swinging it toward Issei.

Although the sword’s edge could cut through anything, it could not cut Issei’s scaled armor, so he turned the cutting attack into a forceful attack that merely sent him flying several dozen meters, bouncing across the ground several times before coming to a stop.

Of course, Kiba already knew this and had adapted to it. That was the reason he usually wielded a one-handed sword with both hands, because rather than cutting, he needed strength.

"Stray devils?" Kiba repeated angrily. "Those were humans, Issei, humans who simply didn’t want to live as slaves without rights and tried to escape. But what did they find? That it was impossible. The simple act of running away or going against their ’master’ transformed them into mindless mutants.

Is that what you want, Issei? All of humanity turned into slaves without rights simply because the master you happened to get isn’t that bad?"

Issei attacked again.

"I don’t know! Right now, all I know is that I want to beat you!" Issei shouted. Beneath the armor, his expression was filled with uncertainty, but he forced himself to concentrate as he attacked.

Before Issei could attack him, Kiba had already taken up his position, and the moment Issei entered his range, he attacked with a thrust from which a beam of energy emerged.

This energy, concentrated into a single point, managed to pierce Issei’s armor, but by the time he had the chance to realize it, it had already regenerated at full speed.

Kiba sighed helplessly upon seeing the monstrous durability and regeneration of Issei’s armor before continuing to speak.

"’You don’t know’? You’re an immature child forced to participate in something that completely surpasses you, Issei. Honestly, I even feel a little sorry for you.

Even so, if you don’t know, if the situation is beyond you... then you should simply stay out of it instead of harming all humans because of your own selfishness and immaturity" Kiba said.

’Damn it, if only I knew magic’ Issei complained, ignoring what he considered nothing more than an annoying lecture from Kiba and not taking it seriously. He had already realized that he had no way of defeating Kiba physically unless he became even stronger, but his body could not withstand any more power.

The only reason he had not lost was because of the defense he had developed after losing dozens of times against Kiba before due to the difference between them.

’How was it again?’ Issei struggled to remember how to create a fireball like Rias had taught him once before and extended his arm.

The reason he had not continued learning magic after that was because, according to Rias, he did not have the talent for it. And the devil race was not in a situation at the time where they could afford to forgo the Boosted Gear’s strength advantage in order to slowly teach him magic.

Just as he became internally disappointed, believing he would not even succeed at the most basic magic, his shifting shadow in front of him caught his attention as the entire area became illuminated.

Issei stared in astonishment as an enormous sphere of fire, one kilometer in diameter, appeared behind him and slowly moved toward Kiba. The temperature was so intense that he could even feel it inside his armor, which was capable of easily withstanding attacks from Excalibur.

"Oh no, stop" Issei said nervously, having lost control.

Kiba stared at the fireball in astonishment, then at the nervous Issei, and did not need much thought to understand what was happening.

He immediately made a decision. With all the strength he could muster, he drove Excalibur into the ground and closed his eyes.

’Concentrate... Remember what Yasaka explained to you last time. Excalibur is connected to the defense of the earth itself, and it is not an exaggeration to say that it is a physical crystallization of the earth’s will to defend itself. Although it is not this earth, we can use part of that connection and transfer it to this earth.

Focus... Just like when you learned to control Yoki, except now it is the life force of an entire earth...’

While Kiba continued with his eyes closed and Issei remained in a panic, desperately trying to stop his attack, the sword in the ground began to glow.

A golden, divine energy enveloped it, but it quickly turned white upon entering the earth and expanded in all directions at tremendous speed.

Just as the enormous sphere of fire touched the ground, hundreds of magic circles connected to larger magic circles, which in turn created even larger circles in an extensive hierarchical order, appeared behind Kiba, absorbing the demonic magic at tremendous speed and reducing the attack to nothing.

In a single second, the sphere had disappeared as if it were nothing, and before the two of them there was only empty space without a trace of any magical attack.

Once it was over, the magic circles disappeared, the white energy receded, returning to the sword in the form of golden energy, and Kiba opened his eyes as he pulled the sword from the ground.

However, instead of attacking, Kiba knelt down, using the sword as support just to barely remain standing.

"Ahhhhh... ahhhhh..." Kiba breathed with difficulty, extremely exhausted, before looking at Issei with a critical gaze.

"This is what immaturity does with a power it cannot control. Do you know how many people would have died if that had exploded, Issei? Thousands is an optimistic estimate.

Someone with your personality does not deserve such power. As someone I once met said: You are a mistake"

"N-no, I... It wasn’t my fault, I..." Issei panicked again. "Y-you’re weak now, yes, that’s it, that was my plan. Now I’ll defeat you"

Without knowing what else to do, Issei came up with a weak excuse and attacked Kiba, who no longer had the strength to defend himself or even follow his movements.

But it was not necessary. In the middle of his jump, Issei’s armor suddenly disappeared and returned to its gauntlet form, lowering the teenager’s strength by several levels, but the momentum was already there, and Issei continued flying uncontrollably until he crashed into some nearby ruins, which brought him to a stop.

"What did you do?!" he asked in astonishment as he got back to his feet, immediately noticing that he could no longer use his Balance Breaker.

"I didn’t do anything" Kiba said with a slight sigh of relief. He had genuinely thought he was going to die there.

"D-Draig, you know wh..."

’Something is happening to the Sacred Gear system’ D-Draig said perplexedly, not even letting his owner finish. ’My strength has been limited to normal levels. I cannot surpass my limits like before.

T-this is impossible. The only person who can repair the Sacred Gear system is dead’

"W-what? Who are you talking about?" Issei asked in confusion.

’This isn’t the time, Issei. Finish this battle quickly and let’s go back. Maybe Ajuka knows something’ D-Draig said. They say confidence comes from ignorance, and this was true. D-Draig was several times more nervous and frightened than Issei in the face of such a situation.

"N-no, I have to..." Issei refused and turned his gaze toward Kiba, who was still there, taking advantage of Issei’s lapse in attention to recover.

However, just before either of them could move, two unknown people suddenly appeared in front of Kiba.

"Oh no, let’s get out of here, quickly!" D-Draig did not even bother speaking to Issei through his mind and shouted directly.

But it was already too late. Before the astonished eyes of Kiba, who recognized the newcomers, and Issei, who still did not understand what was happening, Yuuji snapped his fingers, and both of them disappeared.

...

In the Sixth Heaven, several people appeared around a white, round marble table, most of them confused. Each of them appeared sitting in a chair suited to their size.

There were a total of 20 people, consisting of: the three great Seraphim of Heaven, Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael; the Four Maous of the Underworld, Sirzechs, Ajuka, Falbium, and Grayfia; the leaders of Grigori, the Fallen Angels, Azazel, Shemhazai, and Kokabiel; the leaders of the anti-demonic alliance of the human world, Yasaka, leader of the Yokai, and Cao Cao, leader of the humans; Rias and Sona, rulers of Kuoh, the place where the central battle between both races was currently taking place; Issei and Kiba, the current central representatives of both races in the battle; and finally Serafall and Koneko, simply people close to each side, just to bring the number up to twenty and make it sound better. And, obviously, Yuuji and Lala.

"Welcome, all the principal representatives of this great dispute between the Human-Yokai Alliance and the Devils, as well as all the parties interfering behind the scenes for their own personal benefits.

" brought you all here today with a single objective. It is time to put an end to this centuries-old dispute"
