Chapter 1337: Chapter 64: [Calamity] (7)
As they continued their journey, the male vampire who called himself “Norman” and the girl Mina led the way ahead, while Luo Qiu and his two companions followed leisurely behind.
So far, apart from the initial conversation, neither side had communicated further; they simply walked in silence.
On both sides of the path, and even in the dirt they trod on, there were scattered bones… of almost every shape imaginable, encompassing a vast range of creatures.
This seemed to indicate that once trapped in this place, escaping alive would be incredibly difficult… A gust of cold wind blew through, and as it passed through the massive crevice, it emitted a wailing sound, like the low growl of some creature.
Maria couldn’t help but shiver, wrapping her robe tighter around herself. She quietly moved closer to Luo Qiu and the maid, whispering, “Do you two feel something strange about this ‘Norman’?”
Luo Qiu didn’t ask why but rather inquired, “Miss Maria, did you notice something?”
Miss Witch’s expression was solemn as she replied, “This place always gives me a creepy feeling… You all saw how that vampire died just now, right? And the terrified expression she wore. I suspect this place, at least among the Torrido Clan of the Thirteen Clans, is considered taboo or something similar?”
Luo Qiu nodded slightly, acknowledging Miss Witch’s insight.
Maria frowned at this moment, “But have you thought about it? This place is so dangerous that normally no one would come near it… So why does this ‘Norman’ seem unafraid? And isn’t it strange how he knows the way out?”
“Since he knows the way out, it means he’s been here before…” Luo Qiu smiled slightly and said, “This place is beneath the castle, so it isn’t particularly odd to have been here before.”
“That’s true, but I still feel something is off, though I can’t put my finger on exactly what.” Miss Witch muttered softly.
At this moment, Norman… Bazby suddenly stopped and slowly turned around, saying calmly, “We’ll rest here for a while… Keep in mind, the nerve endings of the Lost Fangs here become most active at a certain time of the day, lasting about three hours. We need to wait for them to calm down.”
“Rest… here?” Maria gulped… For the bones here, compared to where they first landed, were at least twice as many—so densely packed, every inch ground was covered.
Bazby nodded, then pointed ahead… There seemed to be a deep pit ahead, “There’s a place to rest down there… Moreover, although there are more bones here, it’s relatively safer. The smell of the corpses and decaying bones is enough to cover our scent.”
Saying this, Bazby wrapped an arm around the girl Mina and leaped down… His legs slid along the edge of the pit at an angle so skillfully that it wasn’t long before he had brought the girl to the bottom.
“Shall we give it a try as well?” Luo Qiu smiled at the maid as he contemplated sliding down in the same manner… naturally planning to carry the maid in his arms like a princess.
Unexpectedly, Miss Witch suddenly interjected, “Allow me!”
Maria waved her magic wand, scattering several seeds—soon, at a speed visible to the naked eye, a large plant grew from the ground.
Maria plucked three large leaf sheets from the big plant, chuckled lightly, and sat on one before sliding down the pit’s edge.
With a lively and vibrant sound.
“In general, being a magician is a quite convenient profession,” said someone.
Luo Qiu examined a leaf, contemplating whether to use these leaves or not, then suddenly had an idea. He placed two leaves together, seated the maid in front, and began to slide down the edge.
“Does this make it a bit more fun?” Boss Luo smiled next to the maid’s ear.
The maid chuckled softly, “The Master always finds a way to make boring things interesting.”
It was all about whether one wanted to put a little thought into it… Making mundane tasks more lively naturally brings more color to life.
The sliding journey was brief… On reaching the pit’s bottom, Luo Qiu and the maid were met with Miss Witch’s tutting gaze.
These two couldn’t stay separated for a moment without wilting… Miss Witch couldn’t help but think sarcastically: After all, the Master Qi Cai Jin has been famous for decades, and considering a master of secret medicine, it’s unbelievable if they don’t have a few bottles of youth elixir… But is this not like an old cow eating tender grass?
As Miss Witch pondered wildly, Norman’s voice suddenly came.
He said, “Try to conserve here… The magic in this place is at least twenty times weaker than outside. Also, Mithril can’t be used… Those beings detect Mithril with the same sharpness as they do blood.”
“Thank you for the warning.” Boss Luo nodded with a kindly gaze.
Without further words, he took Mina and walked straight ahead… Ahead was a mountain-like pile of bones.
Logically, if creatures fell and were attacked by vampire vines, their bones should remain in place, just like what was seen along the path—but the neatly stacked bones here seemed deliberately piled by someone.
Thus, they followed Norman into the mountain of bones.
Not far ahead, Norman halted before a slope of bones and pulled out a leg-like bone—a cascade of bones fell from the slope… In mere moments, a huge and hideous behemoth’s skull emerged!
The beast’s mouth was still wide open, with teeth still intact in the jaws, sharp even now… Norman, without hesitation, led Mina directly into the gaping maw of the giant creature.
A whole new world inside.
This was the first impression of Luo Qiu and company after entering the interior!
The interior space didn’t feel confined at all… Instead, it was quite spacious—there were places to rest, sleep, and even storage!
Here, there were simple yet practical living facilities… Although they were made by crafting and binding bones, it was evident the place was inhabited… At least someone had lived here before!
At this point, Norman familiarly took an oil lamp made of bones from a white bone “cabinet” and some lighting tools.
Within, many mystical algae emitted a blue glow, and when Norman lit the lamp, the place became bright at once.
“Have a seat.” Norman pointed to a nearby bone-made chair-like object, “This place used to be the skeletal remains of a red dragon. Due to its completeness, it was directly transformed into what you see now.”
Although Miss Witch is a witch, seeing such a white bone house still made her heart skip a beat, and she couldn’t muster the mood to make such a newfangled “chair”.
She forced a laugh, “Well, I’m not very tired… standing is fine.”
“Suit yourselves.” Norman said as he sat down at a relatively distant spot… while the girl Mina moved a white bone stool next to him and sat down.
“It’s really strange, in a place like this, there is actually such a comfortable house.” The maid examined the structure, “It looks like the person who built it probably put a lot of thought into it… perhaps even planning to live here permanently?”
“How do you know?” Maria couldn’t help but ask curiously.
The maid replied calmly, “If it were just a resting place, one probably wouldn’t tinker with these little things.”
Her eyes fell on a small cabinet in the corner—it was filled with small items… bone-carved artifacts, and even a vase.
The lower section, however, had a set of dishware, also made of bone.
Norman also looked at this cabinet and slowly said, “Someone indeed lived here in the past, and they stayed for quite some time.”
“What kind of person would live in such a ghastly place…” Miss Witch couldn’t help but comment.
Norman answered calmly, “Although this place is dangerous, once you understand the patterns of those nerve end activities, it can actually be quite safe. Plus, no one will come here to disturb you. It’s not really surprising if the person who lived here didn’t like the world outside.”
“Is it because they didn’t like the outside world, or because they couldn’t appear in the outside world…” Miss Witch shook her head, obviously realizing something. She looked at Norman with a peculiar expression, “You?”
Norman, expressionless, said, “There was once a large-scale escape incident at the Farm. Some humans tried to escape and ended up trapped here. In fact, there are many houses like this one here; this is just one of them.”
Boss Luo, who was listening, had picked up a bone carving from the cabinet, and asked curiously, “What happened to those humans later?”
Norman replied, “Some died at the hands of the Lost Fangs, some couldn’t endure the solitude and eventually chose suicide. Others managed to live here but ultimately couldn’t survive long because of the food situation. Finally, among those who escaped here, someone felt that returning to the Farm would be better than living here and secretly went back to the Farm, revealing the secret of this place. Needless to say, you can probably figure out the rest.”
Miss Witch said, “The clansmen of the bloodsuckers must have brought people here and took all the humans back… No wonder you’re so familiar with this place.”
Norman just stared at the witch for a few seconds, making her a bit unnerved, afraid she might have exposed something.
He suddenly said, “From now on, stay quiet, in about half an hour, those things will start to awaken, they are as sensitive to sound.”
With that, Norman closed his eyes, looking like he was resting… while the girl Mina, seemingly unafraid, leaned against him and drifted into sleep.
“Half an hour left… can we look around?” Boss Luo asked in a low voice.
Norman opened his eyes, frowned, but didn’t speak.
Luo Qiu smiled slightly and said, “Since we’re rarely in this place, it would be a shame not to look around… Of course, we’ll return in time.”
Norman just gave him a deep look, then closed his eyes again, neither refusing nor agreeing.
“Thanks.”
Luo Qiu nodded and then asked Maria, “Do you want to come with us or stay here?”
“I… I’ll come with you.” Miss Witch thought for a moment and ultimately didn’t want to stay here alone, facing the strange Norman.
…
…
Fog Capital.
The terrifying disaster that happened last night left no trace behind—at least no destructive trace.
The rain had erased the memories of ordinary people, but there was still plenty of evidence preserved due to technological products, becoming the most discussed bizarre event this morning—some even suggested they might have been brainwashed by aliens.
In this strange yet serene atmosphere, Miss Witch Gillian arrived in front of an antique shop—the sign hanging above read “Closed.”
She could sense traces of Farael’s presence here—though eventually, Farael’s presence disappeared from this point.
The true function of this antique shop was a portal to the Non-Human Domain.
However, the Magician’s Association had temporarily shut down all official portals within Britain… so here it just continued doing regular antique business.
Miss Witch took a deep breath, ignored the “Closed” sign, unlocked the door, and entered the antique shop.
Only one clerk was present… and they were unconscious on the floor—besides, a shelf was knocked over, with many antiques scattered on the ground.
Miss Witch shook her head, having a clear idea of what Farael likely did when he came here.
“That old geezer, suddenly running off to the Non-Human Domain, what’s he up to…”
Nevertheless, she quickly found the portal located here… and the portal was still active, with several unconscious individuals around it.
Miss Witch shook her head, lifted her skirt slightly, and stepped into the portal without hesitation… after all, without having to pay with Mithril, it’s a free ride!
