Chapter 737: Chapter 278: Chaotic Situation (Part 5)

Wearing a nun’s habit, tall and slender, the Red Gemstone Scepter with her eyes covered by a blindfold walked out from one side of the Palace.

—"So someone really dares to covet the Boundary Gate of the Rose Palace... truly, quite some nerve."

From the other side, the Pink Gemstone Scepter stepped out, wearing a white princess dress, her figure thin, her expression full of arrogance.

Pigeon Blood Red, Purple Diamond—these two Gemstone Scepters who should have been accompanying the Queen in the stands to watch the ceremony had both appeared here in this hidden Palace instead.

"So it’s two Gemstone Scepters."

Feng paused for a moment, then showed a slightly subtle smile. "May I ask why the two of you have appeared here?" 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂

Pigeon Blood Red answered with a mysterious smile.

"When someone wants to go to the Rose Palace, do they need any other reason?"

Purple Diamond looked at him with a trace of contempt. "You petty schemer dabbling in plots and tricks—did you really think your little calculations could escape Her Majesty’s eyes?"

"The Queen, huh... I see." Feng muttered to himself. "I suppose I should say, as expected of that kind of being—she really does have abilities I can’t comprehend."

"Who gave you permission to prattle about Her Majesty like that? Such rudeness."

Purple Diamond said in disgust, "Shut that mouth of yours and surrender at once!"

In truth, she didn’t look down on him nearly as much as her words suggested.

Because the original plan was for only Pigeon Blood Red to come here; it was the Queen who personally spoke up and ordered her to come along with Pigeon Blood Red.

So even if she utterly despised his actions, Purple Diamond did not treat him as some completely powerless weakling. In reality, she had already quietly prepared herself to strike at any moment.

"What a pity—no, perhaps I should say it’s only a pity for me. Like this, I’m the one who ends up losing out."

Looking at the two Gemstone Scepters closing in on him step by step, Feng suddenly said that.

"What are you muttering over there, saying all sorts of inexplicable things?" A Magic Wand appeared in Purple Diamond’s hand.

"Ah, nothing much."

Feng smiled with a trace of resignation. "I just realized that from here on, I might not be the protagonist—only a spectator."

...

...

In the lively examination hall stands, there was a large area that had been left empty.

That was originally meant to be the resting area for the two Gemstone Scepters and the Queen, but now it looked utterly deserted, with only a small figure sitting in the center, a veil over her head, and a sparse ring of guards around her.

A few minutes earlier, the Queen—who had been silent up until then—suddenly seemed to remember something and instructed Purple Diamond and Pigeon Blood Red, "Go to the Palace."

Although the two Gemstone Scepters didn’t yet understand what the Queen meant, they still obeyed the order and left the examination hall.

And because of that, only the Queen remained here.

Even so, no one dared approach this area lightly. Arbitrarily overstepping boundaries might not be an explicit crime in the Kingdom, but in these increasingly tense postwar days, it was very easily seen as a sign of disrespect toward royal authority.

Around the Queen, even the guards didn’t dare get too close. They carefully maintained the most appropriate distance—one that wouldn’t seem disrespectful—clearing out an absolute vacuum around her.

The sun was bright that day, but there was a sunshade above the Queen’s head. Her small figure sat alone in the shadow, her gaze unreadable as she watched the distant projection, observing the examinees struggling.

In the stands as well, bursts of heated discussion and cheering rose from time to time, yet those sounds seemed so far away from here, as if coming from another dimension.

The Queen picked up the teacup at her side, took a light sip of the hot cocoa within, then gently set the cup down again.

Tap.

At the moment the cup touched the table, for some reason, there was suddenly someone standing in front of the desk.

It was a girl in a black sailor uniform, her hair tied into a ponytail, missing one arm and using a Black Cat–like black Prosthetic Limb in its place.

She stood before the desk, her eyes lowered slightly, as if sizing up the figure before her, studying her seriously.

"It seems we have a guest."

The Queen spoke thus.

"I’m not a guest."

The girl shook her head.

The guards nearby all seemed to have lost their sight and hearing, completely ignoring the black-clad girl who had appeared out of nowhere. They continued to patrol the area, yet every one of them coincidentally failed to register her existence.

"You’ve come to see me from far away, across a great distance. Naturally, that makes you a guest."

The Queen said, tilting her head slightly. From behind that white veil, a gaze of unclear meaning seemed to fall upon the Black Cat:

"I just don’t know whether the one who’s come is a true guest... or merely a troublesome intruder."

The black girl—no, the Black Cat—paused for a moment.

She kept her head bowed, staring at the Queen, her gaze as if trying to pierce through that veil and then drive straight through the Queen’s skull.

"I came here to kill you."

Then she spoke:

"To kill you, the monster who caused all these tragedies."
