Transformed into a Penguin: My Evolution Penguin System
Chapter 351: The Net Caught a Door Before It Caught Dinner
Food showed1:31 when Hessa covered the witness slate with the ration board.
“Research can be hungry after we are not,” she said.
The Seasonal Passage catch rail opened Catch9 with every prior role closed. Nera Holt and Olan Sorn had worked Catch8, but the system could not carry either answer into a new net interval.

Nera inspected the living-release gate before she answered. Catch8 had used a folding shore pocket. Catch9 used a crescent net around an ownerless stone channel with a hinged lower grate. Any living bycatch had to leave before the edible draw could be weighed.
“I will hold the human release cord,” she said. “Not the north float, south float, or catch count.”
Olan accepted the weighted shore corner after checking that his old knot carried no standing duty. Black-Crown selected two north swimmers under a fresh count. Split-Beak selected two south swimmers under his own.

The exits remained separate. Either rookery pair could abandon its crescent without closing the human release gate or ordering the other pair to keep swimming. Nera and Olan could drop the shore corner without claiming either rookery’s approach.

[Living release before edible accounting1]
The two swimmer pairs entered from opposite sides. Nera fed the release cord through the dry guide. Olan lowered the weighted corner until the crescent held against the channel flow.
The net caught the gate.
Its lower float line slipped beneath the hinged grate and pulled the hinge sideways. Water pressure drove the grate against its stone lip. Three small fish entered the release pocket, found the opening blocked, and began striking the mesh while the edible wing remained empty.

Nera stopped her cord. Olan set the shore weight down instead of pulling harder. Both swimmer pairs slackened under separate rookery calls.
The gate remained pinned.
The dry guide reached the hinge from above, but a stone hood left only0.31m of vertical clearance. Nera could fit an arm into the space. She could not see the fish, brace her shoulder, or lift the grate without dragging the net line across them.
Jiang measured the gap with his beak.
“No entry yet,” Aylin said.
“I have not proposed anything.”
“Your beak has a proposal voice.”
She was right, which remained a poor reason to enjoy the accusation.
Jiang checked the route instead of entering it. The stone hood was0.44m wide. The wet sill offered0.38m of breast clearance after oilcoat compression. The hinge cord lay four centimeters beyond the reach of a human hand that kept its shoulder outside.
His current penguin body could pass. Human Form could not.

Nera kept hold of her stopped release cord. “Can you lift the hinge loop if we keep every catch line slack?”
That was a request for one physical act, not a roster position.
Jiang looked to both rookery counters. Black-Crown’s pair accepted slack retention. Split-Beak’s pair accepted separately. Olan accepted keeping the shore weight grounded. Nera retained the right to stop the attempt.
“I can try once,” Jiang said. “If my tail leaves the dry mark, pull me backward. Do not pull the gate.”

Aylin fitted a loose recovery loop behind Jiang’s feet without touching feathers. He stepped into it himself. Current touch remained0, and the loop granted no authority over his direction before the stop condition.
Jiang lowered his breast to the wet sill.
His beak entered first. The hood scraped neither crown nor oilcoat. He pushed with both emperor feet, claws spread against the dry stone behind him, and slid until his flippers met the narrow walls.
The trapped fish flashed below the grate. His body wanted to follow the movement. Quiet Brood cut the first turn to0.2s. Jiang chose the hinge cord instead.
He caught the wet loop near its knot with the hooked end of his beak.
The grate did not lift.
Water pressure held it against the lip, and Jiang could not pull backward without losing the cord. He planted his left foot against the sill, shifted his right foot higher, and lowered his tail between them as a third brace.
Emperor penguins balanced eggs with feet, brood skin, and controlled shuffling. Jiang applied the less dignified version to a jammed fish door.

He raised his beak while extending both feet.
The hinge moved three centimeters. Water took the opening and pushed from the correct side. The grate rose to0.24m, two centimeters above the safe-release mark.
Nera did not order the fish out. She held the human cord still while the three living bodies found the opening under their own movement.
One fish turned at the lip. Jiang kept the grate raised and his eyes on the hinge loop rather than following it. The fish crossed without touching his beak or the stone.
All three fish cleared the opening.

Nera closed the release cord enough to carry the grate’s weight. Jiang let go. Olan pulled the recovery loop only after Jiang’s tail crossed the dry mark, helping him clear the hood without touching the catch line.
Aylin inspected his oilcoat from outside arm’s reach. “Scrape?”
“None. Pride condition uncertain.”
“The pride damage was preexisting.”
Jiang stood and checked the wound line. It remained1.1cm with bleeding0. Mobility stayed12%. No feather came loose, and Cold remained16/47.

The workers reset the crescent under their original separate roles. Nera tested the gate twice with no fish inside. Olan lifted the weighted corner only after both rookery pairs restored their lines independently.
Catch9 moved into the channel.

Food stood1:24. Fuel remained0. Jiang remained Pressure60, Abyss Pressure uses2, Memory Dive uses3, Soul Anchorage candidate0/3, and EP0.
Behind the covered research slate, the claimant left `LEFT FOOT` waiting for a test it had already failed to predict.
The folded card in Aylin’s hand named Jiang’s tail.
