Chapter 641: Chapter 333: Doctor Yun is Also Pregnant?

When Huai Zi and Liu Sanshun set off again with Zhang Yang and the others, Zhao San went along too. They were headed to Huzhou, and the three youngsters might end up staying there for several months. Even though he felt he wasn’t a very capable father, he had to go see for himself before he could rest easy.

Huai Zi was initially worried about leaving Juhua, but he breathed a sigh of relief when Qin Feng and his junior sister returned the day before he left.

Qin Feng was delighted to hear that three youths from Qingnan Village were going to take the Prefecture and Academy Examinations. He gave them some common medicines, including some to sharpen the mind and boost energy, some insect repellent, and even a few antidote pills, just in case.

Little Shitou, grinning cheekily, tried to ask for more medicine.

Amused, Qin Feng said, "Medicine isn’t something to be taken lightly. What would you do with so much? Some of these wouldn’t even be useful for you." Only then did Little Shitou give up.

After Huai Zi left, Juhua headed back to her family home to look for Yun Ying. She had looked unwell when she returned yesterday, and Juhua wondered if she was feeling any better today.

Yun Ying looked far worse than just unwell; she seemed genuinely ill—or pregnant. She threw up everything she ate. The doctor herself had ironically ended up being cared for by Liu Yunlan.

Liu Yunlan didn’t know what was wrong with her. Seeing that Yun Ying couldn’t keep anything down, she made a ham and Little Cabbage soup and brought it to her. It was Juhua’s favorite soup, one that never made her sick, so she thought Yun Ying should try it too.

Yun Ying’s face was pale. She was leaning against the bed talking to Juhua when she saw Liu Yunlan bring in the soup. She got up guiltily and said, "Sister Yunlan, I’m sorry to have caused you so much trouble."

Liu Yunlan smiled. "It’s nothing. This soup isn’t greasy at all; it’s very light and refreshing. Juhua loves it too. Why don’t you give it a try?"

Seeing how clear the broth was, Yun Ying took the chopsticks and poked around in the soup, intending to fish out some Little Cabbage to eat. But when she lifted a slice of pink ham, her stomach lurched. She hastily shoved the bowl and chopsticks into Juhua’s hands, scrambled out of bed, and rushed outside to be sick.

Liu Yunlan watched, completely aghast.

Juhua, however, knew exactly what was going on. She said to Liu Yunlan, "Sister Yunlan, she can’t stand the sight of meat these days. It’s best if you just make vegetables for her. Don’t worry about her today. She can eat at my place and keep me company."

Liu Yunlan nodded and left with the bowl of soup, a suspicious look on her face. As she walked, she thought to herself, ’Could Doctor Yun be pregnant, too? If so, why isn’t she married yet?’

Juhua came out of the room and said to Yun Ying, who had only dry-heaved a few times, "Come on. You’re not sick, so it’s not right for you to be lazing about in your room like this. Let’s go check on my cherry trees. They should be ripe in a day or two. If we look carefully, we might find a few ripe ones to get that taste out of your mouth."

Yun Ying’s spirits lifted at the suggestion. Just the thought of a cherry’s bright, delicate appearance made her feel a wave of relief. If she could just eat a few, she was sure both her mouth and stomach would feel much better.

She followed Juhua to the Zhang family’s home without bothering to change. She was still in her rough, simple, blue men’s clothes, her hair tied in a bun and wrapped in a cloth. For one, she really wasn’t in the mood to care about her appearance. For another, in a place like this, it was better to dress simply. Wearing bright, fancy clothes was just asking for trouble.

When they entered the courtyard, He greeted them before heading to the river with a basket of laundry. Juhua found a small basket and handed it to Yun Ying, then picked up a larger one for herself and led her toward the backyard.

Yun Ying asked curiously, "Didn’t you say the cherries aren’t ripe yet? What’s the big basket for?"

Juhua replied, "I’m going to pick some vegetables from the garden for lunch. Your basket is the one for the cherries."

In the backyard, the vegetable garden was to the east and the orchard to the west. At this time of year, the fruit trees were lush with foliage, and even though the fruit was still unripe, it was a pleasant sight. Yun Ying walked among the trees, seemingly lost in thought. Passing under a plum tree, she looked up at the green plums overhead. Unable to resist, she picked one, wiped it casually on her clothes, and bit into it with a loud CRUNCH—

Juhua stared, dumbfounded. She had to turn away, unable to bear watching.

But a series of crunching sounds followed, and to her disbelief, Yun Ying finished the entire green plum.

Juhua’s brow furrowed, a sympathetic sourness filling her own mouth. She asked, "Those plums are nowhere near ripe. They must not only be sour but astringent too. How could you possibly swallow that?"

"I didn’t actually eat it," Yun Ying said nonchalantly. "I just chewed it for the sour juice to make my mouth feel better." At least the intense sourness helped her forget her troubles for a moment.

Juhua couldn’t help but start worrying about her cherries—she was afraid Yun Ying would pick and eat the unripe ones as well.

So, when they arrived at the cherry tree, she warned, "These cherries are almost ripe, so please don’t just pick them indiscriminately. If we search carefully, we’re sure to find some ripe ones. It would be a shame to pick them before they’re ready."
