Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year
Chapter 507: Despair
Rose Shaw’s gaze gradually shifted elsewhere, her eyes rimmed with red.
’It hurt.’
She couldn’t pinpoint the source of the agony. It was a pain that had seeped into every inch of her body, as if a million ants were gnawing at her flesh and bone.
She wanted to leave, but she had barely taken a step when a voice called out from behind her.
"Rose Shaw, you stop right there!" Eileen Scott walked over and grabbed Rose’s arm. "You’re just going to leave like that? Without even an apology? My sister isn’t out yet. You’re not going anywhere!"
"Let go." Rose’s voice was practically ground out between her teeth.
"And what if I don’t? Christopher, just look at her! She was in such a terrible situation, and you were the one who saved her! Otherwise, she would’ve been toyed with until she died! And now? It’s one thing for her to be ungrateful, but she almost harmed my sister and the baby!"
"Shut up!" Christopher Sterling roared. The baby in his arms, startled by the shout, suddenly burst into tears.
Mrs. Sheffield, who was standing nearby, rushed forward. "Christopher, don’t be so angry. You’ll scare the baby. Here, give him to me." She quickly took the baby from him.
Christopher Sterling strode over to Eileen Scott. "Who told you all this?"
His sharp gaze was like a knife at Eileen’s throat, and she couldn’t help but flinch.
"I... I just heard it from someone." Eileen didn’t dare mention that Lana had hired someone to investigate.
"Who did you hear it from?" Christopher had no intention of letting the matter drop.
"What difference does it make who said it? What she said is the truth, anyway," Rose suddenly interjected.
"I’m sorry, President Sterling." Rose finally apologized, but her words weren’t for Eileen or Lana. They were for Christopher.
With that, she turned and walked away.
Seeing the dark expression on Christopher’s face, Eileen didn’t dare make a sound. She scurried behind Mrs. Sheffield, afraid his anger would turn on her next.
Fifteen minutes later, the doors to the operating room opened again, and a nurse wheeled Lana Sheffield out on a gurney.
"Christopher," Lana called out weakly, holding her hand out to him.
"How are you feeling?"
"I’m fine. The baby? Have you seen the baby? It’s a boy. He’s our son."
"I’ve seen him," Christopher replied quietly.
"Why don’t you look happy? Is it because of Rose? Christopher, it really wasn’t her fault. It was my own carelessness."
"What do you mean, your own carelessness?" Mrs. Sheffield immediately cut in. "What’s your position, and what’s hers? You want to give Eileen a role, and you need *her* permission? You even have to go and beg her?"
"Exactly!" Jude Sheffield added. "Why should my sister have to stoop so low for her?"
"Shouldn’t we get the patient back to her room first?" a young nurse gently reminded them.
"Yes, yes, let’s get her back to the room first. We can talk about this later," Mrs. Sheffield said quickly.
"Christopher." Lana reached out and gripped his hand tightly, as if afraid he would walk away.
Christopher followed the nurse and helped get Lana settled in her room.
"Christopher, what should we name our son? I’ve thought of so many names, but none of them felt quite right. We always said that if it was a boy, you would choose the name, and if it was a girl, I would."
"Elijah Sterling."
"Elijah Sterling? Elijah? It’s a beautiful name."
"You just gave birth. You need to get some rest."
"Aren’t you going to stay with me? Is there something you have to take care of?" Though Lana asked the question, her grip on Christopher’s hand tightened.
