Chapter 750: Master Feng Advises Reconciliation

Rhonda attacked the food like she hadn’t eaten in days, grabbing only the meat and fish for herself. Mrs. Green shot her several disapproving looks, but it was useless. Rhonda pretended not to notice, just kept eating and piling food onto her son’s and husband’s plates. There wasn’t much to the pound of fish and meat to begin with, and after she’d had her way with it, almost nothing was left.

Mrs. Green was about to lose her temper, but Rosalind stopped her. She wasn’t craving the meat and fish herself. ’It’s our first time meeting, I don’t want to start a fight with my sister-in-law.’ In the end, it was all because resources were so scarce. She couldn’t really blame Rhonda.

Adrian Hawthorne just ate some of the vegetable dishes. He made sure to eat the fish and meat his grandmother served him, knowing she would be upset if he refused. Besides, his grandmother was an excellent cook. Her braised pork belly was fantastic—the best he had ever tasted. The only issue was the small portion.

’I should take Grandma back to Millstone Peak for a few days. Then she could make a proper meal of braised pork belly. This whole plate is barely a mouthful for me.’

「The next day.」

Adrian Hawthorne went to the hospital to visit Mad Feng’s friend. Mad Feng and Will were there, talking with the patient. A little surprised, Mad Feng smiled and said, "What brings you here?"

"I just came to check in. I’m heading back to Millstone Peak tomorrow."

Adrian Hawthorne placed the fruit he brought on a cabinet. One look at the patient told him the man was at death’s door. He wondered what his relationship with Mad Feng was.

"Old Lowe, I’m going to take this young man out for a walk. You just rest easy. As for your wife and niece, leave them to me," Mad Feng promised.

The patient smiled in relief and wearily closed his eyes. He could finally rest in peace. Old Yeats was his sworn brother; a man who always kept his word. His mind was at ease.

After leading Adrian Hawthorne to the garden, Mad Feng got straight to the point. "There’s a favor I need to ask of you."

"Please, just ask."

"I need you to buy a house for me in Vessaria. Somewhere quiet would be best. It doesn’t have to be too big, but I’d prefer a place with a yard for some flowers and plants. Money is no object," Mad Feng explained.

"Done. I’ll get on it as soon as I’m back tomorrow. How should I contact you?"

"Call this number."

Mad Feng took out a small notepad, jotted down a number, and handed the slip of paper to Adrian Hawthorne.

Adrian Hawthorne glanced at the number before putting it away. ’I’ll call Winston Lowell later and have him start scouting for properties.’

"So, your mother isn’t going to see your father?" Mad Feng asked, unable to resist a bit of gossip.

Adrian Hawthorne shook his head. "She doesn’t want to, so they won’t meet. However, my father told Goldie he wants to meet. I told Goldie not to agree to it just yet."

Mad Feng laughed and, surprisingly, advised against it. "There’s no point in stringing him along. It’s better to just meet and get everything out in the open. Honestly, your father isn’t that serious about Bernice. He still cares about you and your mother. Besides, do you have any idea how large the Hawthorne family fortune is? That’s not a small amount of money. You can’t just let it go to an outsider."

Adrian Hawthorne nodded. "I know what I’m doing. I certainly won’t let it fall into an outsider’s hands."

As for Rosalind Green, he would support her no matter what she decided to do.

After bidding farewell to Mad Feng, Adrian Hawthorne went to a department store. He bought some malted milk powder and candy, making sure to get some for his cousin, Dante, as well. He had to return to Millstone Peak early tomorrow morning.

When Rhonda saw the malted milk powder and sweets Adrian Hawthorne brought back, her expression softened considerably. At dinner, Mrs. Green was loath to see them leave and tried to persuade Rosalind to stay a few more days.

"I can’t. There’s work to be done at home. Mom, why don’t you come stay with me for a few days instead?" Rosalind didn’t want to leave her mother either. She had been close to her mother since she was a little girl and had always felt distant from her father.

Adrian Hawthorne also chimed in, urging her to come. Mrs. Green was very tempted. She really wanted to see the place where her daughter lived, but what would happen at home?

"Auntie is so capable, she’ll definitely take great care of the house. You don’t have to worry, Grandma."

Rhonda had been reluctant at first—if her mother-in-law left, who would do the cooking? But Adrian Hawthorne’s flattery immediately put a huge smile on her face. Then, she realized that without her mother-in-law around to keep her in check, she could enjoy a few easy-going days. The thought made her even happier, and suddenly she was hoping Mrs. Green would stay away for a good long while.
