Triple X System
Chapter 440: Divine Priests
Two days had passed since the assault on the Wandering Springs, but the air within the central cavern of the Outer Abyssal Reefs remained charged with a quiet, lingering tension. Warm thermal currents rose from the seabed, illuminating the bioluminescent coral walls in soft shades of deep blue and violet.
In the secluded royal quarters, Queen Seraphina stood near the edge of the stone dais, her dark eyes reflecting the azure glow of the surrounding water. Her fractured mana channels had largely knit back together, restoring the heavy, suffocating pressure of her ancient aura.
Kyle sat near the stone table, unwrapping the final layer of linen bandages from his ribs. Beside him, Elara was adjusting her twin water-daggers, her expression tight and hesitant.
"The time for recovery has passed," Seraphina said, her deep voice echoing off the carved basalt walls. "The binding vow I made upon the ridge was not a feint to disarm Selena. In the ancient tradition of the deep realm, a Sovereign does not make false declarations to surface nobility."
Elara looked up, her shoulders tensing immediately. "Seraphina... wait. You can’t be serious about that. The ridge attack was chaotic, and you only said it to shut my mother up."
"I do not speak idle words, Elara," Seraphina replied, taking a step forward. Her dark robes pooled around her tall frame as an overwhelming pulse of royal pressure filled the chamber. "Kyle’s lineage and shadow core possess the rare capacity to stabilize the aquatic mana of our royal bloodline. To secure the future of the Wandering Springs and anchor our sanctuary, the union must be sealed."
Kyle paused, his hand halting over his shoulder. "Queen Seraphina, pushing this on her right now—"
"Silence, Kyle," Seraphina commanded, her tone leaves no room for debate. "You have bled for this domain, but you do not dictate its foundational rites."
Elara took a step back, her eyes widening as the ambient moisture in the room began to hum with Seraphina’s absolute authority. "No. I’m not doing this. I just broke free from my mother’s control—I won’t be ordered into this!"
"You are a daughter of the sea, Elara," Seraphina said softly, though her words carried the weight of an unyielding command. She raised her right hand, her fingertips glowing with a dense, shimmering aqua-rune. "And your Sovereign commands your compliance."
The moment the royal crest flared, an invisible, crushing weight settled onto Elara’s shoulders. The sea-mana within her own veins responded instantly to Seraphina’s call, overriding her physical movements. Elara’s breath hitched as her limbs moved against her personal will, stepping forward toward Kyle. Her cheeks burned with a mix of defiance and intense shame, her eyes locked onto his.
"Seraphina, stop!" Kyle growled, forcing himself to his feet as shadow-mana flared dangerously around his forearms. "I’m not touching her if she doesn’t want this."
"She desires the bond, Kyle, but her surface pride fights her blood," Seraphina stated calmly, her golden eyes unblinking as she maintained the command-rune. "Step forward and claim your place in the sovereign house."
Elara gasped as her hands reached out, involuntarily touching Kyle’s chest. The physical contact sent a sudden, electric shock of combined shadow and water mana through both of their cores. Despite her outward protest, the alignment of their mana channels was undeniable—the dark energy from Kyle’s shadow core instantly absorbed the volatile, unrefined crest inside Elara, soothing the lingering trauma from her mother’s spellwork.
Elara’s eyes flickered, her resistance faltering as the intimate warmth of the mana-blend rushed through her system. "Kyle..." she whispered, her voice trembling, caught between the overwhelming compulsion of her Queen and the sudden, surging heat inside her chest.
Kyle looked down at her, seeing the conflict in her eyes, but as their mana resonated, the shadow-tendrils wrapped around both of them, pulling them together into the binding ritual of the abyssal court.
### Part II: The Trial at the Clover Spire
Three thousand leagues away, bathed in the harsh, artificial glare of three perpetual suns, the floating citadel of the Clover Spire hovered above the surface clouds.
Grand Duchess Selena dragged herself through the vast marble hall of the Grand Assembly. Her white hair hung in thin, frayed strands over her withered face. Stripped of her pristine robes, she wore only a coarse grey prisoner’s tunic, her bare feet leaving faint smudges of dirt on the polished ivory floor.
Hundreds of low-ranking nobles and high-court mages stood along the elevated galleries, whispering ruthlessly as they watched the once-mighty ruler of House Selena shamelessly crawl toward the central dais.
"Look at her..."
"Overcharged her own Chronos Core and lost her territory..."
"And her daughter defected to an abyssal shadow user. What a complete disgrace."
Selena clutched her hands to her chest, her frail body shivering under the weight of their judgment. "I served the Spire..." she whimpered, her raspy voice barely carrying across the vast chamber. "I gave everything... my youth... my domain..."
"You gave us nothing but failure, Selena."
The voice did not come from the noble galleries. It reverberated from the three massive, floating obsidian thrones hovering thirty feet above the dais.
A blinding pillar of white radiance descended, revealing three tall figures cloaked in heavy, gold-embroided robes. They wore golden, featureless masks carved with the three-petaled emblem of the Clover Council.
The Divine Priests.
The center figure, Priest Malakor, leaned forward, his voice sounding like grinding stone. "You lost eighty percent of the southern marine reserves. You allowed the Sovereign of the Wandering Springs to survive. And worst of all, you permitted your own bloodline—a high-grade mage asset—to be claimed by a surface fugitive."
"Elara was stubborn!" Selena shrieked, pressing her forehead against the cold marble floor. "She betrayed the Council! She chose the monster!"
"A mother who cannot control her own child is unfit to govern a district," the second figure, Priestess Vanya, sneered coldly. "You speak of betrayal, yet it was your weakness that allowed her mind to be turned. You are a failure as a Grand Duchess, and an absolute embarrassment as a mother."
"Please..." Selena sobbed, her voice breaking completely. "Give me a detachment of light-knights! Let me go back to the trench! I will bring her back in chains—"
"Your title is revoked," the third figure, Priest Calix, interrupted smoothly.
With a flick of Calix’s golden staff, a sharp, high-pitched ringing echoed through the hall.
Selena screamed as her personal noble crest—a glowing blue hourglass etched into her collarbone—was violently ripped out of her skin in a shower of golden sparks. Her remaining mana pool collapsed instantly, reducing her to nothing more than a frail, powerless old human woman.
"You will spend the remainder of your brief, withered life in the lower vaults," Malakor declared coldly as two heavily armored light-knights stepped forward and grabbed Selena by her thin arms. "Take her away."
"No! No! Elara! ELARA!" Selena shrieked, her desperate cries fading down the dark hallway as the guards dragged her into the depths of the spire’s dungeon.
### Part III: The Shadow’s Blueprint
With Selena removed, the atmosphere inside the Grand Assembly hall turned instantly pragmatic. The whispers in the gallery died down to absolute silence.
Priest Malakor raised his right hand. "Bring up the tactical scrying array."
A massive, golden magic circle expanded above the central floor. The light gathered, projecting a shimmering, three-dimensional holographic image into the center of the hall.
It was a detailed, real-time render of Kyle.
The image depicted Kyle standing on the landing ridge of the Wandering Springs, his shadow blade drawn, his dark eyes analyzing the battlefield layout with cold, terrifying precision. Beside his render, floating text boxes displayed hundreds of data points calculating his mana output, reaction speeds, and strategic maneuvers during the battle against the Archmages.
"Kyle Connor," Priestess Vanya said, her masked face turning toward the projection. "Classified as an irregular shadow-caster. In less than two weeks, he has destabilized two major surface outposts, forged an alliance with a Sovereign mer-queen, and successfully hijacked a Council transport ship."
"His tactical choices are not erratic," Priest Calix added, zooming in on the holographic render of Kyle’s shadow threads linking the Rootcrystal Deer to the Chronos Core. "He turns environmental hazards into offensive weapons. He does not fight like a standard mage; he fights like a professional strategist who understands resource management."
Grand Archmage Vane stepped forward from the shadows of the lower dais, resting his hand on his sword hilt. "He is currently sheltering in the Outer Abyssal Reefs. The natural thermal vents make direct scrying difficult, but they cannot hide forever."
Priest Malakor looked down at the tactical projection of the young shadow caster, his golden mask reflecting the dim ambient light of the hall.
"Assemble the First Fleet," Malakor ordered softly. "Do not send lower-tier knights. Prepare the divine seals and lock down every maritime exit from the trench. The boy is building a foundation in the deep sea... and we will crush it before it takes root."
