Chapter 447: Ancient Grade Shadow Relic
Far off in the deep expanse of the Iron Shallows, the remnants of the broken Solar Anchors were completely dead, their golden light extinguished forever. The ocean floor belonged to the dark now—and as long as Kyle Conner stood in the depths, the surface world would never claim it back.
The following morning broke not with sunrise, but with the subtle brightening of the sanctuary’s luminescent moss as the oceanic tides shifted.
Kyle was already fully dressed in his dark tunic and trousers, binding his boots tight as Yua sat on the edge of the dais, weaving her dark hair into a tight combat braid. Elara stood near the mirror, strapping her twin aquatic daggers to her thighs with practiced ease.
"Commander Vaelen sent a messenger five minutes ago," Elara said, turning around to face Kyle. "A scouting party caught sight of three surface transport ships hovering near the edge of the Iron Shallows. They aren’t dropping anchors this time, but they’re deploying heavy scouting probes."
"Searching for Vane’s remains," Yua scoffed, tugging her braid tight. "Or trying to confirm if the anchor array can be salvaged."
"They won’t find anything worth salvaging," Kyle said, standing up and sliding his coat over his shoulders. "Vane’s spear disintegrated, and the anchor cores were melted down by my Dark Flames. All that’s left up there is dead metal and slag."
’Snow, keep a passive scan open on my Shadow Energy reserve,’ Kyle thought as he walked toward the stone door. ’If we run into another high-tier vanguard, I want Divergence Flames ready to cast immediately without delay.’
[Acknowledged. Divergence Flames queued at 200 Demon Energy per activation. All systems optimal.]
They stepped out into the main corridor, where Commander Vaelen was waiting with four fully armed abyssal guards. The mer-warrior bowed his head deeply as Kyle approached, his iron trident held vertically at his side.
"Lord Kyle," Vaelen spoke, his voice filled with newfound respect. "Sovereign Seraphina requests your presence at the grand gate before you head out to the upper shelf. She has prepared a gift from the royal armory to aid your next push."
Kyle raised an eyebrow. "A gift?"
"The Sovereign knows you fight using the shadows of the deep," Vaelen explained, turning to guide them down the wide hallway. "Our ancestral forge holds an item crafted during the ancient wars—a piece designed specifically for those who walk between light and dark. She believes it belongs in your hands now."
"Lead the way," Kyle said quietly.
’An ancestral shadow item from the abyssal royal armory?’ Kyle thought, a cold, calculating gleam appearing in his eyes as they walked toward the grand throne room. ’If it scales well with Shadow Craft or increases my baseline Shadow Energy pool, it’s going to make taking down the Spire’s main fleet even easier.’
Beside him, Yua and Elara exchanged a brief, knowing glance. The war for the Iron Shallows was escalating rapidly, but with Kyle’s true skills unlocked and his attributes fully primed, the surface mages had no idea what kind of nightmare was waiting for them in the dark water ahead.
The grand corridor leading to the sanctuary’s lower vault was lined with towering columns of black coral, illuminated only by the deep violet hum of abyssal mana crystals embedded in the stone floor. The water here felt heavier, cold and dense, carrying the ancient weight of centuries-old enchantments designed to repel intruders.
Kyle walked beside Commander Vaelen, his dark coat swaying silently in the undercurrents. His shadow stretched long and crisp against the violet light, creeping forward as if eagerly anticipating what lay ahead inside the royal vault.
’An ancestral shadow item,’ Kyle thought, his fingers resting casually over the hilt of his dormant shadow blade. ’If it’s a high-grade relic from the ancient wars, it could give my Shadow Energy pool a massive baseline boost or increase my efficiency with Shadow Craft.’
Yua walked half a pace behind his left shoulder, her crimson eyes scanning every archway and shadowed pillar with sharp, silent vigilance. "The mana density down here is different," she murmured softly, her voice carrying a low, melodious note in the quiet hallway. "It’s older. Unrefined."
"It is the blood-mana of the deep ocean," Elara explained from Kyle’s right, her light blue scales catching the violet reflection of the floor crystals. "Before the surface mages built their light anchors, the abyss was governed by raw, primordial shadow and deep-sea pressure. The relics stored in this vault were forged before the Clover Council even existed."
Commander Vaelen stopped before a colossal set of double doors forged from solid abyssal iron. The doors were carved with intricate relief patterns depicting leviathans and shadow weavers holding back glowing sky-vessels.
"We are here," Vaelen said, turning to face Kyle. The mer-warrior placed his right palm onto a circular indentation at the center of the iron doors.
A low, resonant pulse of light rippled through the metal as the vault’s warding array verified Vaelen’s bloodline. With a heavy, grinding groan that shook the floor under their boots, the colossal doors slowly receded into the stone walls, opening the way into the royal treasury.
The room inside was vast, constructed like a hollowed-out sea cavern. Floating stone pedestals hovered in mid-air, held suspended by ancient thermal currents. Upon each pedestal rested a weapon, piece of armor, or enchanted orb, each radiating a distinct colored aura—some glowing with ocean-blue mana, others burning with pale green light.
Standing at the center of the chamber on a raised stone platform was Sovereign Seraphina.
She wore her dark royal robes, her trident resting against her side. Floating directly before her was a wooden chest bound in pitch-black iron bands, inscribed with glowing abyssal runes that suppressed the dark energy pulsing inside it.
"Kyle Conner," Seraphina spoke, her rich voice echoing off the cavernous walls. "Step forward."
Kyle stepped onto the platform, stopping three paces from the Sovereign. Yua and Elara remained at the edge of the dais, giving him space while keeping their eyes locked on the glowing chest.
"When you defeated Archmage Vane and shattered the solar anchors, you proved that the surface world’s light has no authority in these depths," Seraphina said, her dark eyes reflecting the room’s ambient glow. "For centuries, this chest has remained sealed in our vault. None of my warriors possessed the shadow affinity required to unseal its lock without being consumed by its corruption."
She waved her hand over the iron bands. The glowing blue suppression runes flickered and died, allowing the iron latches to pop open with a sharp, metallic click.
The lid of the chest slowly lifted.
A surge of ice-cold, ink-black shadow mist spilled over the edges, pouring down the sides of the pedestal like liquid ink. The air temperature inside the room plummeted instantly, turning the surrounding water frigid enough to form tiny ice crystals on the edge of Kyle’s coat.

Inside the chest, resting on a bed of faded black silk, was a silver-and-black vambrace forged from dark liquid metal that constantly shifted and morphed, as if it were alive. At the center of the wrist guard was a deep, faceted obsidian gem that sucked in the surrounding violet light, leaving absolute darkness around its frame.
"The Shadow Stitcher’s Gauntlet," Seraphina revealed, gesturing to the relic. "Forged by the first Abyssal Weaver during the Great Divergence. It responds only to those whose soul core can channel high-tier shadow energy."
Kyle reached into the chest without hesitation. The moment his bare fingers touched the cold liquid metal of the vambrace, the obsidian gem flared with a dark purple pulse!
SWOOSH!
The liquid metal dissolved from the silk bed, creeping up Kyle’s right hand and forearm like a living parasite! It wrapped tightly around his skin, molding itself perfectly to his muscles, seamlessly extending up to his elbow before solidifying into a sleek, pitch-black armguard etched with faint, glowing violet runes.
[Artifact Equipping Successful!]
[Item Name: Shadow Stitcher’s Gauntlet (Ancient Grade)]
[Effect 1: Maximum Shadow Energy pool increased by +500 points (1000 -> 1500).]
[Effect 2: All Shadow Craft creations gain +20% durability and sharpness.]
[Effect 3: Equipping this relic synergy-stacks with Title: Nightshade Stitcher, increasing shadow corruption chance by an additional +10%.]
Kyle flexed his fingers inside the new gauntlet. The dark metal felt weightless, completely integrated with his skin, while a fresh wave of dense shadow energy flooded directly into his mana channels, expanding his total capacity in an instant.
’A 500-point boost to my Shadow Energy capacity,’ Kyle thought, a dark smile playing on his lips as he admired the glowing violet runes lining his forearm. ’That gives me way more room to cast Shadow Bind and Shadow Craft during long engagements without draining my core dry.’
"It accepted you effortlessly," Seraphina noted, a trace of awe in her eyes as she watched the corruption mist settle calmly around Kyle’s arm. "It seems the relic was simply waiting for its true master."
"It fits well," Kyle said, lowering his arm as the dark metal settled into a dormant, polished state. "Thank you, Sovereign."
"Do not thank me yet, Lord Kyle," Seraphina said, her tone growing cold and serious once more. "As we speak, the surface transport ships hovering near the Iron Shallows have begun dropping dark-scouting probes into the upper trenches. They aren’t trying to rebuild the solar grid yet—they are looking for you."
"Let them look," Kyle replied, turning toward the exit where Yua and Elara were waiting. "We’re heading up to the upper shelf now. By the time they realize they found us, it’ll be too late for them to send a signal back to the Spire."
Yua’s eyes gleamed with red anticipation as she stepped beside him. "Shall we give them a proper abyssal welcome, Kyle?"
"Yeah," Kyle said softly, his voice echoing in the cold room. "Let’s go hunt some surface mages."
