Turns Out I'm the Real Monster?!

Chapter 166: Chapter 107: Yuexin’s Night Visit
"Possession?"
Jiang Mu curiously sized up the woman before him, whose entire demeanor had changed.
Nan Zhi smiled and shook her head.
"It’s just a simple little possession trick. It might work on common folk, but it’s useless against a Cultivator of Master Jiang’s Cultivation Level."
"If I’m not mistaken,"
Jiang Mu’s gaze was sharp, "To use this kind of manipulative possession Divine Ability, your true body... can’t be too far from here, can it? Perhaps somewhere nearby?"
Nan Zhi nodded lightly, a hint of provocation in her voice.
"That’s right, I am nearby. Master Jiang, why don’t you send some men to search for me? See if you can find me."
"I’d rather not."
Jiang Mu shrugged, looking thoroughly uninterested.
"Someone who can sneak into the Demon-slaying Bureau’s prison, kill Shen Wanhai, and escape unscathed... Even if a mere Hall Master like me got lucky and found you, I doubt I could keep you here. Why waste the effort?"
"What a shame."
Nan Zhi giggled coquettishly, her eyes glinting. "And here I was thinking that if Master Jiang really had the skill to find me, I would have to reward you handsomely... give you a very special gift."
Jiang Mu sneered.
"I’m guessing that ’gift’ is your body, right? After all, judging by your behavior, you were born to be a brothel whore. Besides that, what else of value could you possibly offer?"
The smile on Nan Zhi’s face froze, and a flash of cold fury crossed her eyes.
She dropped her coquettish act, and her voice turned cold.
"Jiang Mu, today was a warning, and also a test. You need to understand something. The Red Umbrella Sect can raise you to great heights, and we can also drag you down to Hell!
Last time, you killed those two useless subordinates of mine. I don’t blame you; trash deserves to die. But I hope... you won’t disappoint me."
Jiang Mu’s expression was indifferent.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about. I, Jiang Mu, serve the Court. It is my duty to eliminate its troubles and slay Demon Fiends for the people. Who do you think you are, threatening an official of the Court?"
Nan Zhi scoffed, her eyes filled with ridicule.
"You can’t be naive enough to think that the Red Umbrella Sect is relying on a single, tiny Sound Stone to control you, can you?
Jiang Mu, the moment you boarded this ship, you lost any chance of turning back. If our ship sinks, you’re going down with us!"
"Oh? Is that so?"
A playful smile appeared on Jiang Mu’s face. "Then I’d really like to see just how you plan to control me."
Before the words had even faded, a cold light flashed.
Jiang Mu raised his hand and swung, the bright edge of his saber streaking through the air like lightning.
The sneer on Nan Zhi’s face hadn’t even had time to fully morph into shock before the Saber Aura reflecting in her pupils magnified infinitely.
"SCHLICK—"
The blade sliced through the slender, pale neck.
A head separated from its body, flying up into the air.
The headless corpse slowly toppled over, and the pillar of blood that spewed from its neck stained the bed red.
’Damn it. Did she really think I was raised on fear?’
...
「Meanwhile.」
In a side room of a secluded courtyard somewhere.
An alluring woman sitting cross-legged on a couch suddenly snapped her eyes open. Her body shook violently as she instinctively clutched her neck, her face as pale as paper and drenched in cold sweat.
"Damn that brat! You’re courting death!"
Nan Zhi’s beautiful face was frosted with rage, her eyes overflowing with killing intent.
Seeing this, a woman standing in attendance nearby hurried forward. She took out a longan-sized, vermilion-colored Pill from her robes and held it to Nan Zhi’s lips.
Nan Zhi opened her mouth and swallowed the Pill.
After a few moments of regulating her breathing, some color returned to her face.
"Guardian, that Jiang fellow is unwilling to be used by us?" the woman asked in a low voice.
Nan Zhi stood up and walked to the window, her gaze sinister.
"He’s young, hot-headed, arrogant, and looks down on everyone. That guy really is a tough nut to crack."
The attendant furrowed her pretty brows.
"Should we just destroy him? To prevent him from becoming a future disaster."
"Not yet."
Nan Zhi waved her hand. "The brat is exceptionally talented and certainly has value. It would be a waste to destroy him just like that.
Since he doesn’t know his place, doesn’t understand our power, we’ll just have to show him."
She turned around, a cold light glinting in her eyes.
"He is heading to Yan City in two days.
Once he’s there, I’ll send him a few ’big gifts’ and let him see with his own eyes what happens to those who don’t obey!
No matter how tough his bones are, no matter how wild his temperament, in the end, he’s only human.
And humans feel fear. They get scared. Once he’s afraid, once he knows pain, he’ll naturally learn to behave and obey."
...
Without a glance at the corpse on the floor, Jiang Mu calmly walked out of the room.
Zhang Daxie was standing guard outside the courtyard gate.
Jiang Mu walked up to him and said flatly,
"That woman was infected by a Demon Fiend and became a Demon. She has been executed. Go dispose of the body, then head to the Government Office to close the case."
Zhang Daxie’s eyelid twitched. He cupped his fist respectfully. "Yes, this subordinate understands."
Jiang Mu flicked the beads of blood off his blade, then casually grabbed a tattered piece of clothing hanging to dry in the courtyard and wiped the blade clean.
Sheathing his saber, he looked at Zhang Daxie. "Do you hate me?"
Zhang Daxie started, shaking his head frantically.
"No! This subordinate would never! It’s just... I just feel it would have been better for this subordinate to do it."
Jiang Mu clapped him on the shoulder.
"If I’d had you kill her, given your personality, you probably would have been depressed and blaming yourself for a good while.
We’re about to leave for a mission in Yan City. The last thing we need is an unsettled mind or emotional turmoil. It was best for me to handle something that could affect your state of mind."
Jiang Mu patted his shoulder again, his tone softening slightly.
"There are plenty of fish in the sea. There are many good women out there. Take your time, and you’ll eventually find one who truly cares for you."
With that, Jiang Mu turned and walked away.
