Chapter 251: Chapter 210: There’s a Bad Guy in the Crowd

The driver’s tone was astonished, and then, as if sharing a common enemy, he joined Sun Fan in a stern condemnation.

"This is unheard of!"

"Absolutely audacious!"

"Completely insane!"

Hearing this, Sun Fan’s gaze toward the middle-aged man became quite cordial. Though the wind was bone-chilling, his heart felt warm, much like his freshly soaked crotch.

"Brother, you’re a good man!"

Sun Fan exclaimed from the bottom of his heart.

"You know it!"

The driver grinned.

And so, the two chatted as they drove.

At first, Sun Fan didn’t feel like anything was wrong. But as the surroundings grew more desolate and remote, he suddenly realized something was amiss.

The police station he had just picked was located in Beichun’s most prosperous district, only five or six kilometers from the Beichun Junlan Hotel. The GPS showed the drive should have taken fifteen minutes at most.

But they had been driving for nearly half an hour now, and the surroundings showed no signs of prosperity. It was clearly the outskirts of the city.

The moment Sun Fan realized something was wrong, he was scared out of his wits.

Ma Wa!

There was a traitor among the people!

This old geezer looked simple and honest, but his heart was clearly black as pitch!

"Young man, what’s wrong?"

"Are you just not the smiling type?"

The driver grinned at Sun Fan again. To Sun Fan’s eyes, that grin looked like the man-eating maw of a ferocious beast.

"Sir..."

"This... this doesn’t seem to be the right way, does it?"

Sun Fan forced a smile that was uglier than tears.

This time, the driver didn’t bother responding to Sun Fan.

In the wordless silence, Sun Fan truly felt like he was suffocating.

"We’re here."

A few minutes later, the taxi stopped in front of a detached villa.

As the driver’s voice fell, the passenger-side door was yanked open from the outside.

"Mr. Sun, our Brother Nan would like to see you."

The man said "would like to see you," but his actions were anything but polite. Seeing Sun Fan cowering motionlessly in the car, he reached in and simply hauled him out.

The wind was freezing, but not as freezing as Sun Fan’s heart.

It was truly turning to ice!

Looking around, he saw at least ten people standing before him.

The man in the lead was bald, and you could faintly see a colorful tattoo creeping up from his back onto his neck. As for the group behind him, every single one of them looked like trouble; no matter how you looked at them, they didn’t seem like good people.

"Wh-what are you going to do?"

Sun Fan shivered, his eyes filled with terror.

"Mr. Sun, don’t be afraid."

"I’m a civilized man. I’m not going to do anything to you."

The bald leader explained in a gentle voice, "We’ve invited you here simply because our Brother Nan wants to treat you to a meal."

"I don’t know any Brother Nan."

Sun Fan replied, trembling, "I’m not hungry right now. Can I... not eat this meal?"

SLAP!

The moment Sun Fan finished speaking, one of the bald man’s underlings stepped forward without the slightest hesitation and delivered a huge slap across his face.

It was powerful and heavy, the sound crisp and clear.

"Hey!"

"You said you were a civilized man!"

"That you wouldn’t do anything to me!"

Sun Fan clutched his face, his voice full of grievance.

"Did I hit you just now?"

"It wasn’t me who hit you, was it?"

The bald man’s face was perfectly serious. "So, I wasn’t lying. I am indeed a civilized man, but I never said they were civilized, too!"

Hearing this, Sun Fan was utterly gobsmacked.

’Motherfucker!’

’I may be a paparazzi, but you can’t actually treat me like a dog!’

In a fit of rage, Sun Fan...

got angry for a moment!

"Now then."

"You have two choices."

The bald man asked with a grin, "Either you get invited in civilly by me, or you get invited in uncivilly by them. Which do you choose?"

"Brother, I’ll go in with you."

’I have to go in anyway, so why get beaten again?’

"Then let’s go."

The bald man slung an arm around Sun Fan’s shoulder and led him toward the villa.

The snowy night was pitch black; only the villa was illuminated.

Soon, Sun Fan was brought before a dining table.

At the head of the table sat Chu Zhengnan. Built like a bull and resembling a besuited thug from a movie, he held a knife in his right hand and a fork in his left. Before him lay a tomahawk steak that had to weigh a full kilogram.

As his knife cut into the steak, juices mixed with blood trickled out. Chu Zhengnan then stuffed a large, medium-rare piece of beef into his mouth and chewed heartily.

"Young man, was it really such a big deal that you had to go to the cops?"

Chu Zhengnan glanced up at Sun Fan before returning his focus to the tomahawk steak. "Tally up the cost of your DSLR camera and the photos. I’ll compensate you."

"Brother Nan..."

"A misunderstanding. It’s all a misunderstanding."

Hearing Chu Zhengnan state the reason so plainly, Sun Fan knew why he had been "invited" here. "I wasn’t thinking straight just now. Please give me another chance. I’ll leave first thing in the morning and never cause trouble again."

"We’re all civilized people, all legitimate, law-abiding businessmen."

Chu Zhengnan didn’t even look up as he said flatly, "How could we do something like seizing your property by force?"

Hearing this, Sun Fan instantly broke out in a cold sweat.

Evidently, every single word he had said in the taxi had been heard by the man before him.

"A misunderstanding!"

"It’s truly a misunderstanding!"

Watching Chu Zhengnan devour the bloody beef, Sun Fan’s throat and cheeks couldn’t help but twitch. "I..."

"How much is it?"

"My patience is limited. I don’t want to say it a third time."

Suddenly, Chu Zhengnan’s knife paused. He looked up at Sun Fan again, an indescribable ferocity flashing in his eyes, causing the scar by the corner of his eye to twitch.

"The DSLR camera costs forty... forty-five thousand in total. The photos are all ones I secretly took of Tian Xiqwei. I... I daren’t ask for money."

After stammering this out, a sliver of hope unexpectedly rose in Sun Fan’s heart.

’Is he really going to pay me back?’

’Maybe they’re scared because I was going to the police!’

’It’s all a bluff!’

’Just a show of force!’

At this thought, Sun Fan’s legs, which had been about to turn to noodles, regained some of their strength. Even the fear in his eyes subsided a little.

"Forty-five thousand?"

"Let’s just call it fifty thousand."

Chu Zhengnan rounded up directly. He then gestured to the bald man behind Sun Fan. "Why haven’t you invited Mr. Sun to sit down? And hurry up and serve him. Don’t you know how to treat a guest?"

"Yes, yes, yes."

The bald man, who was like a smiling tiger in front of Sun Fan, was no different from a docile kitten in front of Chu Zhengnan.

"Mr. Sun, please, have a seat..."

The bald man pulled out the chair directly opposite Chu Zhengnan, and after seating Sun Fan, he immediately ordered the underlings behind him, "Serve the food now."

Soon, everyone sprang into action.

Platter after platter of fresh seafood was brought out. There were three whole king crabs alone, all of which seemed to have been freshly steamed and were still letting off heat.

Seeing this scene, Sun Fan was completely dumbfounded.

’They’re really treating me to a meal?’

’After being dragged around half the night and scared out of my wits a few times...’

Sun Fan actually was a little hungry now. More importantly, all this fresh seafood before him was stuff he could never afford to buy or eat.

Take the king crab, for example. A single live one would cost over two thousand, something he could never afford.

"Is this... really for me to eat?"

Sun Fan looked at Chu Zhengnan, who was still focused on his tomahawk steak and showed no sign of paying him any attention. He had no choice but to turn to the bald man.

"Of course."

The bald man gave Sun Fan a reassuring look.

’They must be scared...’

’They’re trying to butter me up!’

’Once I get out of here, once I find a cop tomorrow, just you watch! I’ll destroy you bastards who prey on the weak and fear the strong!’

’Especially that young punk who was acting all high and mighty in front of Tian Xiqwei! Tomorrow I’ll make you fucking kneel and beg me for forgiveness!’

With these thoughts in mind, Sun Fan picked up a king crab leg with his right hand and brought it to his mouth.

However, just as he stuffed the crab leg into his mouth and tasted its exquisitely fresh sweetness, he felt a sudden weight on his shoulder. The bald man leaned in close and smiled right in his face.

"Seriously?"

"We told you to eat, and you’re actually eating?"
