Chapter 137: Chapter 139: The Seventh Beastman

Seeing the stunned look on Bai Meng’s face, Su Nuannuan’s lips curved into a smirk.

’She knew it. With the way Su Luoluo looks, very few men would be interested in her.’

’So what if she lost weight? Her features are still flat and plain.’

’It’s just those six men. For some reason, they were completely bewitched by Su Luoluo and now flock around her one after another.’

The other females in the tribe watched the scene unfold, their gazes toward Su Luoluo filled with a hint of sympathy.

It was obvious from his reaction that he was showing his disdain for her.

But this sympathy lasted only a moment. The next instant, their eyes swept over Xiao Ye, Fu Feng, Mo Xuan, Nantu, and Xi Yi. Seeing the five of them smiling at Su Luoluo, their handsome faces full of affection, the females instantly felt they were overthinking things.

No matter how much disdain she received, she still had six handsome beastman mates who were utterly devoted to her.

What did they have?

They were really worrying for nothing.

Fu Feng, Xiao Ye, and Mo Xuan hadn’t expected Su Luoluo to reject Bai Meng so directly, even telling him that her current mates were enough.

They had thought Su Luoluo would accept Bai Meng and make him her seventh beastman mate.

After all, judging by her previous forwardness in the bedroom, Su Luoluo was not exactly a conservative female.

But hearing her say this now made them happy. She was genuinely considering their feelings. They couldn’t help but glance at Su Luoluo, their gazes growing softer and more focused.

Su Zhao, seeing his good friend’s crestfallen state, couldn’t have been happier.

’Finally, my friend is back to normal.’

’I knew it. How could my friend possibly fall for someone who looks like Su Luoluo?’

Seeing Bai Meng’s downcast expression, Su Zhao said to Su Yang, "I’m going to have a word with Bai Meng. I’ll be back later."

Su Yang nodded. "Go on and have a good talk with him. It’s fine if you come back a little later."

The fact that the tribe could purify salt was a secret safest kept among their own people.

With Bai Meng suddenly showing up, Su Yang had been worried he might find out.

Now, Su Zhao’s interruption had inadvertently helped him keep the secret.

Su Zhao offering to go with Bai Meng was exactly what he wanted. He wished the two of them would go somewhere far away and stay there for a good long while.

’What was that Su Luoluo just said?’

’The vomiting and diarrhea... was it because there was a problem with the salt?’

At this thought, his brow furrowed. He had to ask Su Luoluo to clarify this.

After Su Zhao led Bai Meng out of the tribe’s main area, he waited a moment before waving Su Luoluo over. "Luoluo, come here. There’s something I want to ask you."

At his words, Su Luoluo walked over.

Though Su Yang was just recovering from his illness, his gaze was still sharp. He looked at Su Luoluo and asked, "You just said there was something unusual in the salt. What did you mean by that? Was there a problem with the salt we purified last time?"

Su Luoluo nodded. "I examined the salt from the last purification, and there were a lot of yellow granules in it."

As she spoke, she showed Su Yang the salt she had brought from the outdoor kitchen. "Father, look. The salt I purify is pure white, but the salt the tribe is eating now has yellow granules."

Su Yang took the salt wrapped in beast skin from Su Luoluo. He dabbed a little onto his palm and rubbed it between his fingers. Seeing how white and clear it was, he immediately went back to his dwelling and brought out the salt they had been eating recently.

Under the light of a torch, the two salts were indeed different.

The salt he had brought was nowhere near as fine as the salt Su Luoluo had.

"What’s going on here? Could it have been caused by an error during the last purification?"

’In the Post-apocalypse, these yellow granules would be identified as barium chloride.’

’If salt isn’t purified properly, the levels of barium chloride can indeed be too high. When consumed, it causes weakness, diarrhea, and uncontrollable salivation.’

’But that should only happen with improperly processed salt.’

’And when I was leading the tribe in purifying the salt, we clearly followed every single step. This shouldn’t have happened.’

’The only explanation is that someone tampered with it.’

Su Luoluo shook her head. "I supervised the entire salt purification process and confirmed every step. Something like this shouldn’t have happened."

"Then what are you suggesting?"

"I suspect someone deliberately added brine back into it, which caused the final purified salt to be contaminated."

In fact, Su Luoluo already had someone in mind.

But she felt that if she said it outright, Su Yang wouldn’t believe her.

"Brine? What’s that?"

"It’s the water that’s poured off during the first stage of washing the salt."

According to her instructions, that water was supposed to be filtered again through coarse sand, fine sand, and charcoal before being placed in the clay pots to boil down and crystallize.

But she suspected someone had added the waste brine back into the salt after it had dried.

She was also puzzled as to how the person had managed it.

To prevent any troublemaking, she had even placed a dedicated supervisor in each group to watch over the process.

To succeed under such strict supervision, and for it to only be discovered after everyone was poisoned... the culprit’s methods were truly impressive.

"Impossible," Su Yang immediately refuted after hearing her out. "Why would someone from the tribe deliberately pour wastewater back in? It’s salt that everyone has to eat."

"I’ve led this tribe for many years. I know the character of our beastmen and females inside and out. They would never do something that harms others and themselves."

"If you’re saying they made a mistake and mixed the brine in by accident, I’d find that more plausible. This was their first time purifying salt, so it’s not impossible for such an accident to occur."

Just as she’d expected, Su Yang didn’t really believe someone had tampered with the salt.

"If you don’t believe me, Father, I have a way to flush this person out."

"Are you sure it was added intentionally, not caused by an error during the purification process?" Su Yang was still hesitant, not quite believing what Su Luoluo was saying.

Su Luoluo nodded. "I’m sure. To prevent mistakes during the process, I specifically divided everyone into small groups, with a supervisor watching each one. If you don’t believe me, Father, you can call over the beastmen and females who acted as supervisors, and we can verify with each of them."

"However..." Su Luoluo trailed off, pausing for a moment.

Seeing her stop mid-sentence, Su Yang frowned at her. "However what?"

"However, that would alert the culprit. The person who deliberately added the brine would know we’re looking for them, and they might hide themselves even better."

As the leader of the tribe, Su Yang had handled all sorts of matters, big and small. He knew in his heart that what Su Luoluo said made sense.

He mulled it over for a moment before finally agreeing. "Then we’ll do it your way. What is this plan of yours?"

Su Luoluo glanced from side to side, then leaned in and whispered a few words in Su Yang’s ear.
